can only find sony m stock. but unsure whether to pull the trigger due to unlocking woes.

  • i got last 526 as well, i missed out the last DSE deal. I was skeptic about voda website to show unlock code for free but it did!
awesome OP and everyone who posted their replies! thank you!

  • Unlock codes can be bought on eBay for less than $4.50, and sale is on already, just no stock around so got a price match instead from the competition.

Must be new stock, no freebee unlock on VF, so will get code on eBay.

    Thanks OP.

    • which phone did you get price matched and where?

      • +3

        A G526 4G @ BigW

        • do you have a physical copy of the catalogue?

they won't price match unless i bring in a physical copy of the catalogue with this sale. not sure if there is a physical copy of it? they said they won't price match online deals.

        • I have the physical catalogue. Does BIGW has G526? And do you know anywhere else that do the price match for this Huawei phone?

  • Just got one at my local K-mart store. In the package, it also included a 8Gb micro sd card. Thanks.

    • +1

Mine didn't have the micro sd card :( It also didn't unlock for free. For the price though I am happy enough. Cost under $5 to unlock and I already had a micro sd.

      • Yeh mine didn't have a micro sd either, doesn't matter, no free unlock either. Maybe that is the combination, free unlock comes with micro sd card, no micro sd card no free unlock ? Where you get it unlocked for $5? How quick?

      • i thought he bought the Alcatel M pop, the huawei g526 never comes with a micro sd

  • which phone is the better out of the 2?

and do they have a front camera?
    it's for the missus lol

    • +4

For missus she may want famous brand SONY.

      • +2

Sony are a classier looking unit.

    • +6

Both have same, basic-spec dual cameras, with rear flash. Cameras will be ordinary, but ok. The Sony rear camera at least will be a bit less ordinary than the one in the Huawei.

Does your missus wear pants with pockets, or is she in the habit of using a very small handbag or purse?
Biggest differences are screen-size and weight.
Sony only has a 4 inch screen - 4.5 on the Huawei. Quite a noticeable difference in use, but the Sony is considerably smaller and lighter, if that's more important to her.

The Huawei has 4G, and wider 3G band compatibility.
Is your wife on Vodafone? The Huawei is a known quantity as far as being easy and cheap to unlock to use on another network. Indications are that the Sony won't be as cheap and easy to unlock.

Hope that helps you to decide.

Thanks a lot for your help Tas!

      • Is that suitable with Vaya network after unlock Huawei G526?I want to update my plan $18/month but its for 4G

        • Yes, fine for your Vaya 4G plan.

  • I just came to my local store, they said they just got stocks in for Desire 310 and Sony M just today. G526 just sold out. So I guess we should come back on Thursday since stocks will possibly be in for the sales.

    • I wouldn't assume that, given that this looks like a clearance of a couple of perfectly good last year's models.

      • +1

given that this looks like a clearance of a couple of perfectly good last year's models

        That is exactly the case.

Vodafone are simply moving stock and using Kmart as an agent. This promotion really has nothing to do with Kmart.

See my comment on the first page to understand better.

  • Any body tried to price match with bigw by an a4 print catalogue or show them pdf version? My nearest kmart only have sony m , not huawei g526 any more? I dont have catalogue from kmart .

    • +1

they told me i would need the actual physical catalogue and not a printout from the net.

      • +1

Go to local K Mart and get a catalogue then go to Big W.

    • You should call customer service number 1800…. they will give you more detail which store near you the stock is available

  • +1

I gave my local k-mart a call, they only have the xperia m in stock (one left) and they said they'll put it on the side for me until tomorrow morning. Question is would it be good for video calling and calling? As It's for my mum and what kind of sd card would it need?

    • Should be fine for video calling… it is a powerful phone (the G526) but it will depend on signal strength / your location if you intend using mobile data for the video call.
It uses a micro sd card. Get a CL10 one if you can. I have a CL4 speed one in mine and it works fine but 32G CL10 micro sd cards are only a couple of dollars more. Try Shopping Express for micro sd cards.

Purchased a Huawei G526 from K-mart Stanhope Gardens. Unfortunately didn't get a free unlock from Vodafone. Probably newer stock. Also saw 3 Sony xperia m in stock if anyone is interested.

  • +2

Got one with price match at Big W.
I showed him the K Mart catalogue.
If you don't have the catalogue then get one from your local K Mart.
Someone else got a price match at Big W according to Whirlpool G526 thread.
Assistant was not too happy about it when I picked it up… so what :-(
When I called he said he had a few in stock but when I got there they had been removed from display. Might be setting them aside for his mates?
No free unlock with this one… Voda site comes up with pay $25 comment.. :-(

    • I went to altona shopping centre ,vic today but only have old catalogue :(

      • +4

refused price match at my bigw then watched him remove all g526 from display :(

    • I checked sony m , its said $25 to unlock , not free :(

      • Is it still good price even if $25 added for unlocking? I guess it is.

