TVs Cash Back Offer (up to $100) for Purchases in Victoria Only from 1 January 2014

120

Easy Rebates is an accredited person under the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme.

This means that we are an accredited business that can create energy efficiency certificates (VEECs) from high efficiency appliances purchases and give cash back to consumers like yourself. Simply fill out online form on our website and attach your receipt. Once your claim has been approved by the Essential Services Commission we will organise online payment into your bank account.

Each certificate represents a tonne of greenhouse gas abated and is known as a Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificate (VEEC). For the first three-year phase of the scheme (2009-11), the scheme target was 2.7 million VEECs per annum, increased to 5.4 million VEECs per annum during the second three-year phase, starting on 1 January 2012.

For example, if in 2014 you bought a Sharp LC-60LE640X, you may get an easy $60 rebate from us once you claim is approved.

Or a Samsung TV UA55D7000LN, which may qualify you for an easy $40 rebate.

As there are around 1000 TVs to choose from, your model is likely to be eligible. And what's even better is that our online calculator allows you to view your estimated rebate!

This may be hard to believe in, but it is indeed possible. Please visit our website or www.veet.vic.gov.au for more information. Thanks to the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme which is available to all Victorian residential and business consumers.

N.B.: Easy Rebates can provide rebates for purchases made on or after 1 January 2014.

This whole scheme feels like a giant freaking waste of taxpayer money, what a joke.

This whole scheme feels like a giant freaking waste of taxpayer money, what a joke.

It's not paid for by Taxpayers.

The money comes from the Electricity retailers, who pay for carbon abatement certificates.

How is the VEET scheme funded? Are my taxes paying for this?

The VEET scheme works by allowing accredited businesses to create certificates when they help you make selected energy efficiency improvements to your premises. Each certificate - known as a Victorian energy efficiency certificate, or VEEC - represents one tonne of greenhouse gas abated and the money the accredited business makes from selling its certificates can go towards a discount on the product or appliance installed for you. Each year large energy retailers are required to purchase a set number of VEECs to fulfil their obligations under the scheme and then surrender those certificates to the ESC. The energy retailers may pass on to consumers all or part of the cost of meeting this obligation.

What a doozy. Instead of using tax dollars on more schools, hospitals, parks. We need to spend money on teaching people common sense:

    • That energy efficient products will use less energy and reduce power bills than non-energy efficient products
    • That eating fatty foods and not exercising will result in weight gain.
    • How to hold up your Myki card to the myki reader.

Someones making money out of this and it ain't me receiving a $100 'rebate'

your model is likely to be eligible.

My HMV doesn't appear to be on the list… Is it still eligible ?

Why is this TV not on the list :

    http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-50w670a

It's an OZB favourite and is quite ebergy efficient

    • Thanks regenade, could you please send us a quick email so that we can get back to you once this model becomes available?

  • This is stupid, the bigger the TV , the more power it uses the more money you get.

So why buy a 42 inch when a 60inch gives you a bigger rebate and is worse for the environment?

    • Thanks SamR, some bigger TVs have higher energy star rating or have bigger screens but consumer less power.

      • nonsense

  • Is Dick smith GE6880 possible?

  • Rep, if the purpose of the scheme is to encourage energy efficiency, why is it limited to just TV's, refrigerators and cloths dryers? What about air cond units, washing machines, heaters, ovens, dishwashers, etc ? They have star ratings.

    • Thanks for your question, the full list of products under the Victorian Government’s Energy Saver Incentive can be viewed here http://www.switchon.vic.gov.au/how-can-i-take-charge-of-my-p…

      • Hi vthocage,

I think the Dick Smith GE6880 is a new tv
        http://www.dicksmith.com.au/dick-smith-54-5-138cm-full-hd-dl…

Are you able to process a rebate on it? I and a friend in the area are interested, thanks

        • Thanks foundit, we do not seem to be able to find this TV anywhere, not even on the Energy Rating (ER) website http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…. For a TV to be added to our list, at a minimum it must be listed on the ER website. Strangely enough it not there. Please let us do further investigation.

        • @vthocage:
          Hi vthocage,
          Is it 3.5 star minimum?
Is it a week to review?

          Thank you in advance

        • @foundit:

It is actually 5.5 stars; the process itself may take more than 3 weeks, although 3-4 weeks is a standard.

          From the SwitchOn website:

"You can receive a discount or special offer under the Energy Saver Incentive for purchasing a TV that:

Has a 5.5–star energy efficiency rating, or higher
Does not consume more than 450 KWh/yr"

          Thanks

        • @vthocage:

Ah, I think the Dicksmith is 3.5 stars

  • Sony KDL-40W600B missing from easyrebates website but exists on energyrating website?

    • Thanks bongom, we have just submitted this TV to the Essential Services Commission for approval. It takes them about a week to clear it.

      • Essential Services? So watching TV is now an 'essential service'? crikey

        • Hardya, the VEET scheme is administered by the Essential Services Commission (ESC).

    • Bongom, Sony KDL-40W600B has been added to Easy Rebates website. Thanks

Well, I just submitted the form, I'll report back in 4-12 weeks if I successfully get the money back :-)

  • Got my cash back a few days ago. All worked smoothly.
