  • any good cases?

  • Impressive price for the G526, works on all networks with the UMTS 850/900/2100 bands, if you can't unlock at www.vodafone.com.au/unlock - for free, go

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Huawei-Unlock-Code-Ascend-G526-G3…

Sure it won't be too hard to pricematch :)

    • I used these guys and within 24 hours I had a valid unlock code back via email through eBay.

  • Saw a G526 on the shelf at Charlestown Big W today if anyone around there is looking for one… not sure if they will price match?
Lucky that Big W has stock as not many K Marts do :-)

  • I just placed an unlock order by this guy who unlocked my last Huawei.

What is with these Huawei wall chargers though? My last one made a high pitched squeal on charging and this one does it too. Usually when charging is complete.

    • So does mine. Dunno why. I think a lit of the cheap Chinese chargers do this.

Got a raincheck yesterday from Kmart for a G526, so they DO issue them for mobiles.

    • I got a raincheck from them last week also but they stated that they don't "normally" do it for prepaid phones. Good if you can get one :-)

    • Do they contact you when they have it in store? or do you have to keep checking?

Got one G526 from Kmart Parramatta last night. They had 20 more left!

    • +1

      They had 20 more left!

Sounds like their #2 key was a bit dicky in the Parra ordering dept :)(most other stores has just 2 going by peoples experiences on here)

    • Wow 20.

I realise that it's a $2 saving over bagman, but he is a much safer option.

You will almost certainly get some very nasty spam emails from that ebay seller - with 'Unsubscribe from these emails' links that you do NOT want to click - or things will get much worse.

If you get the spam, just 'mark' it as spam.

      • Plus easy refund if problem. Worth the extra couple of bucks.

Gee you must have been unlucky in the past…but i have never had a problem with spam etc from sellers like Bagman or any others, sounds like bullsh*t i would like to know if you are affiliated with someone.
        anyway have a nice day.

        • +1

Wow. You have got to be kidding me?

Apart from the nasty implication, you are clearly (and cluelessly) unaware of the significance of your own comment higher in the thread.
Bulgaria, along with Romania and former mother Russia are scam hubs that rival bloody Nigeria.

I have bought about a hundred items from Ebay in the last year. If you use Gmail or other highly filtered email for your Ebay/Paypal emails you may never even see some or any of the spam that I know (absolutely) originates one way or the other from some Ebay sellers. I actually avoid Gmail for anything financial, because I have found their spam filters to be just a little too 'good' at times, so I just let the crap either go directly to my spam folder or deal, when I encounter it, with the stuff that actually makes into my inbox.

I have no association with Bagman. I recommended him (your lousy wording seemed to imply the opposite) because - just like huge numbers of others on here - I have found his service to be straightforward and free of any drama.

The phone I had previously unlocked was done by a Russian-based unlocker-site that also, probably, still has an Ebay presence under one name or another. Spam email duly arrived. I was suspicious where others might not have been about the 'Unsubscribe' link. Googled and discovered the multiple 'confirmation, you're a sucker' forum posts about the full-on spam assault that awaited the people who actually clicked the link.

I was just trying to reduce the chances of anybody on Ozbargain experiencing similar grief.
Thanks for wasting some of my time first thing in the morning.
Feel free to not have a nice day, snappy.

Wow Tas take it easy… i have used bagman in the past too- don't take it so personally, anyway i apologise if that is what you care about.( the internet makes me more sceptical is why)

What may have made me take your post more seriously(at the time) if you had recanted the story about your past trouble that you only touched on…anyway can't change history.

Also just an FYI i used the same guy that xDEFiNE used earlier in the thread- quick and cheap
          for anyone wondering :)

I buy code from Bagman to unlock few times already. He really kind. Recommended you guys to unlock from him. I thinks these day ,he ll get hundreds people ask for unlock, so it ll take long time to get the code, that s why i do from the guy on ebay.

      • Had 2 done by bagman recently… both took about 12 hours. A+

      • Absolutely recommend him too

    • Wondering if unlocking from other places than vodafone voids the warranty?

      • +2

        Definitely not.

Furthermore, the warranty is from the phone manufacturer. Not vodafone.

