CELEBRATE15

To celebrate eBay's 15% deal yesterday from 10am we have decided to reduce our prices on ebay by a further 15% today only. Remember to enter eBay's 15% off coupon code 'CELEBRATE15'

This means you can get our Voll B44 Bookshelf Speakers for $83.06 which is an insane price considering similar speakers sell for US$80 in the US.

If you haven't heard about our speakers look at some of the older deals on Ozbargain to find out more. At $85 shipped I challenge anyone to find a better pair of passive speakers for the price.

We are also taking 7% off Topping TP22 and TP23 amplifiers. TP22 will be about $90 shipped after discounts.

As our eBay account is new there are limits to what we are able to sell but there should be at least 40 pairs of speakers available.

For information on our speakers see below or voll.com.au/shop/b44

  • Hi rep, can I power these with my headphone amp/DAC (Aune T1)?

    http://en.auneaudio.com/html/en_products/NewDesign/T-Series/…

    • You will need an amplifier between the DAC and the Voll B44 speakers (our speakers are passive which means they don't have an internal amplifier). I would recommend the Topping TP22 that we sell or a good cheaper option is the SMSL SA-50

  • Bought this set of speakers when they first arrived.

I'm not an audiophile, so I can't go into the technicalities. I bought them to use with a Lepai LP-2020A+ that I purchased from Amazon. I use them with my 2nd TV, HTPC, radio etc in my smaller rumpus area.

Like the size of the speakers, looks good. As described, it is good for near field desktop listening, stereo bedroom listening or as part of a surround sound setup. I have a set of JMax speakers that I use with my main HTPC setup and you can tell that the JMax is definitely fuller on the low frequencies. Might use the Volls as surround speakers with main HTPC and move the back JMax to the rumpus just to get that fuller range.

Can't comment much about the sound quality from audiophile's POV, but can definitely commend them for their great service. Kept us informed about shipping delays and was very fast to respond to my email queries.

I bought them for $95, and the OZBargainer in me wished I got them for $84.95! Don't think you can go wrong at that price.

So 5 paragaphs later, not once sentence about whether you actually like listening to them?

      • +2

You are right, about 5 paragraphs later there is not once sentence about whether I actually like listening to them hey.

  • Rep do you stock amplifiers that have dual outputs, say so I can have inside and outside speakers with a switch to have both or just one area playing?

    • +1

No sorry. I can't think of any T-AMPs that have that functionality either. You'd probably be best off finding a decent second hand stereo amplifier that has A+B speaker outputs good brands are NAD, technics etc..

  • any passive sound bars?

  • +1

I bought these last time they came up. Couple of thoughts:

    • They're functionally identical to my Micca MB42X's - see the (glowing) reviews on Amazon to get an idea of how good they are.

    • You can get them delivered from the Voll website for $100, so their stated regular eBay price of $115 seems a bit cheeky. But still great pieces of kit for $85.

    • +1

It does seem a bit cheeky but it's purely because we'd much prefer customers buy from our website to avoid fees. We dropped the price to the same as the Voll site for tomorrows promotion so people could take advantage of the 15% off deal eBay is doing :)

Lucky I had my search alert setup for B44 as I didn't see this on front page, will be ordering one in the morning! Thanks OP!

  • Will the tp22 be able to connect to a plasma tv - it does seem to have the basic left right av connecting holes. Just wanted to double check

    • As long as your TV has RCA audio out (pretty much all TVs I have seen have this so you should be fine).

      • Not quite. A lot of newer TVs (eg. Panasonic plasmas) only have optical out.

        • Fair enough - you'd better check your TV for RCA outputs gawky just to be sure.

        • @chiefbodge: thanks for the reply.

  • These speakers at this price are a great bargain. Very happy with the ones I bought and if anyone I know is looking for small speakers then this is the direction I'll point them.

  • TP22 seems to be no longer being sold in the ebay page.

  • So I've been researching most of the day deciding whether or not to get these. I'll be upgrading from a cheapo 2.1 system and I think I understand most of this now. I'm trying to decide between going with the TP22 and TP23. I'll be using it with the computer and to my understanding, the TP22 can be made to work with the PC using a Coaxial/TOSlink -> RCA connection? Whilst the TP23 has a USB connection which seems a bit more convenient. Granted the TP22 has 2 sets of inputs, so it could be more versatile in the long run which seems to be better value.

