    Home theatre dream unlocked.

  • +3

I bought the 3010 from the last deal, they are excellent and an absolute steal at this price.

  • +4

They have been this price for a month or so now.

  • +2

I believe the 3000i range is being discontinued. i read about it on some AV forum. I have been trying to get a black floor stand for about 4 months.

  • I am thinking about getting the floor standing and a wiiM of some sort.
I am entirely new to the hiFi world (currently on powered speakers) - any advice on speaker wires?

    • What are your planning on using the speakers for? Music or home theatre?

      • Just music

        • I only know about home theatre. But for home theatre the enthusiasts recommend 12 awg speaker wire. The brand and how it connects to the speaker don't matter.

      • Gumtree is your friend… Have fun

    • +2

I use Amazon Basics 16-Gauge, works a treat.

      • thank you!

        • +2

If you plan to run the speaker wires alongside a whole bunch of other cables, the 12AWG version might be better — better shielding etc.

Don't forget to get banana plugs, these should be good enough.

          And a wire stripper.

    • +1

No recommendation on wire (think they're all pretty interchangeable) but just to add I recently bought the 3030i and a Wiim amp and it's a good combo.

      • Which wiim amp?

        • Sorry slow response. I just got the basic Wiim Amp. Couldn't see any real advantages in going for a more expensive model. Seems to have plenty of power for the 3030i

      • Going down a rabbit hole with wiim. Considering wiim pro plus + fosia za3, or if I just make life easier and go with the wiim amp!

        • Look yeah, personally the aesthetic simplicity of the Wiim amp was a big winner. And nice to not have to switch anything on - just open the app or use the voice control mic and away we go

    • As long as it is 100% OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) any wire will do. It also depends how much watts the speakers will pull, ideally the higher watts the thicker AWG you should go but typically I just get 12 AWG to future proof the setup.

    • +3

Cheapest place ive found for decent speaker wire is bunnings funnily enough

    • I've got a barely used set of the floor standers in mint condition for sale if you are interested. Am in Newcastle area so within driving distance.

They are great for music and movies I just don't have room for them in my house.

  • any recommendations for a good amp? thanks all

    • Budget? What sort of media will you be using it with?

      • budget under 1K and will be using it in living room for music and movie. my living room size is about 10x6 m.

        thank you

        • Will you be doing a 5.1 home theatre or 5.1.2 and etc … ( The .2 is height channel)

Is the whole room being used for the home theatre? Or just part?

          • @Pidgeon: i am not too sure. i think these 2 speakers and an amp would be suffice. I dont think i need to have 5.1 system.

    • Fosi Audio ZA3 is getting really good reviews and currently on special at Amazon!

      • Wow that is very cheap? why I am looking at a 1K above amp at the moment. does it really make a difference?

        • Depends what sort of speakers you are driving. And how many speakers you want to drive. For a stereo set up, this will drive any of those speakers really well. Except for maybe the 3050i.

          • +1

@ifreddo: yes, I am thinking to get the 3050i. any other recommendations? thanks mate

            • +2

@phaol7ta: There's heaps of options. What you want to look for is an amp that matches the impedance/ohms of the speakers and provides about 1.5 or 2 X the RMS (power) of the speakers you're driving. You've got a good budget, so you can get something decent.

So a quick search on the 3050i shows:

The Q Acoustics 3050i floor‑standing speakers have the following key specs for amp matching:

              • Impedance: 6 ohms
              • Recommended power range (RMS): 50 – 165 watts per channel
              • Sensitivity: 91 dB (1 W @ 1 m)
              • Frequency response: 44 Hz – 30 kHz

For best performance and headroom, look for an amplifier that can deliver 75 – 200 W per channel into 6 ohms. This will comfortably cover the recommended range while giving you clean peaks without clipping.

  • Any recommendations for connecting these to a PC? Would probably want subwoofer compatibility too. (Primary focus being low latency for connection to an Audio Interface for Guitar Amp sims/Neural Amp Modeler, listening to music and YouTube.)

    Thanks!

    • What kind of interface and subwoofer (if you already have one) do you have?

The easiest thing would to go integrated -> amp -> speakers

You could get an amp like this

Subwoofer integration potentially complicates things, but it depends on your sub

      • For PC? No, I'd recommend having a DAC AMP all in one device USB from PC -> DAC AMP -> Speakers.

        • +1

The guy already has an audio interface. Seems unnecessary to buy a DAC.

          • @beltdrive: That's fair actually, that might have to be the play if he wants to hook up his speakers to his audio interface to the rest of the audio chain.

          • @beltdrive: Yeah, I have a UA Volt 2, which has a left and right output - but I don't believe they're powered? And it looks like these speakers require 2 inputs each?

I assumed that meant I need to go from the Volt > Amp > Speakers?

  • Eugh. Spent the last 10 years looking for some used Jamo c607's…. But the 3050i is tempting me to stop my search…

    • +4

ten years is a long time lol. please stop searching and buy something. there's also been a lot of good new speakers released in the last decade

      • +1

There is a very specific sound signature im trying to get, and I used to sell the C607 - just wasnt in a financial spot to get them even with staff discount a decade ago.

I keep my ear out for competitors, but not much has the same signature.

I'm getting flexible after… 13 years, to be specific, haha.

    • I bought the 3050i pre-2020 for 1200ish and could not be happier with them.
      Highly recommended

      • Are you using them as mains for ht or for stereo music listening?
Most forums claim the 3050i are better suited to ht…

        • They are used for both. Prob 80% music, 20% HT.
I've found they've been deep enough to not require a sub. They're about 30cm away from the wall, no port plug.

