Not that I can help since I'm in Victoria, but I think it might have been helpful for you to post the model, year, and type of vehicle, and a bit better location than just the state…

    Where and what car?

Note it can be pricey which makes some people want to skip it. Depending on the if the belt snaps you're potentially up for thousands in repairs and you'll be sitting there wishing you changed it when you should've. Some cars however will be fine if the belt snaps but it's stupid to leave it anyway.

Get onto it mate - should your engine overheat due water pump issues, your engine head may warp and/or crack adding a few more expensive headaches to this problem.

If you do not change the timing belt, it could continue to function for quite a while.

But, once it goes, you will be stranded.

And, depending if it is a non-interference head, you may do damage to the pistons and to the head if it goes.

If it is a non-interference head, you will simply be stranded. If it is an interference head, you will be up for $$$$$$$ and stranded.

There is no way to determine if it is a non-interference head, except for searching the net. It simply depends on how it was designed by the manufacturer.

If it is an old bomb of a car, and you don't go far from home in it, and plan to run it into the ground, and don't mind being stranded, then I would just leave it.

      Hope that helps you.

      EDIT: misread

  • watch youtube and do it yourself

  • No. You will have to go overseas or import a specialist mechanic for that type of job