        • Thanks ginmi

  • Where do you copy music too on external SD for play music app to find it? I dont want to fill up internal.
Or can you make external SD default instead of internal?

edit: found setting /storage allows you to toggle default storage from internal to external.

    I got a Huawei G526.

Their customer service just confirmed that I couldn't use password with special characters, such as @ and such for Wifi on this phone.

This is a good information for those intended to use the handset where you can't change the Wifi password to suit this phone.

    Cheers

    • I have special characters for my wifi password… no problem.
I am assuming that you mean the password for your home wifi?

      • It's for work.

I would just change the password to use the wifi if it is at home.

My works password nvolved @ _ and such. I asked this to the customer service and they told me this.

        • Supermarket sales people would normally not know about that.

Have you actually tried to create a password using the symbol @ & _ ??

The phone keyboard can type all the symbols…

Got one from Sunnybank Kmart, only one there. Cant believe the Chibargainers didnt beat me to it.

  • Just got one from Big W Forest Hill Chase (Melb), price matched. Very helpful sales person, asked all the appropriate questions and then told me that he had price matched one yesterday.
It did not unlock on the Voda site so I has asked Bag Man for a price for the code.
Looks like a nice handset. It's for my son and he is a bit gobsmacked by the size after his iPhone.

  • I bought Xperia M and unlocked SIM at Vodafone. I have made attempt to root it. I found it's impossible to do so as the bootloader cannot be unlocked. If you open the hidden menu, you will find that the bootloader is set unlock not allowed. If you are trying to install custom rom, it's not the right phone.

  • Went to BigW Canberra Centre and got a lame cop-out - we don't price match %off sales. I tried to explain that the item is clearly and explicitely advertised in the catalogue but he wouldn't budge. BigW head office is about to cop it for failing to implement their own price match policy.

So I've had my Huawei G526 for a few days now, and sort of wish I hadn't got it !!

It does have a reproducible "Bug"……….

Select make-a-Quick-dial contact, assign it, and then make a second one.

Drag one on top of another to create a "Folder".

Make another Quick-Dial contact and add it to that folder.

    Re-name the folder "Calls".

Repeat for three Quick-Texts, rename THAT folder "TEXT".

Within a day you will go to select one of those folders to make a call or TXT and it disappears in front of your eyes :o :o !!

But that's NOT the reason I'm thinking I'm regretting the purchase.

I have a HTC Desire HD that's just about dead and am hanging out for the HTC One (M8) 32Gb Version.

This "Cheap-And-Nasty" 'phone seemed a reasonable stop-gap measure for a couple of months.

Problem is now, I don't think that I can convince myself that the M8 is going to be eight or nine times BETTER than this "Cheapie" !!!

It probably wouldn't win any "Official" seal-of-approval bench-marks, but seriously, for a sub-$90 'phone it's embarrassing just how good it is !!!

    • I kinda have the same thought process as you do.
I bought a G526 for my son and had a play with it. It's pretty impressive. The OS seemed pretty fluid, and what bloatware Huawei has installed seemed less intrusive than on other phones, and actually quite useful.
Then on the weekend, when I was having lunch with my brother, he mentioned that if I ever want to sell my Nex5, let him know (he has a phablet and finally admitted he doesn't like it). The thought of having a Huawei do almost as much as my Nex, and have 4G, for under $100 is kinda tempting to a cheap bastard like me.
If someone knows of a CM11 Nightly for the G526, lemme know. That could be the clincher.
Plus, I just know that when the Nex6 (or Silver, or whatever) hits the market, I am going to want one of those, anyway. Ditto for the Oneplus One.

No stock KMart Kurralta Park or Marion, South Australia. Sigh. Checked Broadway NSW again on Friday - no stock.

    • marion has G526

  • Successful price matched g526 at Big W parkmore shopping center, the guy was confusing and needed to ask some other guys. But it was all fine after. Heaps of stock !!!

  • No stock of the Huawei or Sony at the Robina, Pacific Fair or Southpprt Kmarts.

    • Thanks, saved me a trip.

