Telstra sent wrong iPhone

Hi OzB's,

Preordered iPhone 6, Telstra sent me iPhone 6 Plus.

Rang Telstra to ask for correct phone.

They said they they would send me a return envelop in which I could return the phone. But I would have to wait for them to receive it before they would send me my phone.

Now it could be a long time before they sent me the right phone.

A few things:

  1. I ordered it online, so I don't have to go to a store or a post office to collect it. So is it unreasonable for me to argue that I shouldn't have to take the return envelop to a shop or post office to send it back.

  2. I pre-ordered the phone so I could get it on the release day. Is is unreasonable for my to be upset if I have to wait 2.. possibly 3 weeks for the right phone.

  3. Is it unreasonable for me to ask them to send me the correct phone, and when I get it i'll return the wrong one?

  4. Is it bad that I've been using the plus and kind of like it, and hope that they don't follow up? Are they gonna take back a phone thats been used?

Thanks for your responses in advance.

Since you've already opened it and used it… Why didn't you notice the difference in model before opening it and before you notified them.

    I doubt they'll be happy…

I knew the iPhone 6 was bigger than my iPhone 4… but did't think about it when I opened it up and set it up.

I did surprise me that it was soooo big. Upon further investigation I realised is was the plus!.

There 'word' plus was only written in small letters on the back of the box… nowhere else.

I'm not fussed if they're happy or not. They made the mistake, wasn't my fault.

I gave my old phone away already, and only have the plus ATM.

Did you get charged extra for the plus? If not don't send it back, bonus!

    • Haven't been charged yet, but I've got the contract saying iPhone 6, not plus.

  • Try not to drop it or scratch it too badly.

    • It's pretty slippery!!!

'Seamless curved edges' and all that…

  • Is it bad that I've been using the plus and kind of like it, and hope that they don't follow up?

    lol aww

If the contract is for an iPhone 6, which means Telstra will be charging you the price of an iPhone 6, and you are beginning to like the iPhone 6 plus, why not just keep the plus. It's a win-win - presumably, Telstra will prefer not to have to send out a new iPhone in exchange for a used one, and you are getting a phone which costs more, as well as avoiding all the hassles of exchange.

Hi you should just keep it and sell it. The plus a going for a very high premium, then just use the money to buy a iphone 6 outright and you probably can pocket a few hundred dollars for the transaction.

As much as you may want to keep it; there'll be a HUGE issue if you need to make a warranty/insurance claim as those are applied to the IMEI of the phone written on your contract.

    • no, not really. still under apple warranty. doesnt matter its on contract or not.

Make sure all your communications with telstra are in writing/emails… and please, whatever you do, don't sell the phone. Its not yours. Try to negotiate with them..

  • Hmm, I've got the opposite problem. I got an iPhone 6 128Gb Space Grey when I ordered an iPhone 6 Plus 128Gb Space Grey. I'm pretty bummed out. Haven't opened it yet either and am currently in contact with Telstra to hopefully get the phone I ordered asap. I hope you do the right thing too

  • Sooo… after a lot of mucking around and putting in a complaint (and realising that they've put me on the plus plan).

They returned me to the correct plan. Sent me the correct phone……..

But haven't asked for the plus back!!!

    We'll see what happens.

    • Presumably you send the phone you havnt paid for back (at their expense even) but do let us know how you handle this ethical dilemma.

    • Ha ha. It will start the nightmare to you on the billing!
Last time, I've ordered the iphone 5, they have delivery issue, they try to resent me one with a lot of mucking around. Finally got the phone.
Then they're mucking me around with the billing issue again. talk to them over 10 times, online + phones, sales + Billing+ debt chasing, take me 5 months to settling down.
      Good Luck!
