  • Just in time to watch the Expandables.

    • Haha. Saw yesterday, expect it to be very bad and it will be very good!

More wrinkles on screen than the final episode of 'The Golden Girls'

    • Didn't you watch the leaked version like everyone else?

        Shhhhhh!

      • How on earth is krisspy's comment getting neg'd ?

  • So do you get one Hoyts Rewards account with the standard free movie ticket (which will expire six months after initial purchase of account) as WELL as another movie ticket which happens to expire on 17 November 2014?

    • No, you need to join Hoyts Rewards by 17 November 2014, then you will receive one movie ticket that is valid for 6 months (however mine was actually valid for longer than this despite saying it was overdue).

    • +1

I just logged into my account. It says "

      (Expires on 18/02/2015)

      Cinemas: All Hoyts cinemas

Your free sign-up ticket will appear as a ticket option for selection when you buy tickets for eligible general admission sessions. Click Buy Tickets when you are ready to redeem your free sign-up ticket online or present your HOYTS Rewards Membership card when purchasing at the Cinema. Please note that your free sign-up ticket must be used within six (6) months of the date of purchase of your HOYTS Rewards membership. "

Discounted tickets to a nominated HOYTS Rewards "Movie of the Week"

So you can only buy a $9 ticket to the movie they select as "Movie of the Week?

    • -1

No. The ticket is valid for any 2D movie.

And they send you offers for discounted tickets to Movie of the Week.

    • HR Movie of the Week tickets are $10.

  • How did you get $6.62?
Its $9 plus a 8% discount if you use cashrewards?

    • +3

      $9 - 20% off = $7.20 - 8% off = $6.62

EDIT: Starthere Founders members (former Moneybackco members) get 9% off. ($6.55)

    • What about the 20%?

Login to Cashrewards first and use it to direct you to livingsocial.

      Use promotional code MONDAY20 at checkout (9 x 0.8 = $7.2; 7.2 x 0.92 = $6.62)

      • -4

I did that but when I try to purchase, it only comes down to $7.20?

        • The last part is cashback, which will take up to 60 days to receive.

        • @neil:
HI Neil, Sorry I had never used cashback before and thinking off making another purchase for $207 on the Kobe Jones offer using the 20% off as well;is the cashback thing a sure thing and can it be stacked with the 20% off offer for sure as may not be worth it for me without the additional 8%. I think I will wait for Coke to have the Hoyts movie tix reward.

    • Been doing this to, but should be able to claim reward points on the coke tickets for more free tickets.

    • I'm new to Coke Reward system, how many labels to redeem the movie tix? TIA

      • 9.5

      • 1 label=10 points. Ticket are 95 so usually 10 labels for one ticket.

  • -2

Not sure if the membership or ticket has the same expiry but when I went to Hoyts on Saturday they offered membership for $2 with a free ticket. Wasn't interested so didn't ask for more details

    • was the hoyts that you went to about to close for renovation? Chadstone VIC did the same a while back before the close their door.

    • Which hoyts?

You are unworthy of the username Bargainhunter8888!!!

  • Thanks OP. Been waiting for a discount to join.

Does anyone know if this is for NEW members ony? Thanks

    • Valid for new members only and cannot be used for current membership renewal.

      Description updated.

  • Do u enter the code after PayPal login?

    • -2

Promo code not redeemable with PayPal account.

      Description updated.

      • +1

Damn! i just bought it using paypal.

      • +1

It does work, just bought only paid $7.2 with paypal

  • +1

it is redeemable as long as you enter your primary payment method as paypal and enter your paypal email as per your account settings.

I just paid it via Paypal and got the 20% off.

    • +1

got the 20%% off but not the 8% cashback. but I guess it's still cheaper than the normal price.

      • same here. but it says it takes 3 days for the cashback to appear in the "rewards" section.

  • Nice

  • do we make a new HOYTS account for this if we already have an existing one?

    • wait. is hoyts reward membership is different from normal hoyts web account?

      • Yes. Hoyts Rewards costs $12 (usually) and gives you a free movie ticket on joining. You earn points when you buy tickets which you can redeem on movie tickets / candy bar items. You also get a discounted 'movie of the week'.

