  • Any information other than the RRP on the headphones??

    • "Kids" = cheap and nasty.

Post says this can be used for recharge - just checking this is correct?

    • I would like to know as well.

    • Safest way is to get a $2 Telstra prepaid SIM

You can activate without recharging so it only costs $2, then port to your new Boost SIM

      • I tried porting to an Aldi $2 Sim but during the Sim activation process it asks me to purchase and pay for a PAYG plan which is $15 minimum. How can I port to a ALDI $2 Sim without purchasing a plan so that I can port back in to another provider?

        • Might not be possible. Seems only Telstra allows you to activate a SIM without recharging from what others have posted so you can port back Strait away.

If you port to somewhere else, best thing to do is use up the credit then port back to Boost.

I usually try to purchase from somewhere that offers a discounted 1 month sim from another provider, use that for a month then port back to Boost.

I've just ported my partner to AmaySim on the PAYG plan which also requires $15 credit on activation. We're heading overseas soon though so I'm going to leave it on that then port back to Boost on return as we don't use roaming overseas and you can still receive SMS without roaming which is all you need for any authentication codes etc.

    • According to some posts I've seen, you can get on to Boosts chat and ask a rep to recharge your current service using these, however I'm pretty sure I also saw a post from someone who said they refused to do a recharge for them. So, I think it can either be hit and miss depending on who you talk to, or they may be clamping down on allowing you to do it seeing these are meant to be starter packs for new customers.

In my many years of using Boost I've always just ported out and back in. A few places selling the discounted SIMs bundle a cheap starter sim from another network so you can port out for a month to get the value out of the extra SIM then port back in, or as spaij mentions, get a $2 starter SIM to port out and straight back in without recharging.

I remember the days when it was $150 for these SIMs, now they just bundle way more data than you'll need and bump up the prices.

  • Gee Boost is getting so expensive!

  • Why this expensive plan when there are better vodofone, amaysim, boost offers right now on ozbargain.

    Ex:

    * https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/931722

    • Boost uses the full telstra retail network unlike the two you mentioned, but yeah I wouldn't consider $240 for this a bargain even considering the aliexpress headphones

      • Just got an email saying that they won't include 5G SA in some plans. Some Telstra customers had received a similar thing though: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3rvvjqql

        5G Standalone Rollout

Telstra is rolling out 5G Standalone - an advanced evolution of 5G technology. Your current plan won't include access to 5G standalone, but your existing coverage remains unchanged. This means:

You'll continue to have access to 5G in areas currently available to you.
In new 5G (Standalone) only areas, you will have access to 4G.

as an existing Boost yearly prepaid customer, can I confirm something please for those that have done this before.

I spoke to the boost chat team who flat out say I cannot renew at the cheaper price as that is only for new customers. So I am left with having to port off and back on.

Please note I want to retain my existing boost phone number

    So :

    1) buy a new temporary cheap sim (telstra $2 or a woolies/aldi sim). Q > Is it better to buy a cheap sim that is NOT on Telstra network - or does it not matter?
    2) activate cheap sim. Q > Do i get the option of porting my boost number during the activation process? This is the bit im most unclear about.
    3) buy boost yearly prepaid simcard (e.g like the one in this deal for $240)
    4) activate new boost card and request port from the cheap simcard (which i assume has retained my original phone number)

    thanks!

      1) Yes. Doesn't matter. 2) Yes. Yes, will give you the option to port your exiting number or setup a new one. 3) Correct. 4) Correct.

Before you port just make sure all your contact details with Boost are correct as they will be checked during the process, so ensures there are no issues during the process.

  • great - thank you so much

  • At the Boost deals I always see the porting out porting in thing. Is this only to keep your number or does all excisting Boost customers have to do that? I don´t mind getting a new number. But i´m using Boost atm. Can I get the plan?

    • +1

Yep. They only give a discount to new customers, so have to port out and in to keep your number. It's annoying, but they obviously bank on people not bothering to go through the process.

Would be nice to see loyalty discounts instead of new customer discounts, but it's the same with ISPs etc. too. New customers get all the discounts

  • Thanks, it works!
