It should now be autumn in Japan, so unfotunately you have to wait till spring to see them.

Around the tourist spots of Kyoto or Tokyo Sakura blossoming usually starts around the first week of April. I have had to wait for the arrival in late March, but there's so much to see. So these flight dates are of no use & it's a slow way to get to Japan.
Japan is about 3000km long, so choose an area to find likely dates. (Check the map above.) But it depends on the weather, location & altitude. NHK News on SBS shows the weather maps & seasonal views. Plenty of suggestions for best viewing spots on Japanese sites.
Go for the Spring blossoms or Autumn change of foliage colour. These flights will suit the change of colour. I was in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto) region September - October last year for rice harvest & festivals. November is best for Autumn viewing & avoids the typhoons I experienced up to late October.
Always spectacular, and popular with the locals - so book your accommodation. I've followed the Sakura from Kyushu to Hokkaido one memorable journey. Locals will say the blossoms make them sad, because like all life, it is short.
I'm looking for a well priced flight to Tokyo in April, to explore the mountains well north of there.

I convinced myself to take another 6 week holiday in April 15. $416 return Starter fare from Cairns to Tokyo with Jetstar.
My japanese friends used to tell me to start in the south and chase the cherry blossoms north till you see them fall
suggest adding "one-way" in title.
Tested a few outside holiday period.. from both Mel and Syd.
All rip off prices for budget airline..
Jetstar is a better choice now, there is a direct flight from Melbourne to Tokyo!

Always best to subscribe to get best deal. Even then it's often almost impossible.
Is Air Asia pleasant to fly?
On par with jetstar but heaps cheaper and spam stickers all over the bulkheads and tray tables etc with their latest offerings and specials.
Just bought a $590 return fare for next year during the mega sale, saw this and had a heart attack before realising it was one-way.

"No booking fee when you pay with PayPal". There was discussion in the past about whether your free credit card Travel Insurance would still apply if the flight was bought thru PayPal. Did anyone hear a definitive answer?

Much faster direct flights. Usually more chance of a seat. I've flown Jetstar to Japan many times for around $400 return carry-on from Cairns & GC :-)
