I went into snooze to get my current mattress and used the bed match machine, aka science to help choose my mattress. I learned a lot during the process too such as the fact that our body loses all posture during sleep and we rely on that mattress underneath to keep us in alignment.
Granted I am not on the cheapest mattress but science must be right as my back and neck are much better than before!
I recently purchased a frame from Beds Online - they had just opened their brand new store in Sydney (parramatta/homebush area). Disregard website prices; give them a call and ask for best prices - I got $159 off on a Bosaso Queen Bed frame (paid $450 free shipping/assembly.) Surely they have margin on their mattresses also. Worth a try!
Recommend you going to these stores and try first .

There's so many shapes and sizes and variables such as stiffness, expected longevity, price range, etc.
A mattress that's good for one person may not be good for another.
It might be best to actually go to the specialty shops that have them out on display and try some out yourself, then come up with a list of the things that really matter to you most. Just keep in mind that you will be spending about a third of your life on whichever one you decide to buy!
Once you can narrow down a list of actual mattresses with model numbers and get approximate prices, then you can start shopping around for the cheapest price for those.
