Jetstar International Flights Recommendation ?

Hi there guys,

Me and a group of 4 others are planning to travel to ho chi minh vietnam mid jan 2015, and i was wondering whether to take jetstar, which is considerably cheaper then the nearest competent airline (qantas). Just wondering if any of you guys have flown with jetstar to ho chi minh before and what the flight experience was like? Also if flights cancel, how helpful are jetstar?

Thanks in advance.

A few years ago my wife and I did Melbourne to HCMC via Singapore with Jetstar. It was considerably cheaper than the full service carriers at the time. The overall flight experience was pleasant and the seats were comfortable enough for the near 10hrs flying time. Even flying between various cities throughout Vietnam (HCMC, Danang, Hanoi) with Jetstar we were fortunate not to have experienced any flight cancellations. Delays are a different story, at nearly every leg of our trip we were departing fairly on time give or take 10 minutes or so. We thought we were on a good run, our local mates told us inter-city flights are always delayed by more than 30minutes even up to an hour. Low and behold our luck ran out on our last leg from Hanoi back to HCMC. Our flight was delayed for 3 and a half hours.
Jetstar was a fairly straight forward experience and they did update us during our long-delayed flight. But ymmv as this was a few years ago now.

    • Cheers for that. It seems with these low budget airlines it is hit and miss. With the flight delays and cancellation would/did they compensate you if you missed your connecting flight? Cheers.

If you can find it cheaper on airasia I would recommend that and just stay at the tune hotel for like $50 a night (two people per room) then fly out the next day.. that way you have provided a buffer for flight delays. If time is an issue then just risk it for the biscuit I guess..

    • Funnily enough, the cheapest deal was Melbourne to HO chi Minh for $416 (28hs) with jetstar, and so we got the next best at $433 in 12 hours. We ended up getting that $433 flight. Let's hope Jetstar don't fail us this time..

We travelled to Singapore mid August. I am 80% sure qantas passengers were on the same flight but got their meals earlier. BIG DEAL

    • Qantas passengers on a jetstar flight? Geewhiz

Air Asia is usually cheapest if you can put up with the stopover at LCCT Kuala Lumpur. On the other hand, if you want quality service at a fair price with a generous baggage allowance, go Vietnam Airlines: best Asian airline I've used.
