Vaya Data Usage - Triple my real usage!

Hi All,

Just moved from Amaysim to Vaya, mainly for data as 500MB wasn't really cutting it for me anymore…

Just wondering what everyone's experience with Vaya data usage is?

My current usage:

Vaya website 800MB
Phone usage (not 1MB sessions) 139MB
Vaya usage breakdown (from website CSV, 1MB sessions) 253MB

WTF?!? Their usage for me is 3x what I have used… (with 1MB sessions in mind)…

I'm trying to contact again (haven't had much luck tried 3 times, I know they are renowned for their customers service * sarcasm *).

I'm regretting moving from Amaysim, any suggestions? Anyone else had the same thing?

Thanks

If they are rounding up your usage to 1mb sessions as you suggest then I'd imagine everytime you do anything, even 5kb, it would be registered as 1mb. Which would add up quickly has you have pointed out.

Amaysim had 1MB sessions too, their 253MB figure (which I got from their breakdown) is in line with what I got with Amaysim.

      • I experienced this occasionally on Live Connected (per kb billing).. after a few days, the system corrected itself back to the correct amount.
        I wouldn't want to go over though…

There is a 48 hour delay in their system, I have waited 3 days now… but usage keeps going up…

        • @HAL:
Same with LC (they're the same company these days).
The usage meter dropped back to show my actual usage as measured by their csv file.. Took a week or so and in the meantime I watched my usage like a hawk!

@scubacoles: Wow that's really dodgy, especially for people who using those figures to monitor their data. It could mean some people are buying extra add-ons when they don't need it.

They sent me a email + sms saying I'm over 50% usage this month, though I'm clearly not.

I called them twice just now… you are put on hold for 8mins then it hangs up on you… SERIOUSLY?!?

I have been on Vaya for more than 2 years and never had issues with them, that is the data usage in android settings is equal to what is reported by them.
But from last month, there has been crazy difference in what vaya reports and what data usage on on my phone shows.
Just this month the data usage reported by my phone is ~600mb whereas the vaya website is showing 1.5GB+…

p.s does anyone know any better plans/companies??
I was on $11 vaya plan for 2 years ($650 for calls and 1.5GB) and now they moved me to $18 plan for same..

    • The days of $11/12 plans are over (unless you don't need much data or call inclusions.. Telechoice has a $12.50 plan).
Vaya is still the cheapest in the market by far.

  • I'm with Exetel $20 4G 500mb
It's ok, 1kb billing and I find my phone data is almost the same as exetel online usage report which is updated every few hours.
IPhone usage data is slightly lower though as I think it only records downloads whereas Exetel is uploads too.

I considered moving to Vaya but read too many reports of dodgy billing surprises and very poor support / follow up when it happens.

500mb is pretty tough though. I'm looking out for another Virgin bonus data offer or something (sim only no contract etc)

Same thing happened to us last month, the meter was fixed a few days later, then about a week or so later received the email below: (abridged: attempted to integrate new real time usage system, but it failed). You can also check out whirlpool forum for peoples experiences : http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2312551&p…

"As a result of a recent upgrade to our Spend Alert system, some of you may have noticed that our data meter has gone a bit haywire this month. We've been working through some fixes with the company providing this system. The Spend Alert system is not linked directly with the billing of your service, it's simply a guide to help you manage your spend through the month and we use this system to notify you via SMS of your monthly totals. On the 1st Sept, we upgraded this system to include close to real time metering of your Voice, SMS AND Data usage and this has been where the issues have started. For the issues some of you have experienced, we are truly sorry.

For the remainder of the month, we have rolled the system back to the traditional Billing Information meter which, like all post-paid mobile providers, generally runs up to 48hrs in arrears of usage.

In October, we're going to going to test out a new system to get back to the real-time data metering all of our customers enjoyed previously.

    Once again, sincerest apologies,

    The Team at Vaya."

  • Telechoice (Telstra 3G SIM ONLY) $20 ($500+UNL/SMS+1gb per kb) or $25 ($650+SMS+1.5gb) and you can monitor via myUsage (andriod) and USAGE (iOS) as well as your data meter. http://www.telechoice.com.au/

Optus Betterlife 4G SIM ONLY, has per kb billing $33 UNL+3gb $43 UNL+6gb $53 UNL+9gb if you have a healthcare card and $3-6 more on the plans if not. https://www.betterlife.org.au/mobile-plans

Just two choices besides prepaid options http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_unlimited_prepaid_plans

But VAYA are pretty good, the had a problem (see previous post with info before mine) and are working through it. TC have had problems when they changed billing systems too, its just not a perfect world.

    • Wow, that optus better life deals seem really good. Has anyone gone with them before?

  • Vaya are 2 days behind your actual usage information. So it can be wrong and just an indicator.

I'm about to port away from Vaya and move to Spintel I think.

I upgraded my plan from flexi 17 to power 18 in August. They have given me TWO accounts under my phone number (how does their system even allow that?) and have been double charging me. Every month I call them up and they credit my account.

This month I received not only a bill for 2 accounts but also the plan freeze fee of $9.90 (for a plan that isn't even eligible for the freeze fee). So now I'm being charged $45.90 for a $18 plan. I've written to them about it and nothing happened so I was charged the full amount today.

I called them up and told them to fix it. I was told I'd get the amount recredited. I said I want a refund as I'm not sure if I'll be with them next month at this point. I was told that they will try to fix it but it will be 'possible' that the problem may still be fixed. I wasn't rude but I firmly told them that isn't my problem. They've had 2 months to fix the issue and have been avoiding specific questions in writing addressing it only telling me they will credit me. She then tries to explain thinking I don't understand what she is saying. I told her again I completely understand what she is saying but I don't care, I just want the problem fixed.

She then offers to put my through to a supervisor. I told her that I don't really have a need to. I've said all I need to. If she wishes to speak to a supervisor to ensure it gets actioned I would appreciate it. Suddenly she says she'll lose her job if I don't speak to the supervisor. At which point I just hung up thanks to her attempts to emotionally blackmail me.

So I made a complaint to the TIO. Great prices but abysmal customer service.

  • Word of advise. PORT AWAY FROM VAYA! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
    They are a scam!

  • I'm with virgin and my Android phones data usage meter is always more than I actually used… (3gb on phone but according to virgin app, I've only used 1.2gb)
When I was with Vaya it was opposite.

    • Do you get free social on Virgin?
Makes no sense at all that the official tally is so dramatically different to your phone's tally, unless there is a big portion of "free" data in there.

      • Not sure why this happens.
I know Youtube is not free anymore, but Facebook and Twitter might be. (not that I really use them much though)

  • I just joined VAYA used 500MB on my phone. Then i got a message saying i used 100% of my data (2.5g) They froze my Data and their 'Live Tracker' has been sitting on 6G while my invoiced data is sitting at 500mb. I've been trying to contact them for the past 5 days. No luck. I'm pissed off and looking to leave. Freaking Joke.

On top of all that theres an extra charge of 21.90 that doesn't exist inside my Vaya.net account section…
