  • are you certain it works with the 20% off though? from what I read does not apply with any other offer, and I imagine 10$ off RRP is a catalogue offer ..

    • it's 20% off the ticketed price. so aslong as it shows up $49 in store then it should work.
Destiny had a special introductory price and it worked with the coupon.

  • Voucher doesn't work on pre orders so you can only get extra 20% off when it releases on 4/10

  • How much is the Wii U version?

If you register both versions you will get the Soundtrack for free.

    Considering it…

Is there any difference between the other Super smash bros games (N64, wii) that makes it worth getting?

    • It's the first version in HD and lots more characters, upgraded moves

      • Play as a Mii Character
      • More characters
      • More stages
      • Megaman
      • Free Soundtrack (in CD form)
      • Customise moves
      • Did I mention Megaman?
        • More game modes
    • Please tell me you are joking

It's a fair enough question. The gameplay mechanics are very much the same, was playing N64 smash the other day and when you strip away the flashy shebangs the core is the same - it's a bunch of dudes with some attacks pitted against each other.

What do you get though is some graphic improvements, new characters and some new toys to play with (in the same way that Mario Kart and Pokemon are different from their predecessors, although in saying that X/Y was arguably a big step for it).

So while some may see the upgrade as not really worth it, it would be wrong to say you're not going to get anything new out of the purchase.

This is the answer I was looking for. Thankyou

      • The game play mechanics are not even close to being the same compared to the 64 version. A very very casual player may think so but A LOT has changed since then. some graphic improvements? new characters… yes from 12 to 50 is not a big deal right? All the new modes, online play, trophies new items, assist trophies, smash attacks, final smashes, smash run, street pass, all the new mii fighting modes, all the custom move sets, classic mode, new bosses I can go on for a long time but I will not bother.

"A very very casual player"… sorry I have to disagree. There have been plenty of improvements, but for many people Brawl in essence is a fun party game. I may have been a bit loose with the term "mechanics" my apologies; although we can talk all day about wavedashing, L cancelling etc etc but the game at it's core as I have said has remained the same. There are many differences which differentiate each one in the series, but Hirokuro's original question "makes it worth getting" I don't think is relevant to those things.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to downplay the assist trophies, final smashes (less a fan of smash run, but yeh), and especially all the awesome new characters. Merely highlighting the fact the game which we know and love has stayed the same in many components (which is a good thing) but has also evolved and changed (for better or worse).

its on 3ds.. thats one of the biggest differences

Let's just put it this way.

Yes. Super Smash Brothers 4 is different to Super Smash Brothers on N64… I… I can't believe I had to explain that.

For anyone wondering about the JB Hi-Fi Voucher

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/music/jb-now-free-trial/

EDIT: Seems the voucher is only valid for one week after receiving it?

    • Yeah correct

      • Yeah I realised after I received the voucher…SSB won't be out for over a week.

    • Actually JB lies. Everyone receives the SAME voucher - and it's valid for more than a week as well. You can print off and re-use it again and again (and it's been valid since 14 August I believe). It's the exact same barcode for everyone.

  • Sooo getting this! Wahoo!

  • Does anyone know if the 20% off voucher works on Nintendo eShop cards? Are they classified as 'games'? Smash Bros is the kinda game I'd love to have with me all the time without having to carry around a case of game cartridges like a 10 year old in 1997.

      Read the T&C's…

"Codes may not be used to purchase gift cards, prepaid cards or products or services which JB Hi-Fi sells as agent such as Telstra phone plans or Foxtel services."

For the purposes of this Section, "Eligible Goods" means:
      Recorded music compact discs;
Recorded music, film or TV DVDs or Blu-Ray discs; and
Recorded computer game discs or game console discs

  • Just got my voucher. Thanks OP

So, has anyone managed to get a copy and get the 20% off? Or better still, pricematched to Target?

    • +1

In case anyone was wondering, it redeemed fine with the voucher image posted above, no issues whatsoever (Perth CBD).

      • Today? The voucher above does say one-time use. Is it actually?

        • I think it was posted above that the voucher is a generic one with no expiry date. The checkout chick just scanned the voucher and deducted the 20% off with no issues.
Although, I would go to another JB if I wanted to use the voucher again, just in case (not an issue seeing that there's 3 in the Perth CBD itself).

      • In case anyone was wondering, it redeemed fine with the voucher image posted above, no issues whatsoever

What was the total you paid?

      • Same, I just used the image posted in the Perth CBD store as well. I must have bought mine after you, cause the lady said oh your using one of those as well like someone had already done the exact same thing :P Ozbarginers Assemble!

        EDIT: I payed $39.20

      • Thanks for the feedback. Off grab a copy at my local JB tomorrow…

edit: Anyone tried price matching the Target $59 Wii-U games yet + use JB 20% off coupon to bring it down to $47.2? Would love a copy of either Hyrule Warriors/SM3DW/DKC:TF for under $50.

        • That's an interesting combo. Let us know how you go.

    • Yep also used the same voucher as posted, which I printed off today. Was expecting it to not go through…but was surprised it did. Went to the Rockingham store with no issues.

    • I can confirm I did this today at the Brisbane store in MacArthur Central so I paid $35.20.

  • I also had no problem using the voucher. It's a generic code as stated by others.

  • Question to those that already bought a copy: Are the games cases sealed in plastic wrap?

Want to confirm if Nintendo AUS doesn't seal their own 1st party 3DS or Wii-U games. For all it's worth I know Nintendo Europe (UK) definitely does.

    • Mine was not wrapped. They got the manual and game cartridge from the cabinet behind the counter.

      • Was this at JB? I know Kmart/BigW/Target does this.

        • It was at JB. I got the opened box from the shelf and proceeded to the counter.

    • Unsealed, however they did store the game and other booklets in individual slips of plastic pockets.

In fact, they never received any shrink-wrapped copies of the game at all.

  • For those who cared, I pricematched Target's price of $44, then used the 20% off voucher.

That brought the total to $35.20, but because I had a $10 giftcard from cokerewards,
I paid $25.20 for the game.

    Win!

    • i tried pricematching and using the 20% voucher for another game, but they wouldnt have any of it.
was only allowed to do either one of them. 20% off was the cheapest. what was the trick?

      • I said that I called the same store the day before (which I actually did) to confirm I could actually do this.

Maybe call to confirm the combination of both voucher and pricematch?

  • Anyone tried buying 2x 3DS games in one transaction for $70.4 (pm'd+vchr)? The voucher states max $100 spend.

    • Bit of a late reply but I successfully purchased two copies of Smash in one trasaction with the voucher (no price match). The total would've been 2 x 49 = $98 before applying discount, so that's under the $100 spend limit.

  • Just a note can still sign up for JB HIFI NOW trial, and Brawl still priced at $49
