  • Great to see the Victorian government investing in this massive opportunity for energy saving!

  • +1

    Your website says they're free ($0.00) : http://theledspecialist.com.au/index.php?route=product/produ…

    • Agreed… Thanks, I'll take the free ones on offer too!

      • Install the free ones into a cardboard box, do the paperwork and send them interstate
        Its a deal! Win-win

  • Do I need to a home owner to get it installed ? or can tenants do it as well ?

    • +1

you need to ask the landlord, it's not your house…

      • +3

Not to change a lightbulb you don't!
As long as it has the compatible MR16 downlights already installed!

        • +1

          These need transformers installed…

          Voltage 12V AC

        • +1

          @jv:
Yes, these are just the globe being offered.
Hence my comment… "compatible MR16 downlights already installed!"

Edit: But… as per oz-dxer's comment: "beware of the potential "flicker" if the drivers aren't also supplied."

Almost has potential to be a great bargain!

  • +3

One of the presenters on 3aw said last night that he had these installed throughout his house recently, and now he feels like he's living in a hospital…

    • +3

Led's come in different colours, you don't need to get the whitest and brightest you could also go for a 'warm white' which is yellow.

Colour and brightest would effect wether or not his house 'felt' like a hospital, not the type of globe/light.

    • +1

      6W and non dimmable ?
440 lumens is not equal to a 50w dicrohic.
And what if the existing drivers are not compatable ?
Sounds like they are just dumping overstocked rubbish.

    • +3

3AW presenter, probably is actually living in a hospital…

      • +2

and his 3AW audience all live in retirement homes

  • Is the tv signal still going to work?

    • +2

Yeah, but your house lights will strobe at whatever the BLB rate on your telly is…

    • not with some of the cheaper ones…

lots of people are getting electrical interference with LEDs…

      • +2

the only MR16 retrofit ones i have found that dont interfere ar Nichia 8w.
even Philips etc cause probs when run off 12v AC. On 12v DC they are fine.
So much rubbish is dumped in Australia it is not funny.

    • It is my question too.
Last time, I changed from halogen downlights to LED, the channel 7 and SBS are not working. (MR16 model)

  • If we add these to our cart, and you ship the items out, how do we get the free installation (which I assume is part of the Governments conditions of rebate)!

    • they are just retrofit MR16 it seems, so beware of the potential "flicker" if the drivers aren't also supplied.

      • Looks like globes only. Would prefer not ot have anyone else f…n messing about in my house, but curious about actual conditions of rebate!

  • i am a bit confused
Your website states that the 10.5w Brightgreen DR700 is "as bright as a 50w halogen" and it's $47
but apparently this 6w Prismal is also as bright as a 50w halogen…….
    why am i not convinced????

    • +1

It depends who you speak to… 10.5 -> 50w sounds about right. However, unethical suppliers will tell you that 6w LED -> 50w incandescent, which is a complete fairy tale.

There have been some great comments in this thread, eg. oz-dxer!! Gotta love OzBargain!!

  • +2

What do you mean when you say installed? I don't have down lights already, are you going to install and wire them in my house?.

  • is there any program in NSW like this?

  • +1

Any offers for those of us that have B22 or E27 lighting?

    • This ^^ bump.

My house is all E27 with 2 or 3 B22

      Do we miss out?…

  • Why is it free in here?
    http://www.loveled.com.au/shop/

  • Rep seems to have left this grenade here and skipped town. So many unanswered questions…

  • +2

-Matches brightness of a 50watt Halogen Downlight

    That's a downright lie.

    • +10

      Sounds like a downlight lie

      • True, if you have a large enough sling shot, you can make pigs fly.

  • I just spoke to them, and they will install where you have existing down lights installed.
ie. they will change the globes for you.

  • low budget operator - domain registered to a sole trader who is not registered for gst.

    • +2

You don't neccesarily have to be registered for GST.. or pay tax if you earn under $75,000 if you're a Sole Trader!

      • +1

thats 75k turnover (sales), not income. hence its a small time operation

        • Correct, which I was thinking straight away of tradies for some reason, which is usually completely sales (services) of course.

        • Obviously new business as started in 2014 as well it seems.
I would feel more comfortable to know the licence or registration numbers of any authorised people.

  • +1

Big Brownie point for Vic Government, WA government only taxes us on useless crap instead of giving them back to the people/

    • +5

Extremely happy that my tax dollars are not being used to change peoples light bulbs .
The idiot that thought this was a good use of tax dollars needs to be fired . I'm thinking the LED industry "lobbied" hard for this one .

      • +4

A bit like those useless 'energy saving' powerboards that were given away by door to door people so that they could make a commision/wage at the expense of tax payers!

  • I seriously doubt free installation will be done for anything less than 12 lights. I tried to have this done 2 years ago as the program was running but cost a little more. The "company" wouldn't come out unless I had at least 12 lights to swap over.

On a separate note I did change some down lights over last year and they would make a loud buzzing noise. They were Phillips brand, I returned them and are still using halogens.

    • depending on which Philips version you had they may have had the small fans in them for cooling.

  • email is at yahoo.com
do you guys have an REC, licence number, registration number, Government authority to carry out these retro fit green initiatives?

you have a mobile number, no address and the email is kinda…..lame

  • hm..the reps not comment or reply anything so I am not convince this company has a good customer service.

Rep, this $3.99 each, is this including the transformer and install both of them free?

  • we have existing GU5.3 halogen lights installed. Would the MR16 led lights fit?

  • Now negging this deal due to lack of details of the deal, inconsistencies in specs, apparent lack of business details and licensing/registration, and ultimately lack of response from OP to questions and concerns!
I'm not one to follow with blind faith!!!

    • +1

Not sure if I will neg it but I'm certainly not up-voting it either and completely emphasize with your reasoning.

My question (also asked by someone else) was never answered. Shouldn't post a deal if they have no intention of returning.

  • +1

Not even close to the light output of a 50W halogen so the power consumption comparison is highly misleading. It demonstrates the incompetence of governments when they allow taxpayer funds to be wasted subsidising schemes without strict requirements regarding the performance of the products that may be installed.

  • Any good suggestion for MR16 dimmable warm white LED downlight globes? The Philips 7W ones (sub $20 at Bunnings) are not bright enough for me. Thanks.

  • Remember when light globes were simple. Now you need a course to understand the tech detail/issues! ;-)
