  • Good Price … but I've had nothing but trouble with the ethernet on two of these. Wifi range isnt great either esp for 2.4g. Currently back with Netgear for RMA on my second one.

At this price though, for those looking for AC connectivity and inbuilt modem its worked fantastic with TPG - shame about the issues above.

  • Can anyone confirm how strong the WiFi is on these? I live in an apartment with concrete walls and not sure whether to upgrade from my mid range modern router or get a WiFi repeater/extender.
    Cheers

    • It really is a mid range router itself (no external aerials on these). The next step up nighthawk is a lot more $$$ though … its good for the price but doubt whether it will extend that much further. For devices using 5g the range is slightly better.

  • Does anyone on here own this and can comment on how well it works? I've read some reports of it having below-par speeds for both 802.11n and 802.11ac

Sounds like a good deal though, and I'm in the market for a new modem/router too!

    • +1

I have this for 3 months now. Haven't updated it to latest firmware and it's running fine. Hasn't been restarted for that long too and i have lots of connections to it. Ethernet ports are fully occupied and all other devices connected through wifi. However as expected 5g connection isn't that great over the distance but the only devices that can use the 5g are my and my missus phone and both our laptops. Nothing else in the house can use it unfortunately

  • Looks like some fairly average reviews online for these.

  • choosing between this or Tp-link Archer D7

    • +2

I just got the D7 to replace this. The interface in the netgear is a lot better (but who actually spends their time in 192.168.1.1 ;) ) The D7 is working very well but some report similar probs with range etc. To me they are equal in what they do but Ive found the D7 to be stable for the past 7 days. I also like the two usb ports on the D7 but havent played around with fileserver / media server as of yet. The D7 is proving less troublesome with about 4 ethernet connects, 2 power over ethernet and about 7 wireless. Also the D7 comes with the free AC wifi dongle on redemption at the moment.

      • thanks, D7 it is then.

      • +1

D7 for me as well I think. This Netgear unit has very mixed reviews.

    • Definitely Archer D7, because it's AC1750 (not AC1200), and they extended the promotion of a free AC dongle: http://www.tp-link.com.au/Archer-D7/

Had my Archer D7 for a few weeks now. Rock solid, and high sync speed. Has 3 years warranty as well, btw.

      • What's the best price for this? any idea? my inlaws need a new router.

        • I got mine for $149 from MSY. You can also get them from authorised eBay sellers for $157 shipped. Needs to be from authorised seller to be able to claim the dongle. Dongles like that can cost a lot if you need to buy them separately.

  • Besides the USB 3.0 and a couple of features are there any major differences between this and say the cheaper WNDR4300?

  • I am using this modem for around 6 months now. the wifi range is good, haven't had any issues as yet.

  • Is this better than billion modems ?

  • For all of those who is really fed up with routers, please if you take my suggestion take this one Netgear D6300 802.11ac Wireless Dual Band Modem Gigabit.

I bought this last near 2 years back it runs like butter and very good range, i am really happy the way it works, i used with dodo and tpg and its great, on ebay you can get it for $180.