    • They go off your user name which can be anything. You can set up a new account with a random username and for the email and name etc, you can actually use the same email for your normal account. I usually use a few derivations for names and address but the key seems to be the username.

  • It mentions 5 as gifts, does this mean you can purchase it 5 times individually, cause it won't let me add total of 5 to card?

Also are the member ships emailed or posted out?

    • You get a coupon code printed on your LivingSocial voucher that you use to sign up to Hoyts Rewards online which brings the cost to $0.

You don't need the usual Hoyts Rewards 'welcome pack'.

      • So you could in effect, buy 1+5 (per LS acc.) & use the codes separately by creating a new Hoyts Rewards acc for every code?

Makes for a $6.62 ticket even if you are planning to create a throwaway acc per code. A bit of a hoop to jump through though just for a cheap ticket so might be a too much of a hassle for some ppl. Think of it as buying a eCinevoucher which has a long 6mth exp. Cheaper than the $10 MotW too.

  • "Hoyts rewards membership is annual and must be renewed at the standard membership fee" is a little worrying - no-one's gonna tell me I "must" renew….will look more at their T&Cs before deciding. And probably pay via PayPal so they don't have my cc details for next year's renewal

    • I have been a member for years and have never had my membership auto-renew.

I think they mean if you want to renew it has to be at full price, rather than 'it is compulsory to renew'.

      • Thanks Smulder

        • When you renew, it is $10 and you also get another free ticket when you renew so you are not missing out on much.

        • @highdealer:

It has gone up to $12

        • @Smulder: Did it? i thought i was $12 to sign up and $10 to renew?
I could be wrong but i remember renewing in april for $10.

        • @highdealer:

They upped the price sometime in May as I remember wanting to join, but put it off until Jun & saw they it was updated everywhere on their website.

  • I got 1 for myself and 1 as a gift. Can I use the gift for myself again? or is it only to be used by somebody else? (Just in my defence, I bought 1 for myself and 1 for wifey, but may use both myself :))

    • +2

I don't believe there is a requirement to provide proof of ID when you sign up, nor when you use the voucher.

      • +1

I joined online a few months ago for $12. No they did not check for ID when I picked up the membership card. They do not post the card or welcome pack.

NB: the free ticket waives the $1.10 booking fee & includes Xtremescreen, but there is still a surcharge to upg. to 3D.

  • Apologies if this has been answered previously, I am new to cashrewards.com.au I understand you click through their link to access the cashbank, but should I be logged in to the living social website first before clicking through cashrewards to the site, or is it fine to login to living social afterwards when actually purchasing the deal? Thanks in advance.

    • +2

Close all tabs with Living Social, then click through from Cash Rewards site. This brings in the cookie for starting via Cash Rewards and is necessary to get the rebate.

  • Has anyone actually bought any as 'gifts'? Do LS directly provide the Hoyts redemption codes in the order email or LS acc of the buyer so you can redeem them yourself?

    • Yes, you can redeem it yourself. You'll get the codes.

      • Sweet! Any expiry for the Hoyts codes to be redeemed while registering for an HR acc?

Thinking of getting some & using them at later times/intervals (start 6mths exp.) so I can see next yrs movies such as Avengers 2. :D

  • Cheers,OP. I was actually planning to get a couple for me and my partner so this is just perfect :-). It came down to $9.40 for two minus the cashback if it comes. For some reason, I have a $5 voucher in my LS account from some long-forgotten deal which was automatically applied in this deal :-).

  • great deal. but I wonder is Livingsocial trying to track down on personal details and spending using these luring discount and cashback..

they asked for not using paypal then your home address and contact number to get thru purchase

  • Where do you enter the coupon code??

  • Was about to do it through Cashrewards (I'm a member but I prefer Starthere as you can install PricePal which tells you which sites are cash back before you purchase - pops up the top of the screen) but one of the points on the Cashrewards site says:
If you use a coupon code that is not listed on this site, rewards may not be payable

Does anyone know if it still works? If it doesn't I'll just use Starthere…

  • Thanks OP, first time using cash rewards site and I noticed tonight the money in my account is already pending. Very cheap movie tickets.
