  • i still think the g526 is a better deal but this is close

    • how much was the g526 for in that deal? I must have missed it.

Also does anyone know how much to unlock one of these from vodafone?

    • +1

Can you get a decent price on the g526 at the moment?

  • +10

i like the specs posted by dse in how they dont state the stuff thats missing

    512mb ram
    no led flash
    no front cam

    pretty serious omissions

  • +4

Just remember that this phone is locked to Vodafone and attempts to have it unlocked by anyone other than Vodafone themselves have failed (by me and others) So expect to shell out an extra $75 if you want it unlocked.

    • +2

Any recommendations on a decent, cheapish, unlocked phone then?

      • +3

        Not my forte I'm afraid.

    • +1

how about the ebay unlocking service fromo the uk?

      • Tried them. Said that they couldn't do it and had to refund me
Something about the IMEI not being on their database. Happened to a few others from the other deal on this phone the other day.

      • +1

I tried the eBay eunlockers as well as 2 other services on the internet, all of the reply was "this IMEI is not in our database". So Nokia might have changed the IMEIs or the unlockers don't have the new numbers in their database. The IMEI number on my box and the phone were the same numbers but the unlockers specify you check inside the phone for which the box must be opened.

If you are NOT going to use this phone on Vodafone I would advice you not getting this at least for now. If you are keen on this phone buy the unlocked version.
        Just my 2 cents.

        • I ended up getting it unlocked for $75. Not a bad deal in the end and I'm happy with the phone.

    • +1

So you tried EVERYTHING? Even BagMan on here? Can't do it

    • +2

damn, vodaphone is a dealbreaker for me

      • Same!

    • Would this not work?

"Charges apply for unlocking some devices. Unlocking your device online saves you $25.00."

      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

      • That DOES work. It costs you $75

  • +6

Windows phone 8.1 device is way better in user experience than similar priced androids.
It's biggest draw back is no good YouTube app thanks to freaking greedy google veto microsofts excellent first party YouTube app.
I would prefer the dual sim version

    • Microsoft kinda annoyed them too. Competitor not just on the mobile landscape as well.

  • Thanks ordered one to test Windows phone.

    • +2

the OS aint bad, make sure you update the service update once you got it, it takes some half an hour or so, update the OS to the latest release version.
you can trick the phone to think it is in USA by just changing regions to access the AI assistant

      • Thanks jackau. Appreciate your guidance.

      • +1

You dont need to do that. Australians have access to cortana now.

        • Yer if you have the 8.1.1 developer preview you can use the alpha version on Aus Cortana…

        • @happychild100:
yes, but upgrade to preview is not without risk hence not recommended until user played it for a while and knows what they are doing.

        • @jackau:

Makes me wonder if upgrading to preview could possibly have a side effect of unlocking the phone. I know installing other countries' firmware did that for the older Symbian^3 phones, but I don't have any experience with WP.

Anyone willing to test it out?

        • @elusive:
          Highly doubt it.

I bought this at $99 with $4.95 a few days ago. Does DSE do a price comparison or something within a period of time (like good guys do) so that you get a refund if item goes on sale later?

    • I just bought one on Tuesday as well, still in box.

argh, guess not coz I bought it in store and they wouldn't accept code!

  • chatted with cortana, asked her do u hav a boyfriend? her answer is quite funny, go try that

  • Would It work with Lebara?

    • +1

Got one that is Vodafone locked, Lebara sims work OK for calls and sms, but I cannot get MMS to work.

Not sure if that is locked Network related but the phone keeps adding a port in the settings that is not on the Lebara website.

Internet seems OK but I am not an experienced enough user to say if it is fast or slow.

      • +1

I'm with Lycamobile and they flat out said they don't do MMS when I rang them up, was like wtf? Instead of getting MMS I get this stupid link to a telstra.com/mmsview website with an individual login and password for each pic, sh*ts me no end.

  • wow was tempted to get one for mum at $99, lucky I waited thanks OP

  • Cheers, Sparkyglo.
Your post pushed me over the edge :) a 630 after unlocking for $159.00,ordered.

    page 3, then onto summary…
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/nokia-lumia-630_Mobile-Phone_r…

edit *perhaps l200for a worthy counterpart <Android, unlocked.
    Superb value.

    • Camera is crap really, if you want a bang for buck camera pickup a HTC One or similar for ~150 on gumtree (does decent macro/flash ect)
*edit that page took me to camera page

      • Yep review said it's a step backwards, might as well allot ~$100 to a decent LTE, OS KitKat, IPS@qHD, 5" 8mm with 2XSim unlocked. Or gift.

  • Kakaotalk on winphone STILL has no voice calls! I want to get my parent this phone, but gimped Kakaotalk is a dealbreaker.

  • 5Mp Camera is pretty good

  • You can get the dual sim version online for a tiny bit more than here unlocked from voda.

    • Kogan has it for $149 + delivery (to Sydney works out to $172) for the unlocked dual Sim model. This deal above works out to $159 for the single SIM model.

      • +1

This is locked phone. Kogan dont offer locked phone. $159 is for unlocked grey stock.

I got one of these on Tuesday. For 99. Well its just 15 dollars.

after about 4 days of usage, Its pretty good phone. Back cover feels like shit quality. Camera is pretty bad. And lack of front cam, flash and light sensor. Its screen quality is not the best but is very good for its price. Phone Performance is great. Some apps crashed on first run(before even start of app) but runs great after that. Internet explorer is much better than expected. I tried few heavy games like Asphalt 7 and GT racing and didn't see any fps drop or any kind of lags.
Battery is way better than what i was expecting.

I think its a great deal for its price.

A couple of quick points on the 630.

    SensorCore Fitness Tracker
Includes SensorCore which is a Motion Processor like the one found on the iPhone 5S. So it's like a FitBit or Jawbone and can keep track of your steps. The Bing Health and Fitness app then shows your daily step count and other fitness information.
    http://winsupersite.com/windows-phone/bing-health-fitness-ap…

    Swappable Colorful Shells
You can make the phone colourful by swapping out the back shell. See http://www.nokia.com/au-en/accessories/all/cases-and-covers/…
Expanses sells them for $24 and they are about $10 on ebay

    GPS with Offline Maps
The native Nokia Here Maps let's you download the entire map for Australia and other countries. You can then use it for navigation without requiring internet accces.
    http://www.nokia.com/global/apps/lumia/here/

    Expandable Storage
Use it as an iPod, store music files and also use the excellent Nokia Mix Radio app lets you download music and play them offline. You can also use the apps like myTube to download YouTube videos for offline play.
    http://www.nokia.com/global/apps/app/mixradio/

    Performance & Battery Life
The Windows Phone OS provides a smooth user experience and better battery life compared to Android running on the same hardware. This is proven with the HTC One M8 running Windows Phone using the same hardware but with longer battery life.
    http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/doe…

It's a great second phone. A great phone for kids. A great phone to pass the time between the smashed iPhone or Galaxy screen and your coming renewal date (at which time the wonders of Windows Phone may have you thinking about switching platforms).

  • +2

Note: This is still an absolutely great price at $99 (Can the op change the price and set it not expired?)

Also if your on any Vodafone MVNO you would not need to unlock. This has been confirmed with Lebara (see comment above) and should be the same with the other Voda providers below.

    http://www.idd.com.au/mobile-providers.php
    GoTalk
    Hello Mobile
    Just Mobile
    Lebara Mobile

  • My iphone just died. If I'm using Vodafone post-paid, will my sim card work on this?

    • +1

Yes. Any sim from Voda (pre or post) will work without having to unlock.

      • thanks!

  • I rather walk around if it is locked by Voda.

  • +1

After 6 months is $20 to unlock it from Vodaphone.

I bought one and thoroughly impressed with it.

    • The omission of the 850mHz 3G band, will work best with Optus network depending on where you are.

    • When does the six months start? After activation or purchase? Is it possible to back date the start date?

    • $25 according to voda

  • Anyone try this yet? Is this legit at all?
    http://attlumiaunlockcode.com/products/Australia-Vodafone-No…?

    • according to whirlpool, those guys cant unlock these:-

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2262563

Reflashing the phone does not work.

      Someone suggested this:-

"Not yet that sites takes 1 to 3 business days, I'm going to cancel it
      and get it here. http://www.jailbreakwizz.com/product/australia-vodafone-noki…
I just spoke to them online and mine can be done, takes 12 hours."

But he has not heard any further. Their website looks pretty dodgy to me.

Unless that guy strikes it lucky, we may be out of luck on this device. I am tempted to wait the six months myself.
