SpinTel Has Increased Price by 30%, Please Help with Suggestions of Alternatives-BEWARE of their bumping plans!

Bellow is the body of the e-mail I received. They actually managed to get it wrong, currently, I also get Ultd National calls, therefore the monthly price would increase from $49.95 P/Month (20GB, unlimited local and national calls), to $69.95, NOT $64.95. How can this be positive and rewarding for ME!?
ADDITIONAL INFO 11/10/2014-BUMPING PLANS.
After speaking to one of their agents. Long story short, they claim they are upgrading their services by not having to call if you use up your data allowance, you simply get 'bumped/upgraded to the next data allowance plan/block', No INCONVENIENCE of having to call them. Meaning that you can potentially go over by 1kb or 1MB, and be charged the next plan, only you'll find out when you get the bill. Prior to this, you chose to buy a data block or put up with being shaped for the remainder of the month.

e-mail received from Spintel today.
As you may know, the Broadband market environment is in a continuous state of change as plans are being upgraded to give you the ”Customer“ increased flexibility and superior “value” broadband packages.

Our aim in SpinTel is “Customer excellence”. Indeed, we have spent considerable time in matching your existing (now obsolete) UNITY One plan, to SpinTel’s unique ADSL2+ Bundle bumping plans.

Admittedly, not a direct comparison with your present UNITY One Plan; the new ADSL2+M Metro Bundle plan does provide Free phone line rental, 20GB Data, Unlimited Local calls, National calls at 20c/min and Mobile calls at 34c/min for a total price of $64.95 which, is not too dissimilar price to what you have been paying.

UNITY One. Plan Data 20GB ($49.95) // New ADSL2+M Ph. Plan with 20GB Data ($64.95)

What do you need to do? If you are in agreement with SpinTel’s offer, then you don’t need to do anything as you will be automatically transferred, effective from the 1st of November. Alternatively, if your communications needs have changed or if you want to discuss the unlimited data option, then please visit us online at spintel.net.au or speak to our Sales rep on 132210 to discuss the best Bundle option.

Plan changes can be positive and rewarding for which we are truly appreciative of your understanding. We, looks forward to continuing our mutual business arrangement and in particular, meeting your present and future communication needs.

Sincerely,
Customer Service SpinTel

Wow … 30% price increase is no fun. I always wonder how they can get their calculations so wrong … or it is even on purpose to hook new customers.

    How about the Exetel 100GB plan $19.99 + line rental $20 = $39.99
And when you really need unlimited calls you can add this for $9.99 and it comes to a total of $49.98
Ok … it is 3 cent more than your old plan (and there will be a line activation fee) but you also get 80GB more data for your 3 cent :-)

    • thanks mini_wombat, will look into this option.

  • Internode

  • I have no problem with businesses increasing subscriptions to make either more money or to stay financially viable.
Sure it might be annoying to have to look around at the competition, but that's life and in this case, I think a better value option has been identified.

It's the "Hey we've got great news" spin added to these "we're increasing your plan costs and decreasing the included value considerably" messages that really annoys me about these communications (similar language is used to tell Vaya and LiveConnected users that their plans are going up by 40+%).

EDIT: Note that many Exetel customers (on Whingepool) are unhappy with their service supplied through Optus ports.. Paying $10/month extra to get service through a Telstra port (if possible) is still excellent value and is reportedly a much better experience.
I'm on a Telstra port with Exetel (by necessity as I'm connected to a RIM, not an exchange) and have no complaints at all! I get awesome speeds and decent download limit for a rate competitive with anyone, let alone Telstra resellers.

  • Call them and discuss. I have negotiated my own deals (customised monthly data, calls and cost) with Comcen/Spintel before.

    • RW, Yes I have sent them a feedback/complaint e-mail. You actually pick a time for them to call (12:20pm today in my case), I am yet to receive their call… (It's 1:05pm right now).

    • Got a call from them after sending a 2nd e-mail. No offer to improve my plan etc. Like it or take up your option to go elsewhere by november 1 is pretty much what their attitude was.
By the way, they mean it, it is an upgrade, and it can be rewarding for me… I did manage to get the agent to admit the changes are just a price increase, not an upgrade.

  • I got an offer from Dodo, nearly matching my current Unity1 deal from Spintel, however still not good enough as I would have to pay $5.00 month extra over 24 months, and pay for local calls. They offered to waive churning/connection fees and 2nd month free (100GB month), as well as giving me an infinite rewards card to compensate for the extra cost. Is anyone familiar with this rewards card, any good?.

No idea, but Dodo is notorious for being a crap ISP. Would be fine for basic browsing and emails etc

      • Exetel are looking like the way to go, 100GB and unlimited calls for $49.98 (+$60.00 transfer fee). Oh well, pay $60.00 extra and get an extra 80GB p/month… not bad.

  • To anyone reading this, I ended up moving to DODO- no difference in service so far (1 week in).
I received an e-mail from Spintel today, they have REDUCED, their new $15.00 price hike by $5.00 ! - too little too late! (still a $10.00 price hike).
I am guessing customers have voted with their feet, just like me.

    Dear Mr …

Cheaper Bundle Plans for Loyal Customers

Recently, SpinTel sent you a notification about upcoming changes to your Unity Broadband bundle plans from November. We’ve got great news - and you’ll be happy to hear that we’re reducing the price.

    What is the difference?

You’ll still receive the same great plans inclusions, the only change you’ll see is a price reduction of $5 per month.

High data customers will be pleased to hear that the XL (Unlimited) Broadband option has been reduced by $15 per month.

What do I need to do to get the new pricing?

Nothing. You will automatically take advantage of the new bundle plan price as SpinTel will be making the change for you from November.

To find out about the new pricing or to change plans, simply log into My Account on the SpinTel website, click on your internet or phone service, then click on Change Plans. We hope you love the savings as much as we do.
