Moving from Brisbane to Melbourne - best/cheapest way to move?

Hi all,

My partner and I will be moving to Melbourne in 1 month (we found out yesterday - I'm moving for a new job) and need to arrange to move our possessions from Brisbane to Melbourne.

I suspect back-loading would be the best option as 1) I understand it's the cheapest way?; and 2) we are buying most of the furniture down there anyway (+ driving down with our clothes in the car) so there isn't much urgency time-wise - happy to wait longer if it means saving $.

What are people's experiences with backloading? How much should I expect to pay? Any companies that we should consider? Any to avoid?

Cheers

  • i moved from Albury to Bris using back loading. we had furniture and stuff. probably 2 small truck loads in size. cost just under $3000. that was 6 years ago. it was an albury company. best thing to do is to guestimate the cubic metres and start asking for quotes.

  • Depending on what you have, it might work out cheaper to sell and rebuy down there.

  • get one of those movable 'PODS'
