CSHIP4FREE

Been looking for some Bluetooth speakers for my daughter's room. These apparently retail for $200. There are other listings on eBay for $179 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blaupunkt-Milan-Bluetooth-Speaker…

http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/national-deal/Blaupunkt-Blue…

http://www.blaupunkt-australia.com.au/product/bluetooth-spea…

reviews are a bit sparse, but what I could find looked good. It's a decent brand so that's a plus too.

good price with free shipping… 'Sounds' like a good deal!

Hope it helps someone :)

RRP of this speaker is a joke.

Most RRPs are a joke… Just quoting it

  • +3

This rechargeable one was much better for only $10 more, however it is sold out: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blaupunkt-Voss-Rechargeable-Bluet…

    • +1

That is for the Monaco model which is portable!
This is the Milan which has AC/DC adapter
So probably the same everything else!

Got one of these, I actually turned it into a Squeezebox client by mounting a Model A Raspberry Pi inside, works a treat.

Sound quality is what you'd expect, nothing spectacular, plenty of volume though.

    • Sounds interesting idea, was it difficult to do? Do you have a DIY instructions link maybe?

      • +7

Very easy to do, if you're OK with some cables making their way out of the netting. I did no physical mods to the actual speaker circuitry at all.

I use a Model A with a DWA-131 Nano WiFi adapter, powered by the USB port on the back of the speaker. I run the latest version of piCorePlayer with a 3.5mm "Aux" cable to connect to the Aux port on the back.

If I want to use it as a BT speaker, I just unplug the Aux cable and it returns to its factory self.

Nice, thanks for the detailed info.

    • Epic idea. Thanks!

Bought one to do precisely this.

    • +1

I am interested in this, however have no idea what Squeezebox is. Could you please explain it to me ?

      Kind Regards

      Slippy

"Kind Regards" - big ups there, Slippy. Excellent use of pleasantries to your fellow tight-arses.. Beautiful.

  • i have non bluetooth one just standard docking iphone speaker, quite big.now i have android maybe i can connect via cable but any other idea what i can use for?

    • +9

paperweight, boat anchor, kitchen step, the list is endless

      • Well…. no, this is actually a good question.

You could turn it into a BT speaker by way of using something like this http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/bluetooth-30-pin-audio-dock-adap….

        • +2

I've got a bluetooth adapter very similar to the kogan model, but bought mine off ebay and case is black. Same style case though, cost about $10 delivered from HK I think. Its powered by the speaker so your speaker dock must support charging of a device via its port. Note that some devices are incompatible for some reason if if they support device charging, my Panasonic CD/iPod Dock doesn't work with it for instance but my Logitech dock and cheapo bedside clock radio/dock both work ok.

        • @Gravy: how good are they? i got the same off ebay, and the shipping was so late that i complained, they sent another and now i have 2 for the price of one :)

I driver a SV6 MY09.5 which has bluetooth for calls but not for music. To get around that, i installed a iPod cable to the rear AUX of the head unit, and plugged the bluetooth dongle onto it….now i have bluetooth for calls AND music.

I know this post is about the speaker, but lol…this dongle is a great idea and affordable

          @andrew exclmtns:
I did the same with my previous car, a ten year old Mazda 6 that had no bluetooth support (or ipod connectivity originally). Plugged in a similar cable/box to what you likely used (I think mine was Xlink or something and used an external CD stacker port) and then plugged the bluetooth adapter into that. Was $10 well spent.

How is the bass on this? I've got a Bose clock ATM I've borrowed, so wondering how it compares…

    • I've got the Bluetooth sound link mini and it's awesome. Hopefully when this arrives it's something similar. Fingers crossed.

      • soundlink mini is amazing haha. It has so much balls for such a small thing.

        • +1

          That's what she said!

        • @ilikeit: lol well played. i walked myself into that one

  • Want to have a portable one for camping or outdoor BBQ. This one will not work for me.

  • 10W doesn't seem like much (although I don't understand Watt's- ie my current system is 650W but isn't 65x louder/better…). In simple terms can anyone explain?

