Doesn't seem to do MKV unfortunately. Good for those without a console i guess, although most DVD players also seem to have these USB functions nowadays. Even my TV now has USB input!

  • Makes a note of mentioning price inc shipping in title on future submitted deals, thankyou for your feedback.

    • lol dude, edit the first post and pop it in there please :)

saves the mods from doing it.

    • Why not for this post?

  • btw it looks like a good little product (assuming you don't already have a ps3/xbox360). It's a shame though it doesn't have ethernet.

  • Doesn't seem like full HD? ("HDMI output: 720P/1080i")

If you're looking at getting something like this I'd highly recommend the WD HD TV. It's a bit more expensive but it plays everything I've thrown at it (including MKV) flawlessly and it looks like they're making a new model with an Ethernet port. But for $77, I guess you can't complain with this. :)

  • It's a shame the price isn't in the title or description… once the no-price-required pandora's box is open, the site will be full of posts stating "really good device, i swear it's cheap too, walk-in only"

  • geez.. lately ozbargain is becoming COTD

I already own a media very similar to this. it included a 2.5" hard drive inside. I bought it more than a year ago and it was about $200 at the time.

I also bought a $60 DVD player from Big W (about 6 months ago) that has USB input, SD reader, and HDMI output.

the quality output on both players are about the same.

I would take it with me while visiting friends and that's pretty neat.

My movies/TV shows collection are 50% on DVD and 50% on usb hard disk.

and I somehow ended up using the DVD player daily since then.
I hardly touch the portable player while at home.

  • does it play .flv formats?

  • Going by the pic on the box it looks like it has a full size remote which is a plus.

I would prefer the USB port on the front or on the side though and I would want a Component connection.

  • Can someone please tell me if this supports .flv files?

    • Nupe. (same for WD TV)

This player wont play blue-ray files but the WD TV player does.
Blue ray comes in 2 flavors: .mkv and avchd
      - .mkv for blue-ray rip
      - .avchd from HD camcorders/DSLR