  • I rang around some Kmart and Big W WA stores today for the G526. None available anywhere. I went to Dick Smith and they had it at a special price of $199. They wouldn't price match as it was below cost price. I proceeded to Target which had it for $160 and they price matched it.

I went into Big W and actually saw it in stock! So don't take their word for it over the phone.

    • Which target price matched? Need to get one for my daughter . Thanks

      • Target told me they don't price match electronic goods

        • I wonder what the official Target policy is on this. Someone at Greensborough told us they don't price match phones. A guy at Northland said they only price match if both stores are advertising that product at the same time. Seems it depends on who you get.

I'm so glad I managed to pick up my G526 early on (Kmart Aiport West).

      • Sorry late reply, it was price matched at Midland Target but Big W had one also

  • got 2 of these this morning from Kmart waurn Ponds at $79.50 each would only sell one per id lucky my wife was there aswell.

    • -1

Di u say you are keen to sell one? I am looking for one for my teenager if you want to sell. Thanks

      • +1

sorry they have been put in cupboard for a rainy day

  • I have been to target( glen) and dick smith( knox). …, no one wants to price match:(

    • Maybe ask to speak to the manager of that section at Target and say a 'friend' successfully price matched at 'another' Target store, why can't they do it? Might be worth a shot? Maybe I was just lucky although the lady I spoke to was really nice (and cute).

3 G526 available at Helensvale Qld KMart Monday 09-06 10 am if anyone is interested.

  • Just wondering if anyone has had any trouble unlocking their G526 - especially those who had the $75 quote to unlock from the Vodafone site.

I have a G526 here that came up with $25 to unlock on the site (Service Fee $50, New Phone $0.00, Online discount -$25.00). I unlocked it without a problem via an ebay seller.

I have another one that I purchased for my mum on the weekend and when I checked Vodafone it came up with $75 to unlock (Service Fee $50, New Phone $50.00, Online discount -$25.00). So I'm assuming this is newer stock.

Will I still be able to unlock this (via ebay seller or bagman)?

      @ chichi

Will I still be able to unlock this (via ebay seller or bagman)?

Of course YMMV but a few of us came up with the $75 quote…so Bagman etc should be fine

      • Cheers snappy. Unlocked now via the same ebay seller.

    • +2

My G526 was also $75 on the Vodafone site, I paid about $4.00 from an eBay guy (allegedly) in the UK.

The response wasn't "immediate", but considering the time difference, more than quick enough for me to be very satisfied :)

As snappy1234 said, YMMV, but I was 110% happy with the service !

      • This guy mobunlockingmaster? I received a valid unlock code in 7 hours. Vodafone also wanted $75 for my phone.

I was going to ask bagman, but you can't blame me for chasing a lower price from an eBay seller with good rating, can you?

      • Thanks Buyer and alvian for your replies. Unlocked now via ebay.

  • 2 G526 left at Minto Marketplace in NSW

    • Oh, not two units left but two units restocked. There were none left on Monday.

  • Incase anyone is looking for one, I just got one at same price at knox kmart. They just had new stock in and honouring published price at last sale.

  • I meant the huawel G 526

Picked up one the VF Extreme MiNi WiFi for $29.95 and it's actually unlocked from VF. Using it right now with a Telstra SIM. I know it's not 4G and all that, but the 3GB of VF data and a really good 2.0A USB charger makes it worth 30 bucks to me.

Also picked up another G526 and when checking on VF site, it is not in their database, which normally means they will give code for free in a week or so.

    • +1

That's a good pick-up for you, and worth mentioning to others.

People tend to forget the 'bonus' when you get one of these wi-fi hotpots for cheap.
All tend to have high mAh batteries, and even if you barely use the modem you're getting a decent high output (1.5 or 2 Amp) charger to boot - one that you can also use for other things.

You also got an 'unlocked' bonus!

      • Yes, the charger is the same I got with my Huawei Mediapad 7 Lite, use it for everything, so good to have a proper spare now.

      • Yeah, SMS today with info for free code for G526 on VF site.

  • +1

It looks like re-stocks are happening - there are ~ 4 G526's at Kurralta Park [SA] atm if anyone in Adelaide was still wanting one.
