It only gives 6 Months free licence.

Thank you for choosing Bitdefender® Internet Security 2015, awarded by AV-TEST Best Protection for 3 years straight! You’re getting this product for FREE, and your license is valid for 6 months

But I can confirm I get a different key from the other 6 Months offer with the same email address which I used to apply.

Have not installed it yet to try stacking the codes though to make it 1 year.. Not sure if you can now unlike in the past.

    • OK, pity they don't make it clear beforehand!

      • Just about every one of these free BD deals for the last 2 years is only 6 months. Might be worth putting '6 months free' in title rather than '100% discount'!

  • Is it really better than kasperskay? I don't know anything about AVs

    • Apparently it is, though like anything there'll be differing views.

    • On a par with Kas.

This will give you a quick guide: http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php
There are a series of graphs showing results for a range of tests - see contents on left of this page: http://www.av-comparatives.org/dynamic-tests/

Some reports of problems installing Bitdefender on Windows 8.

      • From personal experience, BitDefender is a lot more resource hungry than Kaspersky. KIS2015 is even better than KIS2014 for resource usage. I'm using KIS 15.0.1.415 and I don't even notice any performance impact.

Bitdefender doesn't seem to prompt the user when it discovers an infected file. I noticed it in the previous version of BitDefender and lots of people complained about it. I know this is to make it easier to use for regular mom and dad folks, but what about experienced users?

Bitdefender just deletes any infected file it finds — often times there is no quarantine prompt or attempt at disinfection — it doesn't notify the user either. The file just dissapears off your hard disk. Not cool BitDefender.

Possibly in your settings (the default)? Mine quarantines files but leaves it to me to decide the action. User Mode, not Autopilot?

    • Yep, there's lots of settings in there that you can change to suit!

  • its only six months
