Ouffer screwing me via book-by date

My girlfriend's mother suggested we buy some dinner vouchers from them (3x) despite my dislike of Ouffer. I stupidly went ahead.

The 3 vouchers are for 2 people each. The deal said must book by 2 August. My girlfriend called them numerous times to try and book without success, even 5 times on the 2 Aug. I got through on the 4 Aug. They said they could not accommodate me. I demanded they do, they said they would call me back and never did.

I approached Ouffer asking for a refund and they have so far refused. They've gone so far as to insinuate they I must be lying when I say I couldn't get through to the merchant because they apparently have not had any other complaints. I know for a fact that my GF called them several times without success. What is the protocol here? Surely they are obliged to refund, since no service has been provided. I have made more than reasonable attempts to use the voucher within the conditions.

  • What was the restaurant and link to deal?

  • it is not surprising as i assume ouffer get to keep all the money you paid to them if vouchers are not redeemed.

  • His latest reply:

"Offer expires on 16 August 2014 (bookings must be made by 2 August 2014)
Calling them on 2nd August, is too late. Bookings needed to be made by 2nd August. At no stage did I say that you are lying – but unfortunately – the balance of probabilities certainly does not fall in your favour here."

What a nerve. By 2nd August most definitely would INCLUDE 2nd August. Can't believe this guy. Getting on to the phone to talk to NSW Fair Trading.

I agree.. by 2nd of August to any reasonably person INCLUDES 2 August. Can you do a CC charge back?

      • +1

        +1.
"Before 2nd August" would be a clearer description.

  • Probably as mentioned in all group buy complaint threads, book early! Even for full price buyers, booking at the last minute doesn't guarantee you a table if the restaurants busy.

If you cant get hold of them on the phone, visit them in person, with other customers around, they're less likely going to ignore you.

  • I eventually got the restauarnt to squeeze in a booking. Not before I received a final reply from Ouffer with the below infuriating snippet. He is referring to the whole "book by 2nd August" argument:

"I don’t mean to cause offense here, but I can tell from your emails that you are an intelligent person, and yet – the argument you have attempted to use here is bizarre, and we will not be debating further with you on such a ridiculous claim."

  • As others have said YOU MUST RESEARCH ANY RESTAURANT/CAFE OFFER BEFORE PURCHASE.

Here are my favorite eleven reviews of this restaurant.

"The worst Japanese restaurant we've ever been. Pictures displayed may look good but it's terrible. Japanese food is all about the freshness quality it serves and this place certainly doesn't have fresh food. Salmon sashimi was so old that it has tasted funny & even when it's cooked it tasted funny. A lot of the 'fresh' handmade sushi was not fresh and all pre-prepared even if we were only the second table on for the night. Was better off to order deep fried food - hope for the best! We were lucky we didn't get sick that night"

"Had a voucher for this restaurant staff were not interested to take the booking. Would not buy a voucher from Our Deals again. Wouldn't return emails to find out the problem with this restaurant. Lost the meal and the money. "

"Despite the excellent, almost too good to be true reviews below, I unfortunately had a terrible night with my partner here.
THe food portions were measly and small, the staff were extremely disinterested and inattentive when we tried to order more food. Also, the place looked quite dirty. "

"Don't buy a coupon from this restaurant they do not honour the coupon what a unbelievably bad customer service "

    "You will regret coming here!!!!
The mediocre food was not worth putting up with one of the worst service staff that I have ever dealt with. These people are blatantly after your money and nothing else. I called to make a reservation with my Scoopon and they told me there were completely booked out. Ten minutes later I tried booking with no voucher and they suddenly had a lot of availabilities. When we got to the place, they treated us really poorly and service was slow in general. Not just that, my friend also tried booking and they told her to come on the date when the vouher was expired and it would still be valid. Though it was naive of her to trust an establishment such as this, when she got there they did not accept her coupon. She was willing to recive the normal charges but they did not even allow of credit to be transferred from the voucher. So come here if you want to be lied to. "

"this is the worst customer service. we bought a scoopon and the person did not fulfill this coupon even though we have paid in full price. have wasted 52dollars and ruined a birthday party. DO NOT COME TO THUS RESTURANT OR BUY A COUPON TO THIS PLACE . REPEAT DO NOT COME "

"My friend and I went there for an all you can eat sushi buffet dinner on a Scoopon deal. We both agreed that the only tasty dish on the menu was the edamame because it only requires boiling. The texture of the sushi rice was hard as a rock. The coating on the gyoza, spring rolls, karaage chicken and prawn were way too dark, hard and overdone. While the service was okay, the food leaves a lot to be desired. I suggest that you save your money and spend it on KFC instead."

"My friends and I went to eat here as part of the Scoopon deal and found the experience to be quite disappointing. We were told we'd only be able to be seated for an hour as they were fully booked out later on, though when we were forced to leave the place was less than half full. The service was poor as we were often ignored when trying to order and were brought out the wrong orders. The food was alright but was not worth the trek. "

"Just got home from Marrickville. I took a friend for his birthday as part of the Scoopon deal I purchased a few weeks ago. I called up on last Wednesday night to make a booking for 7:30pm tonight (Monday night). The gentlemen took down my name, phone number and confirmed the booking after I gave him the Scoopon barcode number. We drove from Liverpool only to find that it was closed. We asked a Chinese restaurant next door if they knew what the situation was and they told us "they are on holidays for 2 weeks". Firstly why did the man take our details down over the phone instead of telling us that they are closed. Secondly, why not call everyone who had made bookings in those 2 weeks that they had to go. Extremely frustrated. "

"Beware Please: I bought my voucher through scoopon.com.au and I've tried to call up to make a weekend booking ever since I bought my voucher and the girl who answered the calls said herself as a manager would not allow me to make any weekends booking..her answers straight away without even look at her appointment booklet and she would just say"sorry all booked out and yea sorry booked out too",so I hung up & called again this time I said I have NO voucher then she said "yes what time do u like for Saturday " wtf..this restaurant is bloody scamming people money to those who buys voucher online "

"Absolutely terrible, worst people ever, do not go."

Being from Melbourne I have found the ouffer vouchers to be that much better than scoopon or groupon in terms of restaurant quality. Pricing is similar but the overall satisfaction is much, much better with ouffers choice of venues. You also have to do the preliminary homework and research using urbanspoon and tripadviser to discern whats out there.

    • Joined up today and posted today, stating that Ouffer is better than anyone else. Hmmm questionable much?
