Someone posted this on WP. Good price for playbar, probably the cheapest i have seen in Australia. Might be cheaper to go to JB and ask them to beat the price

  • Great price!
Good luck people, unfortunately I already have one but would jump at adding a sub to my system at this price.

    • How do you find the soundbar without the sub?
@$999 rrp, I would hope that the soundbar could hold its own without it.

      (for reference, I have a play:5)

      • I have the soundbar without sub.. Soundbar +2 Play:1s for surround (and a Play:3 elsewhere in my apartment).
I find it good.. My main goal was better sound without a heap of bass (apartment with thin walls), and it performs well as I have the bass turned down quite a ways. Not sure that the 2 Play:1s were necessary for my use though.

        • What do you find sounds better, 2 Play:1s or a single Play:3?

Do you find it annoying that you can't stream directly from a non-Sonos app? (unlike airplay or bluetooth)

        • +1

@fredblogs: I'll weigh in with my two cents…

I have a Play:5 as well as a Harman/Kardon Onyx Studio (basically a bluetooth speaker).

I use the Onyx heaps more than the Play:5, even though the Play:5 has better sound. Simply because I can use bluetooth audio streaming from any app, whereas with the Play:5 I need to use Spotify through their app. The sonos app is alright, but tends to be laggy, and every month when my Spotify subscription renews I need to reauthenticate the app.

For anyone on here looking at the playbar, you could easily just have the playbar and nothing else and it will still blow you away. Later down the track, I would recommend adding a sonos sub, and if you still have cash to splash look to surround sound.

Or, buy the lot at the same time and save by asking for a deal.

        • @astrodude: Did you consider getting a bluetooth adapter or airport express into the line in on the Play:5 so you have the best of both worlds?

        • @astrodude:
Get AirPort Express and enjoy AirPlay.

For Bluetooth adapter I am not sure what to recommend. In general I got impression people would prefer AirPlay rather than Bluetooth.

      • the playbar holds by its own without sub just fine. it's actually really good soundbar. but sub just took it to another level, especially while watching movie. But if you have never had the sub you would have still be impressed by the soundbar

    • sadly the sub is full price. not sure why they only discount the playbar. is this the sign for new playbar (with hdmi) coming out soon?

      • you mean the soundbar doenst have a hdmi port?

        • Nope. It connects through optical cable (included)

Thanks for this, I was about to purchase one of these in the next couple of months. I ordered one from the Myer website and selected Brisbane City pickup. When I received the confirmation order email it specified a pickup date of 9th November, which was not mentioned anywhere until after the order had been placed. Not a big deal for me as I don't really want it straight away, but might be a problem for others…

    • 9th of november?! and then you will have issue picking it up because of g20

      • Five days later?

    • Update - received my collection email from Myer this morning with a pickup date of Oct 12th (ie tomorrow). So all good (not sure why earlier email said Nov 9th).

  • Too poor to buy this but it's been on the wish list and almost never goes on sale so +1

Genuine question - why do people love sonos so much?

    • +1

im not sure to be honest. it all starts from me going around getting quotes to get speakers installed in the ceiling around my house. was a bit shocked to find out how much it would cost to have ability to control individual room and stuff. So someone over at WP suggested why don't you look at sonos?

then started reading about it more, and it kinds of makes sense as it delivers what i want to achieve.. and more (integration with online music service is awesome, apps are freely available for pc, mobile, pads, integration prospect with my vera etc)

tried with a play 5 and i was impressed by the sound quality. it'a a wireless speaker but you will be forgiven to think this is proper wired speaker from its quality.

the rest is history. 2x play3, 2xplay 5, playbar and sub in my collection. Will add play1 to replace 2 play3 as surrounds (i dont think i can justify play3 as surround speakers) and use the play3 for outdoor deck area and kid's bedroom

      so that's my story…

Genuine question - why do people love sonos so much?

Because it just works. Best bit of kit I ever brought, even my mother could set it up it's so simple and rock solid too.

Genuine question - why do people love sonos so much?

Capability (can play local files from network drive as well as all different online services)
      Sound quality
      Easy to setup
      Easy to use
      Fun to use :)

    • On top of what everyone else has said, I'll add: You don't need make a huge initial outlay. It's easy to grow a piece at a time. Start with one component, if you like it, add to it gradually. I've added a component every 6-12 months over the course of a few years.

  • FWIW this is the price JB did for me on their '$999' sticker price.

  • Plus one for the sound bar. works nice, and rear speakers aren't really necessary with it. add atleast $99 if you want the wall mount bracket. FYI, it has enough base for TV and music, but if you want to turn it up for that cinema 'feel' (yes the base' then you can opt for the sub. it's pretty awesome IMO. more $$ for the sub wall mount bracket if you need it.

  • oh and people like it, because it works seamlessly, always has a PERFECT connection, the sound quality is great, easy to add additional speakers to other rooms, easy to control from your computer, your pad, your phone, easily finds all of your music, connects you with free and paid subscriptions (Pandora) and allows easy search function which scopes both local media AND digital radio. If you worry about 24 bit DAC then you can always attach a separate player via optical cable to the corresponding SONOS unit.

  • WTF is a playbar? Does it need batteries? I think my wife's already got one.

    • does your wifes play music?

      • +1

lol i dont think that 'playbar' plays music :D

        • Here is the difference - this soundbar was born to play music. :)

    • +2

every bar is not a soundbar :)

  • valuebasket.com.au have it for $835 delivered

    • FWIW: Friend of mine bought from value basket and the unit came with US power cable. He asked Sonos about an Australian power cable and they told him the unit was not covered by AU warranty!

  • link no longer working, cant find the playbar on myer website
