Is this call credit or $value?

To trade in a fully working Samsung S5 I will get $203 credit.. How is this a bargain?

    • +2

Yes exactly, I'd be happy to take the $450 but keep my phone or else what's the point (unless they will get me an iPhone 6 haha). Hell they can just cover the fee to break an existing contract.

      • Wouldn't you just give them an old phone?

        edit, I see now.

$15 for iphone 3GS 16gb, can get more on ebay, and CASH not credit

The phone values are ridiculously low … basically this promo is just $200 to break your existing contract. Any and all phones that I have checked could be sold for more or more value if passed on to another family member.

  • +2

you guys really didnt expect to get what your phone was really worth did you?

    • Yes silly us for thinking we could get even close to the value of our phones…

      • no company will give you any where close to what you could make selling it on ebay or gumtree otherwise wheres the profit for them.

        • Yea well we can dream :)

Not a bargain at all. Even with 450 would not cover the cost to pay for my early exit fee.

$130 for my old iPhone 4S is a little bit tempting, but Optus service in my area has been atrocious and the attitude of their customer service department has been not much better.

After moving here we were told that the poor coverage was due to a metal phone case (the case was plastic) and that we were holding the phone wrong. Then they then told us it was congestion and that "technicians are aware of the problem". We were also told that because we had moved from the area that we'd joined Optus that their service level agreement no longer applied.

My partner sent her phone back and got out of her contract but as I had 2 months left I waited it out then switched to a Telstra BYO plan. I still receive $0.00 bill notifications from Optus via SMS every month.

Apparently a new 4G tower is being built here but it might be a long time before I ever go back to Optus.

    • I understand your issues but as posted this is an issue you have with coverage nothing to do with the deal. So really your vote is wrong. ALL carriers have some black spots with coverage, on your reasoning, then all telco deals can be voted down. Its this deal NOT the telco you are voting on.

I dont think its much of a deal and given others trade in values I wouldn't even consider the deal. As such I agree with MMCS's post

Geez… Its not a sell your phone to us promotion.. Its a hand over your recent phone to us and get some credit that you can't cash out and pay off your old provider.. But you will be stuck with a $100s bill that you need to pay up within a month.. But hey the optus credit is great.. Sound of crickets chirping… Come on people… Start lining up..

  • and if you are in Brisbane, there is no compensation component to make up for transferring to a very inferior network.

  • Well done optus, mention this to Vodafone and they will waive the last six months of contract. Hello Iphone 6.

  • According to their FAQ it might be possible to get more than $250 credit for the phone:

Can I get more than $450 credit?
Yes. If your existing mobile handset is very new, it could be worth over $250 credit when you trade in depending on model and condition. We will not cap this amount and will pay you whatever your device is worth. You can check your phone’s value and trade in online at optus.com.au/tradein

  • wat a joke, note 3 for <$300!! Also they wont even take my note 2 lol!

I read their T&C, says they will ask for a final bill to find out exact penalty you paid and then they will decide to proceed with your claim and they only going to give you claim of what you paid to another carrier.

    I don't think it's deal at all.

You didn't think Optus or any other company to be exact to just hand over free money? If there's a deal, of course they are gonna ask for proof you switched from another carrier to them.
