Cheapest Way to Call the World?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a reliable, cheap way to call anywhere in the world? Happy to call from my computer or mobile. I would only need it for a couple of weeks, as I attempt to sort out some placements in SE Asia.

Upon looking at Skype, I notice that their list does not include Vietnam…can anyone confirm this? I would have to call multiple countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam, etc.

Thanks!

  • TPG Eighty Eight Bundle includes UNLIMITED International Calls to 80 Countries:

    • Ya that's quite a bit more than I was hoping to spend.

Surely there is a much easier and cheaper option. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • cout >> "Hello World!"

lol, anyway, provided the person you are calling has a computer or a smart phone, ask them to get Viber and you can use it as a VoIP.

    • Good suggestion, but unfortunately I need to call because the administrative staff at some hospitals in Asia aren't the best at returning e-mails efficiently, nor am I even confident I have the correct e-mails, so I doubt me asking them to download Viber would be a viable solution haha.

Makes sense for many other similar situations though!

    • Oh dear, I hope you are not taking C++ for marks. It should be:

      cout << "Hello World"

You should have guessed from the direction of the arrows. We won't go into other things like std::cout being required now.

      • LOL, my bad, this was going back to my high school days. I honestly can't remember if i did it right XD

  • what country were you wanting to call?
There are some prepaid sims with decent international calls (granted it's not unlimited)
    Try Lyca mobile

    • I would have to call multiple countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam, etc.

      In general, Asia.

  • Line app is really cheap, I use it on my iphone. Only 1 cent per min to America, Singapore, China etc. Thailand is 2 cents per minute. You can buy $5 or $10 credit amounts if you want to try it out.

To call people overseas who may not have skype, viber, etc., buy a phonecard from your nearest Asian grocer. Different cards have differest rates but the grocer should have a rate card for you to look at to make the best card selection. Some of these cards let you call overseas for the cost of a local call + 1c to 10c per minute. You get a lot of bang for your buck with these cards……….. You can sometimes use the same cards to make STD calls for just a few cents instead of paying the ridiculous Telstra or Optus rates.

  • Buy a Lycra or hello talk call card from most news agency or as stated above places. So cheap.

    • <<Buy a Lycra…>>

As preferred by Tour De France contestants :)

  • Why call the world when you can PM theearth?

  • Choose one of the provider from this list:

Different providers have different rates for various countries.