    • everything else being equal double the power will only increase your sound by 3dB

usually rating of speaker with wattage is the maximum power that it can handel so too many variables.

loundness also depends to the range of frequency the speaker produces

      someone can probably explain better.

and this may help your answer 10dB will double the loudness(i may be wrong here)

      • Ok thanks- that helps.

I remember being told, but it seems incorrect, that higher Watt's means it will sound better (ie more full) at lower volume's. That's not correct?

        • No, that's not correct..
The fullness of sound depends on the capability of the speakers.
Wattage is a poor guide (but a nice, big sounding number to put on a box) for maximum volume and nothing more.

I have the Blaupunkt Oslo (Airplay version) in our kitchen and it's perfectly fine for casual listening. That was $89 on sale from COTD at the time. For this price, the bluetooth version sounds like an even better deal.

Hey guys, please check your Paypal amount deducted. Mine was $50.32 EVEN I received an receipt saying $39.95. Doggy Paypal????

    • +1

Check the detail info, it'll say "charge credit card xx amount, voucher xx amount."

    • Same here, what's going on?

    • +5

      Fixed that for you:
Hey Carfeimao, please check your paypal amount deducted. Your's was $50.32 EVEN YOU received an receipt saying $39.95.

The code gives you a credit for the shipping amount. It doesn't remove that from the bill. I think you'll find you've actually been charged $39.95 if you've done it correctly.

      Doggy Paypal???

i'm not going to stop you, let me know how you get on.

    • Did you use the voucher code?

      • Yes I did, the amount shown before check out was $39.95. Receipt shows $39.95. But I got a msg from Paypal on my phone is $50.32 and I verified it when I log on Paypal and it does show $50.32.

        • Hi, mine shows the same. If you look at the transaction in Paypal - you can see 2 funding sources, and one shows the Free Shipping voucher details - so the full amount is sent to Catch of the Day, but you won't have paid the full amount.

  • The one with the rechargeable battery for $10 more would have been a good deal. This doesn't seem very good value to me.

    • -1

      Which one is that, link?

  • +1

Good base and loud sound , however it sounds rough and not as smooth - quality like more expensive ones eg. Bose

    • Compared to Bose Soundlink iii/mini?

      • bose mini is good quality, quiet loud too, but no strong deep base, just light base, while blaupunkt has got the base. I just found it less quality compared to blaupunkt car sound system quality in the 80-90s eg. in Mercedes Benz and aftermarket.

  • Thanks for posting bought one, and looking forward to its arrival. Can think of a bunch of uses for it already :)

    • No worries mate

  • So COTD contacted me on through ebay to say they couldn't fulfill my order because they're sold out… perhaps I shouldn't have shared on OzB… Oh well.

    • I take it back. I regret nothing.

  • received mine… not a bad unit for the price.

    • Received mine too. Bought it for the missus, who's lately been playing Red Hot Chili Peppers to Duran Duran to David Guetta on either her tinny samsung phone or the tinny Altec laptop speakers.

Testing out the unit now, RHCP or George Michael sounds clear and good including the bass notes, but anything electronic like David Guetta or Tiesto lacks the bass depth (as is expected). It can get quite loud if volume is pumped up. Good for casual listening, and the missus' needs.

Compared to my buddy's Bose Soundlink Mini, it doesn't compare. That unit has all round clarity, and a punchier bass (but not a booming bass) at less than half the size and portability (and at $300+). I think for $40 this Blaupunkt gives a good wholesome sound. Works for me.

Update 1: Voice narration of podcasts and youtube adverts is pretty clear and fills the room on this. Just that if there's music then the frequencies tend to get a bit muddled. If only there was some sort of tone adjustment on the amp inside this thing. Maybe I'll snap up the JBL for $29.99 below - I've had good experiences with JBL computer speakers before (It's not portable, no deal).

  • I've missed out on this. Can anyone suggest a comparable solution?

  • It's back in Stock now!-But I'm not sure if the free shipping applies…