        • G526 unlock from Bagman is much cheaper.. $5.49. You get an email with your code in about 12 - 24 hours… excluding weekends.

        • I bought xperia M. Does he do it?

        • Nope

        • +1

Some G526 (including mine) can be unlocked for FREE through the Vodafone website

  • +3

Confirmed price matched with BigW by showing catalogue from phone.
No free unlock from vodafone website.

  • Can anyone confirm if the g526 will work on optus / virgin ?

    • @ahoyhoy
yes posting this on my tethered woolies mobile ;) (optus network)

      • Thanks snappy1234 I've got a 4 year old s2 and was thinking up getting one. Might just be a step sideways though

    • +1

Yes, when unlocked the G526 will work on all carriers. We use Amaysim (optus network).

  • manage to score 2x Huawei G526 from KMart Knox this morning. Both won't unlock from Voda's website. Anyone unlock this with Bagman yet? if Bagman can do it for this model I will just pay to get it unlock today. He is awfully silent in this.

    • +1

      @ bs-a

this is the UK mob who did mine (took around a day approx)
      http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/mnz.technologies.ltd

Current cost is GBP 2.39 (28 may 2014)

      • thx. will give them a go

        • +1

Bagman does the G526… waiting on my code now.

        • cost?? still $5.50 each??

        • +1

It was $5.49 Got the code about 16 hours later.

    • Did you get the last ones? Are there any left?

      • nope I grab the last 2. sorry. lady told me she just put the 2 into the cabinet not 5 mins before I walked in

    • How much you paid? Why I found a sign in my local Kmart, this is $79.50 until 29/May (rather than starts from 29/May)?

      • hmmm no sign just verbally half price. I looked again, was charge @89.50. Damn I have been ripped off. I'll go back tomorrow morning to get my $20 back. That would pay for the unlock cost

        • most kmart are selling it on the price of $89.50. I paid $89.50 for my G526 too.

        • I tried showing a photo of that sign in my local Kmart.

After ringing around and asking the manager, they refused to price match as they said it is a geographically targeted promotion.

Ended up paying $89.50 as per the promotional catalogue price.

      • Would you mind to post your receipt so I can bring to Kmart store now :)thank a lot

        • Try the picture I uploaded in the first page.

Just got a call from my local K Mart (2285) to say they received stock of the G526. They received a whole 2 !!

BTW… anyone after a fast micro sd card for this phone there is a good special on Kingston CL10 32G cards for $22 delivered from Shopping Express.
    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/kingston-32gb-microsdh…

Adding a micro sd is worthwhile with the G526 as it allows you to move most apps to it freeing up the phone.

    • can you tell me how to move apps onto sd card? i cant manage to move any app on my g526 even after rooting

  • +1

Just picked up Huawei G526 at Anzac Highway SA.

    ** Happy Dance **

  • 1 left @ keysborough. they had none yesterday so pays to recheck today

  • +1

K-Mart Minto restocked this morning. They too received a grand total of two G526 (like K-Mart 2285) and I bought one for Mum. There are six Xperia M available.

  • +1

Got one G526 from KMART joondalup. They only had 2. Plenty of Xperia M though .

  • +2

bagman is good for unlocking the G526 for me….

    • +1

      ditto :-)

  • Is G526 dual sim?
Can any one that purchased confirm this.

    • G526 has only 1 SIM slot.

      • Thanks.
Any way I'll still get one even if it's single sim.

        • HTC is dual sim

  • I went to K-mart in Tuggeranong (ACT) last night after seeing this discussion, and the Vodafone cupboard was almost bare; just two Xperia M's, a low-end Galaxy and a USB dongle.

Happened to be in Tuggeranong tonight for something else, so thought I'd check again, expecting to be disappointed again, but…… lots of stuff in the Vodafone cupboard this time, including one G526. It scanned up at $89.50, but I got it for $79.50 after pointing out the sign on the top of the Vodafone cupboard which said $79.50 until the 29th of May.

Downside….. lucked out on the free unlock, but I'm not too fussed at this point, because I'm going to be using it on Vodafone anyway.

    • That's frustrating cos I rang them late afternoon and the girl said they had no stock. Grrrrrrr…..

      • post edited

  • Bought sony from Kmart using paypass %5 off.

