but it's 79% worse for the forced Samsung bloatware. Disabled, becomes enabled with any updates.

      • -8

Samsung software is 10000 times better than whatever pixels have but this is your echo chamber so enjoy it. It's different in the real world.

        • what? what? what? what?

          oh you're right

          • -4

@M00Cow: I know. Pixel fanboys are the worst kind of fanboys.
It’s 2025 and we still taking ‘bloatware’ and ‘clean’ interface

            • +2

@nikoris: bloatware & clean interfaces are important to some people.

Not sure I'd call myself a fanboi. I've bad a few Sammy's over the years (s+, Note 4, s8, s20 fe), but I really hate all the apps forced on you (which I'll call bloatware). WTF do I have to have Facebook installed? Let alone all the Samsung apps, which you can't uninstall. You can disable them, but after an update, they get re-enabled. I prefer the Samsung app draw, camera app.

            • +1

@nikoris: lol you fanboys are so stupid.
Pixel Phones can install GrapheneOS. That alone makes them much better and more secure than any Samsung.

      • You're mostly correct, but it doesn't enable itself if you remove it with ADB.

        • -1

then according to Samsung you void the warranty

      • -1

Google stock UI and feature set blows, but keep telling yourself that.

        • -1

year they do blow Samsung's away. As i said above I like Samsung's app draw & camera app.

But after dealing with a warranty claim in a Samsung 5 series watch, I wouldn't want to deal with them ever again.

Have a look.at my series of comments in this thread. They're just disgraceful to deal with. After producing a tax invoice from Amazon, apparently that's not proof of purchase, and then demanding proof that it was actually delivered to.my address.

Pixel cameras are better than lower mid range Samsung A series models

      • +1

My a55's camera is absolute trash compared to the pixel 4 I came from. Especially in clutch moments like award assemblies etc. Everything else: fine. Camera: the only reason I'm looking at upgrades.

    • +2

Besides flagship models, do Samsung photos ever really live up to their hardware specs?

I moved away from samsung after finding they never took good photos despite having good hardware, and then back away from iphone as it didn't feel like the experience lived up to the price tag.

I am now hoping to find a Pixel 9 around $600

    • +1

Based on my estimates, your comment is 98.67% pointless, arbitrary machine-generated nonsense.

  • Better of buying a pixel 8 rather than 9a.

  • -8

    As always, hodl proving itself

    • -2

of course tech gets cheaper in time .. better to pay more and get early

      • -1

better to pay more and get early

Lol why. Also, hodl doesn't mean years where something like a Pixel 7 goes for $200. Hodl implies within narrow windows of time, it'll likely fall to its true price.

        • -2

tech will be dead before you buy .. always buy on release with best discounts, then sell/trade just before next release .. enjoy the latest gear

          • @matt-ozb:

tech will be dead before you buy

LMAO the only dead here are like people who bought the Pixel 9 Pro Fold for $2499 before JB Hi-Fi $0 port-in'd it 😂😂😂

      • Appreciate your service in paying a premium to beta-test new tech for the rest of us.

How often do you replace your state of the art tech and what do you do with the item being replaced?

  • JB Hifi also has it on sale for $597 atm: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-9a-5g-128gb-…

    • +8

A $59.80 gift card is better than saving $1

      • -4

Must have rocks in the head to buy from JB.

      • +3

        But a $59.80 HN gift card??? 🤷

      • +2

Yeah, but it's buying from the cockroach. Would rather just buy the phone elsewhere and pick up a case that I actually want, rather than the limited options on offer.

  • +1

Great price. Shame I already bought one 2 months ago.

    • No shame, sham.

  • +17

Gift card only valid for 1 month. These predatory bonus gift card practices basically only worth it if you have something you already wanted to buy from HN

    • +1

      Ottabox screen protector and case.

    • +1

You could buy something generic with it (e.g., power boards, extension cables, other types of cables idk) and just treat it as a less-than-face-value discount (since you're not gonna get best-price doing that). At least that way you're not sucked into spending an hour trying to figure out how to use the gift card.

    • +1

what do you expect from gerry?

      • +3

Why support him in the first place?

    • sell it here? eg classifieds.

  • Pay with Latitude 36 months plan for an extra bonus gift card. That one is valid for 3 yrs I think. Chatted and called up HN and they told me they stack.

    • Wouldn’t that hit your credit rating?

    • How much is the extra gift card?

      • +1

        $50 in this case.

    • If youre spending within the limits of the latitude card and paying within correct time periods you already have then no?

  • +1

Missing a 0 on the gift card

    • +4

Missing a 0 on the gift card

Sure thing, mate. Just tell them I sent you and they will do a $59.800 discount instead of the standard $59.80.

  • I have no use for this other than the "Add Me" feature… wish Samsung or some other third party would find a way to add this feature to modern phones (and acheive similar quality).

  • +1

    Storage in title pls

  • +5

    128GB.

Pixel 7 256GB $249 at Telstra should still have stock in store, I just installed GrapheneOS on the one I picked up.

    • +4

Correct. Spend less, get less. Many people don't install 3rd party ROMs and rely on official software updates.

Issues like overheating have been mentioned in the past for the Pixel 7

      • -1

Where will 128GB end up in terms of 2032 OS and apps?

    • -1

      Pixel 7 is too large.

      • Is it not almost the exact same size as the 9a except for the camera bump?

      • +4
Model Height (mm) Width (mm) Thickness (mm)
        Pixel 7 155.6 73.2 8.7
        Pixel 9a 154.7 73.3 8.9
        • You guys are correct, they are almost the same size.

Got it confused with Pixel 8, which is smaller.

IMO, even small differences at these sizes might be a problem; it is the difference between it sticking out of your pocket or not.

  • +1

How is this phone double the price of my g86 power I just got, when it's worse in nearly every way? 🤔

    • +1

Looks like a good phone - how do you find the camera output? I've been burned by phones with good camera hardware but poor actual results

  • ah bugger, just got one from google store for $599 a month ago not opened lol

  • Can this be price matched with the Google store?

  • +1
