Vinomofo Black Market Shiraz 94pts $90/Case + Shipping

40

Vinomofo has some Black Label specials starting today. The best value appears to be this 2011 McLaren Vale Shiraz. It has 94pts from Halliday and at a price of $7.50 a bottle ($90 a case), it is a great bargain for everyday wine to have on hand.

I will try to do some searching around to see if I can uncover what the label actually is, but they're not giving too much away.

If you haven't ordered from Vinomofo before, remember there is a $25 signup credit if you use a referral (please use my referral or the random one that hopefully appears here).
$90case - $25credit +$9 shipping = $74case delivered, or only $6.17 a bottle!! 94 points from Halliday!!

my money is on the Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2011

Spends 18 months in French oak (10% new). Has excellent colour for the vintage, McLaren vale doing it once again; there is a cool climate-like spicy/peppery edge to the ripe black fruits of the palate, the tannins supple, the oak integrated. One of the best wines of this difficult vintage. Rating 94 - Drink by 2021, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2013)

      Vinomofo: 2020
      Mitolo: 2-6 years (Bottling Date January 2013 + 6 years = max jan 2019)

    • I'm not sure what the shiraz is like but the 2011 cab sav I can't give the stuff away it is that bad.

Send it back if you don't like it, the VinoMofo guarantee works well, I've sent a couple back recently.

        • Thanks will do that next time.

Bad year for that part of the world, and other reviewers have rated in the high 80s. Still, with 94 from Halliday you'd expect a decent drop for your $7.50 :)

New Black Market mixed case looks pretty decent! http://vinomofo.com/deals/mixed-case/black-market-mixed-pack…

    • All, I can confirm this as my order arrived.

  • interesting. I suspect it to be the 2011 Richard Hamilton Shiraz. Vinomofo have offered it before as a Black Market special for $10. It does match the 94 points from Halliday too.

the clue is in the link. no promises that this is the same wine as my bargain though.

RRP as at 22/08/13: $20 direct from producer, this deal is $25

  • Looks like the GM of VinoMofo threats haven't stopped these sort of posts…

My guess is the Jester too, good match on RRP, alcohol level.

    • the GM is an idiot. Anyone who buys the deal can then reveal what they had purchased even if they don't know before hand, they can't really stop that. If they don't want people to guess, then don't release descriptions, rrp, points etc - they want people to guess it, I would say they leak the names from time to time.

    • what is the backstory to this? I haven't seen anything about threats from vinomofo.

        • pfft. ozbargain made their site, based on speculation of what these black market wines are. selling wine on the internet is not a new or novel idea.

@fox81: I guess they could cancel your membership if you contravened their Terms if they had a mind to.

        • @Sweet3st:
They could, but they probably won't. It would be easy enough to set up another account (self, family member, friend) or get the emails forwarded by a friend. All you need is a fake name and non-identifying email to get on the mailing list. But you and they would miss out on the sales unless you got someone else to buy for you.

I mostly don't post identified deals outside of my private forum as there is an element of truth in that wineries may be reluctant to sell through VM if the details are publicised. Some wineries seem unaware of how easy it is to identify many of the deals, given that VM want to provide enough info to make the wine an enticing buy. But some keep coming back even though they know public identification is happening, eg Hewitson have had a heap of "secret" deals quickly identified, including the Shiraz Mataro 2012 most recently.

        • @redbigot: Could you tell what the private forum is?
