    Decent pick up nonetheless

Have had this TV for awhile now. Cannot complain for the price. At the time compared it to other Sony and Samsung that were twice the price and the quality was not that much different.

Why would you consider putting a 40 inch tv in "the kids room"???????????????????

    • +1

My kids have one in there room but the room is large. I guess if the rooms are smaller 32" and under will do.

    • +7

      Times are changing.

      • Maybe so :) As a kid I had a 19" that weighed a tonne.

        • +1

As a kid, we were one of only three families in the district that even had a TV, and it was B&W at that…times most certainly are a-changin! ;)

        • +2

I here ya. It's good to see that these days you can buy a good size TV that doesn't break the budget.

        • +6

@StewBalls: As a kid, my parents use to "look after" the neighbours colour TV when they went on holidays.
Hard going back to B&W when they returned.

        • +3

@Jase2801: Absolutely, it staggers the mind that you can get a TV of this size cheaper than filling up a shopping trolley with healthy food! :)

@MITM, yep when we first heard about colour TVs we all wondered what the big hoopla was about…then we saw cartoons when the neighbour got one! ;)

      40" is the new 32"..

55" is now the smallest size being pushed by manufacturers/retailers for living rooms (and many buyers are opting for 65-80" as prices keep dropping)

Hence the smaller 40-48" sizes are making their way into bedrooms etc, and cost the same as a 32" from 2 years ago.

Why would you consider putting a 40 inch tv in "the kids room"??

Why would you put a TV in the kids room? Bogan bad parenting is creating a generation of obese ADHD-afflicted zombies.

But if you are going to do it, 40" is fine in a small room.

how would these fair as a makeshift desktop screen?

    • +3

At 40" you'll want to sit back a fair bit…

    • +1

Sit about 1 meter away from my 40" and it is fine for me personally.

    • I commonly hear that TVs make poor monitors. Input lag is generally high so it makes it bad for gaming. Also that the text appears crappy and jagged.

I dont have much info, but maybe do some research first.

I bought this TV yesterday fickle minded and watched the football telecasted on CHANNEL 9 HD …amazed by the quality to the price… Its a good bet for someone staying short term(couple of years) in Australia….

    • Channel 9 is HD ?

      • In metro areas I think it might be. Regional channel 9 on the Sunshine Coast QLD isn't I don't think (W.I.N. channel here, maybe diff in different regions)

  • I've got a soniq, there is a fair bit of white bleeding on black screen

  • I'm glad to be part of the boom generation before we use all our minerals in say 50-100 years. I guess I'll live to see if humans are worth putting faith in for innovation to fix that. Should be fun to watch.

I recently picked up the hisense 40k370P (40") for $428.

Now before you jump in and mention JB are doing the soniq 48" for $499 (was $399) this hisense model uses a LG panel, comes with a 3 year warranty, is a current 2014 model and overall has a great finish and build quality.

If you are in the market for a 40" and only want to spend around $400 I would definitely recommend this TV.

    • You got a good discount from $498 down to $428

Why is Teletext a feature on this product when it isn't a service in Australia anymore?

    • +1

      Wait - no teletext anymore?

      • Yeah, I didn't realise that they apparently shut it down in 2009.

That said, Teletext functionality per se might (pure speculation here) still be relevant to enable closed captions for hearing impaired viewers?

  • Can it get any cheaper than this? Sarcasm

    • +1

For us Australians and fellow Westeners this is relatively affordable, but let's not forget that over half of the world they would need to work months to earn this amount of money ( gross, not savings ). Even in the country of origin, ( China ) also +- a whole month full time gross wages. That kind of puts it in prospective a bit.

For what it's worth my girlfriend just bought a 40 inch from Kogan for just over 300 bucks.

Have to say its a damn awesome TV for that money.

Inbuilt USB playback has been able to play everything that we have thrown in particular HD MKV, menu scroll very nice and fast, Picture quality is great, bezel is extremely thin.

Much better than the sonics and we were looking at JB

  • How is this compare with Dick Smith 40"?

    • +1

      That sounds longer

    • I can't get any reception on that TV, all the other TVs are fine. tried moving it to different outlets, different aerial leads, etc. and it all goes back to that TV not having a good enough tuner. The signal strength bar shows 100% but the quality bar fluctuates 0-14%.