So, basically unsure if something like using the TP22 with the PC that way is correct, and that TP23 is just convenience I suppose. Thanks for the help!

      Hi Dior,

The TP22 has two RCA inputs - you wont be able to go from Coaxial/Toslink as they are digital and RCA is analogue. You will be able to go from your computers 3.5mm line out or headphones jack into the RCA inputs of the TP22 with a 3.5mm headphone jack to 2x RCA cable.

The TP23 has an integrated USB DAC (essentially a sound card) which completely bypasses your computers internal sound card. This is great for avoiding most potential sources of noise / interference.

      To sum up:

The TP22 is a more powerful amplifier and can be connected to other sources such as TVs/mobile phones (anything that has analogue line out or headphones jack).

The TP23 is great for easy and low noise connection to a computer - no extra cables are needed apart from some speaker wire from the amp to the Voll B44s.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

      • AH that explains it. Yeah I was somewhat confused seeing those cables Coaxial to RCA, around because then somehow there's a conversion that happens mid-cable which didn't make much sense to me.

That said, if I want to utilise the DAC/amp for my headphones as well, I'll need to look for another DAC with that functionality?

Another question, regarding using mobile/mp3 players through a DAC. The device has it's own inbuilt DAC which gets fed into another DAC, what benefit do we get from that? Is it mostly so we can interface with other peripherals?

Thanks again, this is really helpful.

        • +1

You wont be able to use mobile/mp3 players through a DAC unless they have a digital output such as toslink and your dac has a toslink input. Most phones/mp3 players don't have digital outputs and you would connect them directly to the TP22 via a headphone jack to 2x rca cable.

There are some good DAC/headphone amps combined out there so you might be best off getting one of those and then going from your dac/headphone amp into the TP22.

You can also get AMP/DAC/Headphone amp all in one such as the Topping TP32EX which is a damn good amp in my opinion.

        • @chiefbodge: Alright, got it, thank you very much for the help. For now I'll order the speakers and look around for the DAC. Excited for this haha.

Didn't realise the eBay sale went until midnight tonight. I have re-enabled the sale for anyone who missed out yesterday.

  • Hi Rep, Does the purchase come with speaker cables & plugs? If not, is there any way you may combine a purchase of cables & plugs with the speakers on eBay?

P.S. You may want to extend the sale timeframe again until midnight tomorrow (Tuesday) to suit the new eBay deadline.

    • +1

The speakers don't come with cables or banana plugs. If you like you can purchase the cable and banana plugs from our website and we will combine the order for you. We don't list these items on eBay because of fees.

Thanks for the tip regarding the sale deadline. Will extend it until tomorrow.

  • Rep, what speaker wire and connection do you between the tp22 and b44?

I used some normal speaker wire, but pretty thick. When I turn the tp22 on however i'm getting screeching noises.

i do have the tp22 sitting on top of one of the speakers.

    • The speaker wire between the TP22 and B44's should be 17AWG or thicker but it isn't really too important and wouldn't be causing screeching noises.

Do the noises happen when there's no cables plugged into the the inputs at the back? If they do then you may have a faulty amp and you'll need to email [email protected] and we'll sort out a replacement (It would help if you could take a recording of the sound as well). If it only happens when a source is plugged in check your source cables and your source (if using a computer try a mobile phone instead to isolate the problem etc.).

      • Does it matter that the speaker wire is too thick to fit in the small horizontal holes on both the speakers and tp22?

        • If your wire is too thick to fit in the hole in the binding post it's definitely overkill and you can get away with much thinner wire. You can use wire that thick but it would be a good idea to trim it so it fits. On the TP22 especially as there's not a lot of room you want to be carefull that bare wire isn't touching the case or another terminal but at the same time you need to make sure you haven't inserted insulated wire under the screw/nut as that would prevent the bare wire from making a connection.

Not sure what you mean by horizontal - just so we're on the same page here is a diagram of where bare wire needs to be inserted:
