iPage.com's US $12 / Year Web Hosting (Includes a New "Classic" Domain)

20
BEEHIVE

It's to give you 1 year of "The iPage Essential Plan" (Web Hosting):

  1. It's US$ 1.00 / mon (to be paid in advance?); normal price: $1.68/mon
  2. If you sign-up via online chat, expect an "up-sell" pitch (3 yr / US$ 60.42); if you accept, be sure to setup acc't in US$ (NOTE: If you setup in Au$, they'll -want- to charge AU$ 106.20 / 3 yr)

Over 3 years, it averages to US$ 20.14 / yr = not bad value, incl a domain (must be renewed for 2nd & 3rd year, incr'g the average yearly-cost), ie, purchased in initial/chat contact.

Strangely, a rate table (monthly pricing, dated?) shows same numbers (per month) for both US$ & AU$ rates:

(You -won't- find the (1-off, intro) 12-mon or 3-yr deal pricing there)

Each is OK pricing, with $12 / year (deal) being better, of course.

Before you forget:

  1. Set Renew to "Manual" (or expect to be charged ~ $131.xx / yr, or maybe more, eg, if acc't is in AU$, don't ask me why…). AND - just to be sure, use Chat to ask how to preclude auto-renewals (if that's what you want), as there might be more than changing to "Manual" (!)

  2. use & enjoy your new domain & hosting service… over the 1 (or 3) year(s) paid for

  3. change status to "Do Not Renew Account"

  4. Login & visit:

  1. while there:
  • cancel your account, eg, via Chat (or by ringing).

If you see a higher price, you might need this link:

or maybe this one:

  • mailto:?subject=I'm Recommending a Special Offer from iPage&body=I discovered a special deal at iPage, and I thought you might be interested. It is only available at this link:%0D%0Dhttp://www.ipage.com/secret/%0D%0DYou'll need to enter a special coupon code of 'CustomerAppreciation' to access this exclusive offer. It isn't available anywhere else on their website.%0D%0DThis email was generated at http://www.ipage.com/secret/. It is a one-time email; you have not been added to a mailing list of any kind.

(Yes, it sends an eMail (I think..), so it might not work in all browsers…)

Let us know.

I'd say: Cheap for the first 1 (or 3) years; then, be ready to create a new account & get a new domain (or maybe transfer-in another of yours; check cost of doing so…)

  • If anyone planning on hosting a business website, best to host it in Australia

Keep in mind that http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group are using all the companies they own to spam offers

    • Your -reasons- for "best … in AU" please? (unanswered, as yet)

Is iPage.com in the "E.._I.._Group"? (Yes, seems so)

      TIA

PS Is there any -adverse- history / form associated with iPage.com ???

UPDATE: Parent company buys up lotsa similar companies?

      • BBB list 414 complaints in last 3 years (presumably from selling/hosting -lots- more domains, by 2 orders of magnitude), with an A- rating (2nd from top), today. (For such a big family of companies, I don't have enough info to fault 'em, yet.)

Were you suggesting they'd be spamming me, my site visitors or who?

      • Your visitors are able to load the site faster, (Ping time and lag). If it's a hobby site, it does not matter where it's hosted.
Yes iPage Is part of EIG.
Let say you have an account with them before and you stop hosting with them, they will send you offers every week until you join back again.

        • Like other online business, in the post-subscription period. I trust I can pursuade our mail system that their URL is a spam source, & all incoming's are to be sent to Spam box.

It's not a gaming site we have in mind, & we might find more interest overseas, so - if being located elsewhere helps speed it up for o'seas visitors… fine with us. ;-)

          HOWEVER…

          • Having "1-step auto-cancel" setting… (that I could set anytime - eg, on first accessing my cPanel for a new domain / service), but acts in time to preclude any/all future renewals)… would surely give any [eg Aussie] web hosting provider a real competitive edge, IMO. :-)
        • But why is AU-based hosting -always- better, by you?

Aussie businesses can do silly things, too… :-/

        • I just found out that iPage is scanning over WHOIS data and then sending this offer to owner email.

Yes, I have seen that a lot of owners want everything for a low cost.

        • +1

@Linkiepoo: Who on OzB -doesn't- want everything for low prices…? ;-)

  • Buyer beware:

    "Do Not Renew My Hosting

Your hosting service will not renew on ???day, month dd, 20yy.

    • I understand that additional charges for domain renewals or additional product and services renewals will still occur until the account is canceled. <== !!!

    • I approve that all content associated with this hosting account can be deleted from iPage's servers on ???day, month dd, 20yy.

    • I understand that by completely deleting the account, domains registered through iPage can not be renewed."

I'm beginning to see why it's good to have 1 acc't per domain & hosting plan - at least at iPage.com, where renewal costs are so much higher than initial plan costs.

This is a "sucky" industry, IMO… or seems so, at times.

PS If you cancel [early], expect to pay $15 to take your domain with you.

    • Best to not have your domain with your web hosting company as if you do anything wrong, they will disable hosting and take your domains. https://www.nutsandboltsmedia.com/why-you-shouldnt-register-…

This industry is harder for newcomers as the users want the cheapest as possible.
Not surprise one bit that they are charging you a fee to take it as they want you to stay.
You might want to have a look at: http://www.webhostingtalk.com

      • Good ones use more efficient (if proprietary) web server (LiteSpeed or LightSpeed?), instead of Apache.

I don't think there will be any fee, ie, if user/owner sets it for no renewal AND cancels the account, domain, etc. at right time…

To preclude unwanted fee collection, it is prudent to break any auto-pay links (in your PayPal account) with iPage, ie, -after- paying initial amount.
