that's only a discount of 6% from the RRP.. not that great.. considering most people know someone who works at woolies/big w/dse and can get 5% off automatically.

for consoles a good deal is 10% or more, or some bundled accessories or extended warranty..

also having said that, paying even $470 is ridiculous for the new slim ps3. once again australians pay the nice beach tax.

      What he said

    • +2

its not a bad deal compare to the ones thats been published, but yeah I agree, wont give a -ve though.

And its a pre-order, Probably find JB will be cheaper

    • +1

JB's preorder price yesterday was posted at $494. It may change by then but currently this is cheaper

  • so hoping there's some el cheapo deals going on the old style ps3's soon

  • +2

Currently, this is the cheapest advertised price. Surely it doesn't deserve a neg?

voting positive means you think it's a good deal if you get 6% off the RRP. sure 6% is better than nothing, but it's easily beaten with even the tiniest bit of pressure on the salesperson, and if you buy an extended warranty then they'll jump through hoops to give you extras like an extra controller/vertical stand/remote control etc. so no, i don't think this is a particularly good deal.

      • +3

Well it's 6% plus free delivery, which depending on where you live, could be the best deal by a mile.

  • Thanks for letting us know the cheapest price to get these things.

    Good post.

  • Gonna plus it. Sure 6% isn' massive but it's better than any other price posted so far and is a lot better than EB's retail or JB's $494 that was posted yesterday.

I'm sure other offers will come over time so I wouldn't jump into a pre order right yet…but for now I think this is decent for a day one price.

  • 6% is the best offer at the moment. where in ozbargain guidelines does it say consoles must be 10% off or more to qualify as a bargain???

  • cheapest advertised price when everyone else more expensive

    • votes suck

this is the cheapest so far, that's what this site is about and as for the beach tax the UK are paying 250 pounds, that is just over AU$500 at the moment, though the US are paying US$299 which is AU$370

  • GAME online need to let us use store credit which I got from trade-in games.

    Note:

AU: The PS3 Slim will be released here in Australia on September 3.

This may be a good time to purchase the PS3 Fat, mainly because the SLIM actually has less features!
    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2009/08/10-things-you-need-to-know…
The PS3 slim no longer has the "install other OS" feature, 2 less USB ports, and no vertical stand (sold seperately). Once the PS3 is released it will be harder to find the original version.

On the other hand the SLIM takes up less space, and will use less power.

It's also quieter too. Definitely a bit of a trade off, but considering how Sony restricted the RSX chip in Linux, there was little point to it anyway.

Admittedly less USB is also annoying but it's part of the slim image I suppose.

Even with the feature reduction (seems like the first wave of PS3s had the most features, they've steadily been cutting them since) I would still opt for the slim to be sitting next to my TV than the bigger, bulkier older one. Good advice though.

    • It's no less USB ports. The fat has only had two ports for a year now.

  • +1

If you don't look at rebates and back of house benefits the company gets, the PS3 SLIM has only about 6% of margin. Consoles don't really have alot of margins for sales people to play with unfortunately in retail stores. This is actually a good deal if you have a look at what others are doing, sure you'll save about $20 odd dollars which isn't that much but have a look at low margin products like 10% off Apple Macs … people go crazy because they understand that it's probably the cheapest ull find anywhere.

    Good find dude.

    • Finally, a post that makes sense :)

I agree, even getting the 6% off + free delivery is a pretty good deal on its own. Unless you can catch a great bundle deal, it's hard to save anything on consoles. I think around and post Christmas there are some great deals, but with 3 months to go I think that $479 delivered will be the best deal until then.

  • +2

    FWIW…it's only a 4% discount.

    • lol. woops

  • Good find!

    Appreciate it.

  • I read on another forum that a Target store was clearing out the 40GB PS3 model for $199. Can't confirm, but you could try your luck I guess.

  • Wish I lived in the states - only $299(us) for the new model, and it comes out a week earlier

    • u could probably buy one there and get a mate to send it to you before the ones arrive here in Australia.

      • Ebay FTW?

  • but getting the American version means u screwed out of playing Aus blu-ray dics.

    • no prob really, chips are great value here.

  • seems to be expired
