ANZ Qantas Frequent Flyer Charged Annual Fee When Advised $0 Annual Fee For First Year

Here is the short story, I signed up for the Anz Frequeny Flyer card over the phone on the 26th of August the last day that the offer was valid for no annual fee for the first year and 50,000 points, over the phone I was advised there would be no annual fee and that on the 27th of August the offer would change and include the 50,000 points but you'd have to pay the annual fee.

I check my credit card statement and I've been charged the annual fee, I rang the credit card department and they say there is no annual fee waiver on my account and the deal was only on the platinum card, sounded like the consultant hadn't even heard of the credit card offer either.

What is the best way to get this annual fee reversed?

  • I don't think I ever received the terms and conditions for the card but I've requested the welcome pack again, does anyone have them as that wayback website doesn't have any saved pages from July, August or around that period.

  • Call them back and ask to hear the recording?

  • I'm not sure they let you hear the recording, they've escalated the call and someone else is meant to call me back within 48 business days.

  • The exact thing has happened to me. I have called them and are waiting for a response. Will let you know when i hear anything

    • I called them and complained to the call centre member and he said there was no waiver on my account and pretty much didn't know what he was talking about, they escalated the call to their complaints team. When the complaints team called back they said they were refunding the fee, they obviously screwed up and listened to the phone call.