    • I have the newer version of those, C97 (not MK II), which I am not terribly attached to and would be happy to sell or trade.

They do have a few scuffs and whatnot, but not too bad.

Also looking at getting rid of my Jamo C803 bookshelf speakers as they are too big for my desk.

  • Does anyone have any idea what these are like in comparison to lower model klipsch floor standers? I ask because I have the klipsch kd52f and I'd love something better

  • Is this better than my stock Yamaha 5.1 speakers?

    • 5.1 x better. But only if you get the ones they don't have in stock.

    • not much info to go off. but probably yes. better to compare 5.1 to 5.1 or stereo to stereo across different brands.

    • the standard NSP50 package with NS50f floor standing.

      • I certainly think so. I replaced my NS50F package recently with Encel Gelati 2.1 setup. I found it to be a significant upgrade. I imagine the Q accoustics 3020i upwards to be a similar upgrade. Shame they weren't on discount when upgraded.

  • +1

If you want a stereo with nice cinematic experience, I highly recommend a pair of 3050i - very punchy without needing subwoofer. $799 is a bargain

  • Again being hopeless with audio, would a WiiM amp be able to power these? "WiiM Amp delivers a continuous power of 60W per channel at an 8 ohms load, or 120W per channel at 4 ohms load, with both channels driven."

  • I dont have a house (yet). But I picked up the Q3050i and QB12 sub :D

    • +1

Absolutely awesome combo. Your neighbours might hate you.

  • Need to ignore all Ozbargain audio recommendations after I bought Edifier speakers and they are absolute trash.

    • Some of them are good, but you need to manage expectations of how much sound you can get out of a small cheap speaker. I replaced a set of kef r300 speakers with q Acoustics 3030i and the q sound better in that particular location thank the kef did. There's lots of factors

  • I picked up a pair of 3020i a few weeks ago.
Using them on my desk as pc speakers - with an Apple usb-c dac, Fosi v3.
    They sound really lovely.

    • Do you reckon the 3020is are good enough to be the sole speakers for a hifi setup in a small room?

Moved to a smaller place and trying to downsize from an enormous set of vintage floor onkyos (that are looking a bit worse for wear tbf) but I’m scared of losing the sound and I don’t want to have to get a sub as well.

      • +1

Depends on your expectations and what you listen to.

Honestly - I'm still on the fence around whether I'll add a sub or not. The low end doesn't exactly boom, but it's fairly well behaved at least. The mids / highs are fantastic.

I'm using them in a 3x3m room (backyard office cabin).

My previous system was a logitech z623 - it doesn't power on any more but I'm tempted to utilise the sub one way or another - even if it's just turning it in to a passive sub and using a small external amp.

  • Trying to make a home theatre setup (complete novice at this)

Q3050i floor speakers for the front
Q3030i speakers for the back with stands
    Q3060s or QB12 for sub
Centre channel thats OOS (do i have to have this?)

Any suggestions for the reciever/amp? Thanks!

    • 3030i probably overkill for surround. Do 3010is or 3020is in a big room.

  • Stupidly ordered two sets of these. If anyone in Sydney or Blue mountains is interested at a discount let me know!

    • Which set?

      • +1

3050i in graphite gray. Although the Addicted to Audio are being absolute champions and letting me return!

  • +1

mine arrived today! hoping to hook it up later in the week and see how they compare against my fatiguing Klipsch RF82 speakers

    • Any feedback?

  • Was gonna bite this morning, but they sold out of walnut through my indecision, anyone wanna trade a walnut 3030i for black? haha

  • I took the plunge and bought a pair of 3050is to replace my older Wharfedale Diamonds. I heard the Qs sound is a bit more lively and energetic. This is a great deal btw.

    • +1

Giving an update in case anyone is interested. I replaced my Wharfedale 9.6 towers with the Q Accoustics 3050i.

They are phyiscally smaller, but much more efficient (louder without as much power) Wharfedales are known for being more laid back and mellow, where the Qs are definitely more lively. Personal flavours, but i'm enjoy the detail of the Qs a lot. It makes heavily mixed rock music / metal / music with a lot going on sound much clearer. All genres seem to sound nice with the Qs.

I used to have a bit of EQ on the Wharfedales to bring out a bit more detail on the top end, but the Qs don't really need anything IMO.

Build quality is nice, and the curved edges look very modern. Overall i'm very happy, for like $850 I don't think you can get anything as good as these. For comparison context I have Klipsch RP600s, Monitor Audio Bronzes, vintage Technics floorstanders, Pioneer BS22s, restored Mordant Short floorstanders.

The Qs just seem like amaing all rounder. I'm having a delayed Halloween party soon, so i'm keen to give them a solid run.

      • any recommendations for a good amp?

        thanks for the update!

        • For an exceptional budget stereo amp, check out Fosi audio. I think they are the V3s? There’s also new ones with treble / bass controls as well as sub out, so I’d go for that. They around $120 and are just great stuff.

My current main amp at the moment is a Yamaha AS501. It’s around $800, but has plenty of power, sounds great, looks slick and has 2 zones (I can play music outdoors on the deck and inside at the same time)

I haven’t played with many amps! For home theatre I have an older Pioneer, but the two above sound much much better for music.

          • @catfish08: thank you! yes will check Fosi, they have great a deal atm on ebay. cheers
