Kingston 32GB MicroSD UHS-I Class 10 - Too Good to Be True?

Hi All,

Looking to get a MicroSD for a dashcam purchase (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162725) and forums that I've been reading is to go for Kingston or Transcend.

Needing your opinion on this deal from Oo.com.au —-> http://www.oo.com.au/Pack-of-2-Kingston-microSDHC-M_P241280C…

I've tried to compare the same SD card to other sites and retail stores and the price seems "too good to be true" as this deal is for a 2pk. Furthermore, it also appears that I can get another celebrate 10th birthday $10 off offer if I round the total up to $50.

The reason for asking if it's "too good to be true" is due to the cheap price (if I've done my homework correctly), and also reading about fakes?

Seems like reviews on Oo.com.au on the net show up as them being a legit site, but can't find info on whether the SD cards are legit?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Andy

Yeah, OO are ridgy-didge, just check out OzB, we all buy stuff off them all of the time…the Woodworm brollies are a fave! :)

    • Yes they are but I believe the OP may have misread it. From what I can see, the 2 pack refers to 1 micro sd card and 1 adaptor, meaning it is really expensive.

"Boost the capacity of your smartphone, tablet or digital camera with this high quality microSD High Speed 32GB memory card and adaptor 2 pack from Kingston."

If it is a dashcam all that is needed is a decent class 10 card, even a patriot would suffice.

I would personally get a Samsung Evo for around $19 to $25. It will come with the adaptor.

Yes, looking at the description it appears that you may indeed be correct…it's a bit misleading, so I can understand the OP's misinterpretation…good catch iampoor! :)

          :D half caught….

Thanks for the input, although it does state further down…

        Package Contents

        2 x Kingston microSDHC Cards - 32GB each
        2 x Kingston SD Adaptors

So this would be on par with the Samsung Evo you've mentioned, each.

Only reason I've looked at Kingston is due to people on dashcamtalk recommending this brand to be proven to work well with the A118 dashcam (as well as Transcend).

        • Good catch…I didn't scroll down all the way. They are fairly similar in that they are both class 10 and uhs 1, meaning it meets the minimum standards (think its about 10mb/s min read/write)

Read some reviews which recommended the Samsung Evo but I think for your purposes any class 10 is fine. If you don't need both I would just check staticice for the cheapest option…OO.com.au might be cheaper over a 2 unit basis but if you don't need both then…

  • For a dashcam any genuine cl10 card will be perfect.
I have run a cl4 in two dashcams for the past couple of years with no problem whatsoever.
Beware of memory cards from overseas suppliers… a lot are fakes, stick with genuine brands, Sandisk, Samsung, Transcend, Kingston, etc..
