QLD $3888 6kW System (24 Chinese Panels, JFY Inverter) from Sky Solar Energy

90

Came across this deal on solar have been looking to replace a 1kW system and recent quotes were always around $7K for 5kW system so I've signed up for this. I know it's not top of the range but the technology is improving always and I plan on upgrading again once newer more efficient tech like micro inverters, more efficient panels and battery backup is more affordably priced.

Is this price including REC's or any subsidy?

  • Cant get REC's if you already have a system installed so must be no REC discount for this price since OP already has a system in place

  • +2

The OP will also go on to the new feed in tariff of 8c / kwh

    • I stand corrected but no FIT if system is bigger than 5kW

      • +2

I don't quite understand what they mean in the ad - it says 5Kw + 1Kw. maybe it is a 5kw inverter and 1kw of panels??

    • Didn't they recently abolish the 8 cent FIT in Qld entirely? They've definitely said they'll try to cancel the old 44c one if reelected.

  • Good price. kW/$ basis this will probably blow the more expensive 3kW systems that are still being priced at 4k mark.

Not sure about REC (STC?) seeing as I already have a system but contract has been signed for $3888 and they are aware of the existing system so would know whether or not I'm eligible for REC discount still. Every other company I had a quote from seemed to think I was eligible for it still. Current $0.52 feed in tariff saves us $50 on a $600 quarterly bill (53kwh fed in 1914kwh consumed). Alas feed in tariff will drop to 8c but plan to make hay while the sun shines! Run pool filter, dishwasher, washing machine etc sunlight hours only. Now just need to find some discounted deep cycle solar batteries to power the router and mac….

Based on your numbers I would be checking whether it is good value to change over.

It would appear that that you have some serious shade problems if you are only making 53kwh a quarter as that is only 0.6kwh a day. My 2kw system in Sydney has averaged 7.2kwh per day over the last 3 years and that is in Sydney facing NE with partial morning shade. I'd say that in Queensland you should be getting around 4kwh per day average for a 1kw system.

Unless your getting full sun whist running appliances there will not be much saving and don't forget that your washing maching etc are not running for very long and not every day.

I would be checking why your output is so low before proceeding.

  • Website dead currently, but a suspiciously good price.

Are they adding to your current system or replacing it (ie are they claiming 5 or 6KW in STC credits)?

    • Replacing, I'm taking the old 1KW system off.

  • Do your research - Lot's of helpful folks on Whirlpool Solar forum: Just ask and they will steer you in the right direction.

Be very aware though that you get what you pay for.

    JFY is a dodgy inverter..

  • Yes check whirlpool forums. You only get what you pay for. Price itself for 6kw system raises an immediate red flag.

The sun is shining, the road is clear and the race leaders are reaching speeds of up to 130 kilometres an hour.

It is in stark contrast to yesterday, when a large bushfire closed the only highway between Darwin and Adelaide, and the race had to be suspended. The top three teams spent the night near the small town of Wauchope and racing began without a hitch this morning.

…time for a specsavers deal for you systmworks! ;)

        • Their website has been hacked, it's just a generic template on an old version of WordPress.

This is the WordPress Pharma Hack, most of the pages that are hacked you can't see as it only shows them to search engines.

        • But is the Viagra and Cialis good value? Maybe post that as a bargain

  • Does adding solar to your house increase its value when selling your house?

    • Some say increase, some say decrease due to how ugly they look…

  • Low quality obviously, but at that price you can afford to replace later.

    • Replace the Solar or your house?

      • Replace the Solar or your house?

Maybe the house if the poor install and components catch fire.

    • How can you afford to replace it later? You won't get the government subsidies later and replacing panels on the roof is expensive. And to top it off this cheap install may have panels that catch fire, will use cheap isolators which do catch fire, will use cheap racking, the install will be shoddy with surface run conduit, undersized cable and poor fitment to roof (drilling tiles instead of grinding them and using proper brackets).

You can't have you cake and eat it as well, if you want something that will last a long time use decent panels and a decent inverter along with an installer that is not paid a minimum amount for the job.

As was said before read the whirlpool forum, the damage done by cowboys installing cheap solar systems is amazing.

  • thank you wikingpower !!

  • What does viagra got anything to do with solar panel??? O.o

    • +2

It gives you bigger panels that last longer ?

    • point at it to let your neighbours know about your new panels?
