Sorry for hijacking the first reply, I just want to share with ozb fellows that I just price matched g526 from bigw for $79.50, using a picture of sign I took in Kmart yesterday. The picture can be found below in my Dropbox, that's another $10 saving on a good values mobile, happy matching.

Oh man I just missed it :(

      • +3

Cheers mily. Well I tried to sneak that in. I previously went to Kmart and they had no such sale or any g526 for that matter.

I had your photo on my phone all ready. Went in to BigW in Midland, WA, they had a couple left. The assistant started calling someone on the phone. She asked where I got that price from. I said it was some other Kmart, I've been travelling today. I went for my backup, the fresh Kmart catalogue from next door and placed it under her nose. I wasn't sure what was going on, as she kept calling people. Finally she got the word it was good to put through at the catalogue price of $89.50.

Take off 5% for using ING and I wanted more. I went to Bunnings and price-matched some ear-muffs for $13. What a day to tell the grandkids about.

        • I had the same backup plan as yours this morning, but the girl didn't give me a second chance as she simply matched the lower price.

This is a genuine sign that I saw in my local Kmart yesterday, although they have no stock at the moment. And it also make sense as the RRP for G526 is $159, thus 50% off should be $79.5.

Anyway, at least we both found the phone and get it price matched.

    • bought a HTC 310 two hours ago.
they restocked some yesterday, said the assistant. but "two pieces for each model."
so you can call your local Kmart again if you missed the sale two days ago.

  • Would this be better than the Huawei G526 for $89?

        • Let us know how u go with Xperia M

        • Hi regenade, PM you yesterday regarding the unlock. Can you help? Thanks.

        • Sorry guys for Xperia M it will be more than $25 so not worth it. As of G526 it will be $8 as the cost for G526 is unfortunately more as it uses new unlock algo.

        • I got my unlock code for the G526 for FREE directly from Vodafone.

          See my post below

    • +1

I just entered my IMEI on the Vodafone official unlocking site and they gave me the unlock code for my brand new Huawei G526 for FREE!

    • +5

wbeer…why..when the Desire 310 is $75 in the same Kmart sale?

      • +1

good find. Definitely a good deal.

    • +1

No flash, Sony Xperia M and Huawei have it

      • -6

why do you need flash for a cheap phone, doesn't make the photo any prettier.

        • +3

maybe to produce some lighting for photos?

        • +3

Also very handy as a torch!

  • +5

I got the huawei g526 last year off dick smith on a half price sale for $99 it was $5 to unlock on ebay… I read the reviews on the sony and i think the huawei is better phone.

how much space the Jelly bean 4.3 takes? How much is left after for apps in the Xperia M after OS?

    • -2

You can always put SDCard in.

      • -2

you can't install apps in sdcard?

        • -1

With Android 4 you can, you never play one?

        • Not many people put SD Card in their Android 4 phone?

Some apps will allow you to move it to memory card.

    • +1

my one took almost 3gb left with 800mb. i have not install any app no music.

  • +1

sadly both phones are lacking in Roms I like to flash :(

Rooting and ROM update is important factor to consider too

both HTC Huawei and sony are not known to give proper rom updates for future version, even those hardware are capable of getting next gen OS.

I am yet to find an under 100 AUD phone with 1G ram that allow me to flash stable ui with ease.

  • Just called Burwood (VIC) sale started days ago and they're completely sold out.

    • +1

nooo. any tips for other VIC stores?

      • I just picked up a 526 at Burwood (VIC). They just put out new stock. Had a few of all models - be quick!

        • much appreciated!!

        • I called a bit before midnight (yesterday, Mon) and they didn't say that…

  • cyanogen mod?

  • -1

I don't know much at all about sony phones, but is this the water proof version which I saw on some poster in the streets?

    • Company's usually only advertise their top end flagship phones. Think about it and you'll get your answer.

    • +1

Not this one - however although it's not easily found on their web-site, Vodafone are dumping out the Xperia Z for $0 repayments on their 24 month $30 plan. Two upgrades old, but still a nice piece of full-hd all bells and whistles kit that is getting KitKat:-)

  • Called another store and they said there was no phone sales starting this week.

OP - Which catalog was this in?

    • +1

And this is why dupes are bad…. There is more information in the other post, including links to the current catalogue and a photo of the page in question from a physical catalogue.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/144975

  • bought the last one sony M at hoppers they just had demo and they gave it to me for 89.

    • Is the Sony M you bought dual Sim ?

      • no its single sim i dont know if vodafone offer dual sim phone and dual sim is spac wise better phone.

  • Thank OP. Great deal if anyone manage to pick one up. I've grabbed the last two from Hurstville for parents.

Hurstville and Sylvania NSW is out of stock on all Vodafone handset.

Not sure if it's a Sydney or NSW thing… both KMarts got sign (as per photos by dosata in the other post) all over, advertising 50% Vodafone prepaid handsets. Maybe ask for a price match at OW or DSE?

Note… I can also confirm the Sony Xperia M Vodafone prepaid will accept Just Mobile Sim

    • +1

Not sure if it's a Sydney or NSW thing… both KMarts got sign (as per photos by dosata in the other post) all over, advertising 50% Vodafone prepaid handsets

I did some research into the matter and checked with my sources at Kmart.

It appears this promo is run by Vodafone directly and stock arrives from Vodafone directly and NOT from the Kmart distribution centre.

This means that Kmart staff have no visibility over how much stock they will get and when. They can only see what they have right now in stock.

Therefore, this promo is very much a hit and miss. Vodafone send a very limited amount of stock to each store and depending on how soon they sell out and how much more stock Vodafone has left to move, they might send them more during the promotion period but that is not guaranteed and the Kmart people themselves have no way of knowing.

Basically, this promo has nothing to do with Kmart. Vodafone are simply using them as an agent to move stock.

  • I'm after a phone to work on optus networks. Do both of these suit ? I think the Huwaei is a 4G phone whereas the Sony is only 3G. Cannot check specs on Vodaphone website for the G526 as it says it is under maintenence :(

    • No… Vodafone and Telstra runs on the same frequency for 3G and possibly 4G, but Optus is on its own.

      • +1

so are you saying that if i were to buy either the huwaei or the sony to use on optus network, it won't work?

        • +3

It will work for the G526. There's a lot of misinformation regarding phones on OzB.

There are three models of the G526, with different radios for different parts of the world. The model Vodafone sells is the G526-L22, which is UMTS 850/900/2100 capable. Therefore it can be used Telstra or Optus (or Boost, or Virgin, or…..) once it has been unlocked from Vodafone.

Source: I've got 2 x Voda G526's, one on Virgin and the other on Boost, both in regional Australia where 850 / 900 frequencies are common.

  • +7

When I bought the G526 I unlocked it for free on vodafone website. Its worth a try first.

    • +1

Just got one, they wanted $25 on Vodafone website.

      • +1

I unlocked mine for free as well! Happy days :)

  • bought a sony M at dicksmith before, not cheap and easy to unlock. the best price is $25

  • ask voda nicely they have unlocked mian today for free, i am voda customer too.

  • +1

Guys, which is the best? HTC desire 310 or Xperia M or Huawei G526 ? My thought is going for Huawei. Anyone with me?

    • Personally I'd go the G526;
      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5497&idPhone2=…

HTC doesn't appear to be unlocked easily, so that rules it out for most people.

      • -2

friend of mian unlocked HTC DESIRE 300 OPTUS MODEL for $10.

        • +2

Vodafone locked HTC 310 vs Optus locked HTC 300 … Very different.

    • Spec wise, definitely Huawei G526.
I bought this phone from previous DSE sale - very good device for the price…
The only drawback is no customise ROM available at this moment.

    • get the g526

    • +1

      G526

      Reasons:

      1. 4G capable
      2. More RAM
      3. Good camera
      4. Easy and cheap to unlock. I unlocked my G526 for free through vodafone but if yours won't, you can get a code for under $10.
    • +1

that's a bit naughty dude. call up and release the hold

      • +2

Perhaps he's kept it on hold for his OzB fellows rather than the hoi polloi.

        • +1

Yes, I mentioned to her in another thread that some people will be buying these to resell on eBay. She was doing her bit to try to prevent that, I suppose.

Maybe the mods will swap her negs for an inaugural 'Anti-Broden' badge…

        • +2

He is a she. And yes that was the idea. Got there just before closing today, and bought one. The other is no longer on hold. It's at Dandenong by the way. Call before you come just to by sure.

  • +1

    Have the Sony M.
For that price its the ultimate small factor (124 x 62 x 9.3 mm) phone that has enough RAM and CPU to keep you powering. Plus all the features that you would find in the new phones (dual camera, nfc, sd Card ect) without too much compromise.

    • Have you been able to unlock it?

If so, was it easy and how much did you pay?

      Cheers

      • Yeah its a bit fiddly to unlock but not too hard if you have done unlocked/rooted an android phone before.

Unfortunately, its a multi stage process.

  • +9

I'm definitely getting one after watching this advert for the G526

Kills other phones by the hundreds, with fireballs from its screen and bolts of lightning from its arse.

    • +2

      EXPERIENCA EXTREMA!

  • JUst bought a 526 at Belmont WA (last one) heaps of signage (Vodafone 1/2 price) lady didn't know much about it.
    Great DEal OP
