The Family Energy Rebate (FER) helps NSW family households with dependant children to pay their electricity bills.
In 2014-2015 the Family Energy Rebate gives eligible households a $150 credit on their electricity bill.
If you live in a residential community (caravan or mobile home park), the 2014-2015 Family Energy Rebate is $165.

To be eligible for the 2014-2015 NSW Family Energy Rebate, you must:

  • Be a NSW resident; and
  • Have been assessed by the Federal Department of Human Services (DHS) as being eligible for the Family Tax Benefit (FTB) A or B at any time during the 2013-2014 financial year, and have received an FTB payment in respect of that eligibility; and
  • Be an account holder of an electricity retailer, or a long-term resident of a residential community (caravan or mobile home park), whose name appears on the electricity account for supply to her or his principal place of residence.

The application submission deadline is Midnight 16 June 2015. More details on the Family Energy Rebate website.

    • Yeah I had too. I was going through an old electricity bill and saw last year's credit which reminded me

    This is pretty good, was it published in the public?

    I wonder if Jessica knows about this?

    • I'm guessing Jessica is what we're calling jv now?

      • Is JV a Jessica now?

      • Jessica?

          A true Aussie battler struggling with life, hope she knows about this.

        • omg, thanks Turd, I have not seen that before! Jessica… $200k+/yr and struggling… Poor princess. I can't even think of words to use in a public forum :-(

          @Turd:

          Jesus Christ, for $5k/mo in childcare she could hire a fulltime nanny and save money!

    You got me really excited until i saw NSW :-(

    I think we may be eligible. Never heard of it before, but pretty certain we get both FTB A and B. Checking with the CFO.

    i am all for people saving money but this is not a deal as such. if every one posted a government entitlement it would never end. I think this belongs in a forum. a deal is something that is available to majority of the public not just people who receive government benefits. lets make the baby bonus a deal too then. this does not make sense to me as a deal.

    • Agreed.

    • +10

      Couldn't disagree more dlakers3peat. There's been plenty of deals posted here that aren't available to the majority. Whilst this offer will not benefit everyone, it will obviously help a lot of people, so why should it be 'hidden' amongst the forums?

      • +1

        but how is it a deal. its just a government entitlement like school kids bonus.

        • +3

          You get school kids bonus or Family tax benifit automatically and don't have to apply. For this one, you have to apply and get the rebate.

        • +5

          I guess at the end of the day, it comes down to community perception. At the moment, your comment is receiving disagreement, so registered users believe this is a deal, and not a forum topic. If just 50 families can save $150 because of this post, then I feel it's a great deal. Don't you agree?

        • just because you have to fill out another government form still does not make it a deal. the process for approval still goes through the department of human services, they same people who determine your eligibility for family tax benefit. its just more red tape.

        • +2

          I think it comes down to lack of knowledge; everyone know's about the school kids bonus per se yet this one is rather uncommon. There's often though a blurred line between certain deals and in the end I think most people are more than happy for this to be on the front page if it's going to save a fair few house holds in need X income.

        • +1

          there is absolutely nothing wrong with that but I am of the opinion this is not what should constitute a deal or a bargain. government entitlements are not deals.

          @dlakers3peat:
          Simple solution. Report it to the mods, and let them decide.

        • @tightarse: Troll….
          Same thing happens for free gold games for xbox. If you like it see it else move on…

          @dlakers3peat:

          OzBargain has filters that you can use to hide different types of deals/stores/users. Use them if you have a problem. Otherwise, no need to troll a post that will benefit the community. In my opinion posts like these are too hard to find in the forums and many families would miss out on a genuine entitlement.

        • +2

          @Gaggy: it's worth posting, I didn't know about it and I am sure most others aren't, but why isn't it just factored in? What I mean is, who doesn't have electricity for FS?

        • @Jackson: True. I applied for the first year and then forgot in second. Applied again this year. You will always find trolls :)

        I find these rebates are a blatant example of Robin Hooding by the government. Some people (the poor ones who for what ever reason earn less money) get "helped" - but this help comes directly from people like me (don't earn allot from any given source but work long and hard in multiple jobs / roles / positions) - My thanks for a 7 day roster is higher taxes (wealth tax, argh - I'm classed as "wealthy" because I work more than 1 job) and luxury car tax (my car is a a freaken mazda wagon and I paid LCT - not sure what planet this is), land tax (I use my money in after tax dollars to buy more than 1 house and I get smacked for this), a lesser heath care rebate (the governments way of saying thanks to me for having more than 1 job) etc etc etc This type of government re distribution of wealth make me cranky.

        • Can't complain about the land tax, Australia is one of the best places on earth when it comes to breaks for property investors.

    • I agree with you.

    • I think its a positive thing to post, these entitlements are not properly advertise/marketed, I print these off to give to my mum to give to her friends who would not know about it.

    I'm glad it was posted as a deal otherwise I never would've known about it, thanks OP. Just wish I knew about it a couple of years ago…

  • I posted this deal in the forums a couple of months back, it got 0+. So posting here is great, thanks.
    (BTW) The credit one receives on their electricity bill is from a GST rebate, so its not a cash back.

      Not sure what you mean. To clarify for others, last year's $125 credit was taken off the total at the end of my AGL electricity bill so I had to pay $125 less that quarter.

    This is not a deal, as it is not available to everyone.

  • Thanks OP, no good for me, but will be letting the daughter know.

  • Good deal OP, i wish i can get it here.

    The reason why electricity prices are increasing at such a frightening rate (20% here in QLD per year) is because governments here and in other Western nations insist on erecting expensive, inefficient, ugly, bird & bat slaying eco-crucifixes. We had enough energy generation capacity before ecofascism became cool, but the governemnt and the greedy capitalists who work for them keep on building even more expensive, unnecessary energy infrastructure simply for ideological reasons.

    Environmentalists should all be nailed to the blades of their beloved 'dedicated-to-Gaia' eco-crucifixes.

    There would be need need for these rebates if the fools running the asylum were not forcing us to waste limited government resources on renewables. And it gives us a competitive disadvantage because energy intensive industries like mining and manufacturing have to pay far more for their power than they do in China et al.

  • Thanks I totally forgot as well..thank you for posting as you probably have reminded quite a few people and if hour entitled to a gov payment why not claim it ..$$$ is tight these days especially with hideous electricity prices..
