10x50 Semi Coated Binoculars Escape Outdoors $50 down from $100 @ Ray's Outdoors

70

Hi guys,
I bought these binoculars via click and collect, local store had no stock so I received them via delivery (free) instead. I waited until I tested them to post the deal aware that the quality of binoculars varies.
I think these are excellent for the price. I am very happy with them.

How do they compare to these ones https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96151? Still have mine sitting in the box.

    • I wouldn't be in a rush to pull them out, mine were garbage.

      • Not sure what's wrong with your set but those Digitor Binocs were perfectly fine for me and at that price point, you cannot complain.

        • Collimation was miles out, not an issue but despite careful adjustment I could quite get the image right. There also seemed to be quite a bit of backlash in the focus. Maybe mine were just duds.

  • This ones are very good for the price. I used binos for work for years (army then consulting middle east) and these ones are very light and a great crisp focus. Semi coat is the big win as it seems to be at least an average quality which is surprising for the cost.

    • i wanted to get a good pair and i was considering Canon 10x30 or 12x36 IS II. what do you think, happy502 ? you seem to know more about binoculars than i do.

Obviously depends on what you intend doing with them but for most people I'd suggest a decent set of compact binos - buy quality once if you can afford it. From experience I can tell you you're far more likely to take them out of the drawer regularly than their big bazooka brothers which will usually get left behind because of size and weight.

You can spend a stack on binos but you can usually find a decent set at $200+.

A couple around the $300 mark which are excellent:
        Vanguard Endeavour ED 8x42
        Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD
I bought a pair of the Vanguards for $245 on ebay 12 months ago.

        • High definition(HD) binoculars now? Didn't know they came in 1080p.

      • Is there any chance of you trying before buying? They are brilliant units and both have their little differences. I couldn't recommend one over another as I am not sure what you would like more. You can't go wrong with either of them.
If you have quite steady hands you may not even need the image stabilising, although if you can afford it then it is a very nice feature.

  • $100 is about close to what brand name costs
