how many referals have you got with the link?

        • Just report it if you are concerned about the use of referral?

        • This is a clean link, I have enough friends myself if I want to have free earhoox

      • -6

        A referral is a cost

  • what does the friends have to do?
there must be something stopping me makeing up 50 email addresses and getting the free earphones for life thing.

    • -1

yes I know but this is not possible, because the ip is the same. I have tried with proxy but this does not work.

    • Just to mention, you get free earhooks and not earphones. Was reading very fast so haven't seen it first.

I'm curious as to whether they need to be unique referrals.
For example, if each of us posted one e-mail address which we use for 'junk', and each of us referred each other up to a total of 50 times, and then each of us clicked the links on the 50 e-mails we received would we all get earhooks for life?

The other key question: would that be enough to forever discourage companies from having 'referral' deals, because that alone would be worth it.

      • This would not work as your ip can't be used twice. So you cannot sign up more than once. I think the ip is somehow linked to your computer, so that nobody can just use a proxy server. Perfect system which cannot be betrayed. And I think if this would work and they find out they would cancel this offer I think. Yep and I also believe, that this would discourage companies from having referral deals.

Yeah, I misunderstood the nature of the referral. I thought you needed to enter other people's e-mail addresses (which I hate), but rather it gives you a referral link (which is fine).

Edit: I take it back again, the person you refer needs to then enter their e-mail address (which I hate).

Edit 2: There are IP checks, but I think there are also other checks. (I was able to refer 3 e-mail addresses on a private domain, but it was when I was testing address 4 which was a mailinator.com address that I received an IP address blocking message). I think the same IP can be used multiple times, but there is a limit (of 3 referrals, I think)
For technical curiosity, not for cheating the system (which would be more effort than it is worth, IMHO)

You enter your e-mail address. You receive a referral link in your mailbox.
          Connect to a VPN.
You open a 'privacy' tab in Chrome or Firefox, which means none of the cookies, etc get re-used.
You open the referral link in that mailbox.
You enter another e-mail address, one which must not have been used already for this
Once that is done, a 'referral' is marked against the first e-mail address.
          Close the 'privacy' tab.
Disconnect from the VPN, and make a new VPN connection to another VPN server.

In order to scam free earhooks for life (whatever that might actually mean), you would need to connect to a VPN, open a privacy tab, load the referral URL, and enter another e-mail address 50 times. Also keep in mind that if other people are doing the same thing on the same VPN network you'd be sharing the allowance of 3-4 referrals per IP address.

Referred e-mail addresses must be unique:
Thus, if [email protected] refers [email protected], then [email protected] can't refer [email protected] or [email protected], etc. Thus, an interconnected web of referrals wouldn't work.

It also seems to have some weird e-mail address length limit, but that validation is applied after the IP check (presumably when the e-mail is being entered into a database). If they haven't properly checked field length before inserting into the database, I wonder what other bad user input validation…

          Anyway, just for the curious.

        • Yep anyways I don't need earhoox I am fine with my earphones/headphones as they are. Just thought that somebody might be interested. @2be8:

        • @markus:

          Yeah, that's fine =)
Unless you're the marketing person who chose the referral approach, in which case I blame you entirely ;)

        • haha I just found this deal online when searching for freebies and deals online @2be8:

        • oh my god how complicated… ;)@2be8:

  • A few things wrong with the title and description of this deal. Firstly, you don't get earbuds/earphones, this promo is for the Earhoox product. This is a earbud/earphone attachment. As already mentioned, you don't get anything for free, it's a referral promo. As for the "FOR LIFE" offer, it says "up to", I would expect there to be a clause that states if your Earhoox product brakes/wears out, you can get a new set, up to once a month. All in all I'd say how this deal is posted is quite misleading.

    • In the title it already says that you get Earhoox and also below in the description, so I don't know what should be wrong with it. I have found this deal online and thought some might be interested. You don't have to use this deal if you don't want to

      • holden93 thought he was getting earphones, in your reply you didn't correct him, you only mentioned that you already tried one method to cheat the providers of this promo which didn't work. He clearly was thinking this promo was for earphones, and looking at the title and the image that was there initially, it wasn't hard to misunderstand this deal. I have, by the way, no issues with this deal, it is how it was posted I take issue with. The title could be more clear. The title should not mention free (or if it does, at least clarify it's a referral scheme in the title as well). The description should ideally have a reference, as I can't find that particular wording on that page.

Oh yeah you are right. Sorry I was just reading very fast over holden93's answer. Thought it is clearly mentioned. Title + picture has been changed so hopefully will understand now

        • @markus: Better, thanks. But where exactly did you get the wording for your description from, i.e. "Refer 50 Friends – FREE Earhoox, every month, for LIFE". Am I just blind?

        • @daerka: When I entered my email address it says it when you scroll over the 'Earhoox for life'. I have made a screenshot: http://tinypic.com/r/6emadi/8

        • @markus: Ok, so I'm not blind, it does say "up to", so there most certainly is some smallprint somewhere.

        • yep I know, I think the detailed information will be sent after the promotion is over in a few days. I also was searching for some small print information but couldn't find it. Have included the "up to" in the post. Well I don't need an Earhoox anyways. But maybe someone will let us know in a few days what this really mean s ;) @daerka:
