I'm pretty sure there is no LTE variant of the Moto G (2014) yet. The Motorola website only lists up to HSPA+
My bad, you're right. If a mod is reading this, could they edit it to avoid confusion?
The Moto G 2 doesn't have 4g yet. So pretty much the only benefit you get is a 5 inch screen.

Moto G LTE, model number XT1039 is 4.5 inches.
What about the Zenfone 6? It's not very high spec, only a 720p display and running an Intel dual core, but it is extremely cheap at around $230 and has a 6 inch display.
Another one you could consider is a Redmi Note and it is sort of a semi-decent device (MTK Octa core, 3200mah battery).

What provider are you going to use? What about one of their prepaids?Its a gift, i dont know which provider they going to stick with.
You can get the iPhone 6 for nothing on a 24 month contract!

I just got a Samsung GS3(4G) from virgin @ 32 per month….. (and the kicker from going outright was the Bonus extra 2GB of data per month)
So I went from $20 per month and 1.2GB to $32 thus $288 for the phone and I get 1GB more data and a 2 Year Warranty..
am i missing something or wouldnt the sony xperia z be the best phone under $300 ?

it's a 5 inch screen and our family has three of them, all since when they were first released.
No problems at all, the crack issue is blown all out of proportion i think.
Our phones are heavily used every day, one is abused (teen son getting cranky and throwing it on the floor many times).

Didn't do research on the cheapest price for it, but it is a fantastic budget 5 inch phone that has pretty much everything you would want.