  • From the experiences of many people here, it seems that many stores have sold out, or are stocking extremely limited quantities, in relation to the mobile phone catalogue promotion, despite the fact that the promotion hasn't even technically started yet (it's still the 28th)! I don't know about you, but this all seems very much like a bait-and-switch strategy to me. Last time I checked, that's not legal.

They had virtually no stock at Kmart in Pagewood, NSW, the night before the promotion is meant to start. 2 handsets of one of the cheaper Vodafone prepaid models were the only things in the Vodafone cabinet. And this is in a busy store, the night before an advertised nationwide sale!

I asked a staff member there, who suggested that stock wouldn't be coming in for several weeks. I spoke to a manger there too, and asked if they would be getting stock in. He said this was unlikely. I explained to the manager that Kmart has a responsibility to stock sufficient quantities in major stores when something has been advertised in a nationwide catalogue. I explained that I would be contacting Kmart head office and the ACCC. The manager on duty did not care, and tried to speculate as to why the store might not have stock (customs hold up? really, dude?).

I tried to call other stores; none answered the phone. I asked the staff at Kmart Pagewood, while I was there, if other stores had stock of any of the phones, but they were unwilling to help me check it out.

If anyone here has had similar experiences, please contact Kmart head office and the ACCC / your fair trading ombudsman. It only takes a few minutes.

    • It's probably worth noting as well that all the phones from providers other than Vodafone, none of which were subject to heavy discounting in the catalogue (p.30 vs p.31), just so happened to be in stock. It was only the heavily discounted Vodafone prepaid handsets which they had none of.

      Bait and switch, much?

      • Yes, I think something is very dodgy with this promotion and yes, I do agree with you that potentially someone is breaking the law here as far as misleading advertising.

They do say however in the catalogue that "stock varies by store" so I guess that covers their backside.

Also, keep in mind that, as per my post on the first page, this is not a promotion run by Kmart. It is a promotion Vodafone run and they are simply using Kmart as an agent to move stock.

All phones come from Vodafone directly and not from the Kmart distribution centre.

    • Did you try Marrickville? I'm not sure if they have Huawei but bought sony from them tonight.

    • The whole "sale" seems to be something setup by Voda and K Mart Head Office with no info passed to the poor sales staff and management at the stores?
It is odd that Voda sent their own staff around to all the stores to personally set up their little 50% sign and the list of phones discounted?
I don't think it is a bait and switch from K Mart, to me it seems like the sale comes from the Voda think-tank??
If that is the case then why only K Mart, why not Big W and DSE who retail the same Voda prepaid phones?
The sale has a while to go yet so all those that are still waiting to get one can do is sit it out and see if stocks are provided later?
The whole thing is strange and makes no sense. Those that manage to score from it will be smiling :-)

      • The whole "sale" seems to be something setup by Voda and K Mart Head Office with no info passed to the poor sales staff and management at the stores

It's not "seem to be". It IS! :)

This is a Vodafone promotion and they are simply using Kmart as an agent to move stock. Kmart is basically selling these phone on consignment.

  • I just managed to price match 1 Huawei g526 @big w mirrabooka WA after showing the Kmart catalogue . But no more left .
Does anyone knows if we can do price match in other store like target …? I'm very keen to buy one more. Thanks

    • Our local Target and DSE both refused to price match. Our Big W did it though… reluctantly :-)

  • Tried target, they had stock refused to price match.

    • BigW will do it, I just got price match from my local BigW this morning for $79.5, see my post at the top of the first page.

  • +1

Went to Kmart Noarlunga yesterday and wouldn't sell me one so back this morning and got one. Will see how it goes on Optus. Have to get it unlocked. Still $199 Dick smiths.

    • $179 at Voda online, $159 every day at Big W.

  • sweet. thank you!

  • Just price matched a G526 at big w top ryde, with catalog. Looked like there was 2 left in the display case.

  • Just bought G526 from Innaloo, WA. Seemed like they had a few left

  • Picked up one at mandurah WA 1 left on show
    G526

  • Tried to price match big w MacArthur chambers, they saw me coming, said that Kmart is not in competition with them as it is a whole 5 minutes drive away in toowong. No dice.

    • I tried this too and was rejected by them based on Kmart not been a direct competitor as there is not one located nearby. Still picked one up from Toombul that afternoon so no real loss.

  • Got one (with one left) Stockland Caloundra…75 to unlock by Voda website…off to the less expensive unlocker haha

    • It's $25 for me, but I probably won't need it anyway.

    • EDIT: was the Huawei G526 :)

  • I got one from Kmart Toombul QLD none yesterday, only one today.
no unlock & no micro SD card.
what does the pre paid sim have?

    • You want to connect with Vodafone?
Unlock from bagman and check shopping express for a good deal on micro sd cards…
