This has ALWAYS existed. You just had to ask.

    • If the President says so….

Don't really need to neg though

    • +1

Buyers beware. Even though the joining fee is waived, they will charge you a fee for the dongle (the pass that lets you enter the gym) and that is at least $50.

  • +3

Should mention that it is $50 to $60 per month on a 12 to 18 month contract…
(Most people around here know these $0 joining fees are a scam, and it's the ongoing price that is of interest)

    • $50 - $60? Which branches offer those?

I've checked a few branches (online) and the minimum was $60.

      • +1

        I just picked some in Syd/Melb CBD…
But yea, even though they are waiving a bogus charge, please check out the price before signing up.
PLUS, the gym industry doesnt have the best rep for those who need to break their contract.

Check out a TAFE/Uni gym in your area. These are often quite good and a fraction of the price.

        • I've ended my contract without any issues. I think people just need to follow the contract terms.

Mine was: Early cancellation? Pay up the remaining fees. Cancellation? Warn us 1 month in advance.

  • Most places will give you a session for free, some even a 1 week trial, for anyone interested.

I use my local TAFE Gym. $95 for 6 months, includes student association (Free events, discounted movies, and a semester BBQ feed) which has showers etc. No joining fee!

    I HATE anytime fitness.

    • +2

      Why do you hate it?

Edit: got down voted lol. It's a legitimate question that will help buyers! And I'm serious.

    • +1

That's really good pricing. Unfortunately for me, the one at RMIT is something like $50 a month or $12 per day.

      • And that pricing sucks (of rmit)… I'd rather pay the extra $10 to go somewhere close to my house.

    • I didn't hate Anytime Fitness until I tried one which was near a new job I had started.

Even though I told them several times afterwards that I no longer live in the same area they still call and harass me asking me if I want to sign up.

I have told them I don't live there anymore what the hell?!

    • It's all marketing, they put mirrors everywhere and people think its convenient to look at themselfs, it's actually to make it look bigger. I wanted to do a 10 day free trial. They made me pay upfront, than go through a refund process as I didn't like it. The showers were only 1 shower the fee's are crazy. Than again, I'd be paying 6 months worth of membership at my local TAFE than I do at anytime in a month and a half.

      • Actually I completely forgot about that.

The one I went to for a while only had 1 shower as well, and it was right next to a toilet with no dividing doors.

    • Very insightful read that everyone should read, before joining.

(I'll leave the deal running just in case)

      • Could you remove the ?gclid=COTz54HossACFZKBfgodP5cABg part of the URL because it's not needed.

If it's some sort of affiliate or referral link, remove it and then have a read of this

        • Yep, redundant ending removed.

  • Melbourne uni gym and rmit is more expensive than anytime…. And it's limited hours

  • I go here. Good gym, but on the expensive side. Only go because it's convenient for me (close and open 24 hours).

    • +1

If it's any consolation, take very long hot showers.

  • It is very over priced +60/month start from…
Other local gyms in Labrador between $7.9 and $12 /week (no string attached) and they are 24/7…

    • Thing to note:

Anytime fitness is a franchise and when you have membership, you can access other gyms (I think).

You essentially have shower access, anytime, pretty much in most places around Sydney (and the world).

      • Anytime fitness is a franchise and when you have membership, you can access other gyms (I think).

I can confirm this as I'm a member but during the first month of your membership, you are forced to visit the one you joined. According to the person that did my application, it has something to do with HQ. Though you can "try" to ask the other gym to let you in if you are a member.

You essentially have shower access, anytime, pretty much in most places around Sydney (and the world).

Maybe you can try sleeping in the gym as well XD. Free accomodation when travelling ;P

        • Regarding the last past.. Can't tell if sarcasm, but yeah that's the ozbargain spirit! Haha

        • @inose: Yeah the last part is a joke… although… could work XD

      • So as many other gyms like Jetts, and they're still a lot cheaper than Anytime FItness.

        • Yeah but there's way more anytime fitness.

        • +1

If I had joined Jetts instead of AF, I would be probably spending the extra money on transport just to gets to Jetts.

  • I have both,ff is good if you use all the inclusions, classes and staff.anytime was closer and ended up using more. Sunday and Monday nights you can never get a bench or any chest machine.by all mean, if u have cheaper gym closer to you that's a bargain

But no joining fee shouldn't be and bargain.monthly fee is.

  • Thanks for the reviews, I have been looking at Anytime Fitness as one is opening near me, and I even got flyer today in the mail.

    • Will you go with anytime, or is there a better gym?

      • Within Easy Walking distance, they are the only gym. There are two more gyms close, but both are attached to pools, and have set hours.

Will I go with them, I don't know, I might check them out more once they are open. (still in build out atm)

  • The cost a month really doesn't matter if the owners/PTs suck, the place is not kept in good cindition (esp toilets), packed all the time or other members are ass holes. My anytime fitness i go to is reasonably priced, and has no nuances, plus ive been to an anytime overseas which was convenient

  • +1

You should always be able to find a way to waive that fee:
Look at this older entry for insider info about joining a gym ( it is very helpful! ):

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/108400

On a different note, I myself pay $348 a year at Jetts ( $6.67 a week ). Got the card and joining fee waived when they opened Jetts Central Haymarket. If you want to join 24/7 brands, check out where they open new shops and see what the offer is. In most cases you can then transfer the membership to your local 24/7 franchise or just use it anyway, since you can use all clubs of a chain ( Anytime, Jetts, FF, whatever )

    • Very good advice.

    • best advice yet, i am with anytime fitness and my weekly fee is only 9.90 a month that was a foundation membership however. and theres never a joining fee…. you can always bargain no joining fee BUT you have to pay for that stupid key fob (pretty much a joining fee) anyway

  • $44.95/month master race
