Hire an apartment, much better value than hotels and authentic. We used Vacation in Paris and it was great. 6 nights for about $1,100, apartment exactly as described in photos etc, free wifi and eat and drink cheaply via local supermarkets and restaurants. I would go with the Marais area, safe, trendy and close to everything you would want to see.
