Hey guys anyone suggest a bargain phone for around $250
prefer android or ios as he is an interntational and will need language translation
If android it should have 1gb pref 2gb ram
16gb onboard storage is ok, no need for an sd card
cpu/gpu performance doesnt matter too much
can be older gen, bigger screen preferred

At that price you're looking at Android or Windows.. Even stooping to a iPhone 4 secondhand you'd be struggling!
And you're really only going to find Chinadroids that tick all your boxes.
I'm a big fan of Windows Phone, as I have always thought they were so goddamn dead simple to use, and I think it would be the best phone for someone older. A simple interface, smooth and pretty much painless. Great if you are not into fancy apps and games, and even that area is improving.
Other reasons why I am also reccomending them is price, screen size, and durability. iPhone would do just fine, they are simple enough, but they are expensive, and small, and can be ridiculously fragile.
There's a deal here on a $84 Lumia 630. Decent, but if you are interested, you can find heaps more old and new windows phone at sub $200 price.

moto g might be a good choice might be a good choice, 2gb was a wishlist but 1gb will do

there are a few options, mixed results due to the complexity of languages, but these phones are marketed internationally, so I'm pretty sure they are fairly decent at it.

There is no chance you can get a phone with 2gb for around $250.
I've recently bought my mum Motorola Moto G from TGG. Excellent phone and came highly recommended from Ozbargainers
Specs It is upgradable to 4.4 Kitkat :)
