Fridge Trips The Electricity in The Apartment

My fridge turns off the electricity of the apartment for some reason. Took me a while to narrow is down to the fridge to be the cause of it.
Any solutions ?

Or do I need a new fridge. Tomorrow is Melbourne Cup so wont be able to get a fridge straightaway.

I live in a 1 Bed room apartment so the fridge width has to be less than 67 cm and has to be a decent size.
I can spend more if I get a large capacity fridge but considering my width requirement, it is not totally feasible.

Please help guys! What to do?

  • A 67mm fridge? I assume you mean 67cm or 670mm :-)

I doubt you'll need to buy a new fridge, just get an appliance service guy out. Might be the defroster heater if it's the earth leakage breaker being tripped, or the compressor motor if it's a standard breaker or fuse.

Hard to tell if a repair or replacement is a better solution - depends on how old it is, what brand it is, how much you like it, whether you have the money, etc, etc.

Most retailers are still open tomorrow, so if you want to buy a new fridge, the Melbourne Cup won't stop you.

    • Its a Fisher and Paykel, second hand old, out of warranty, uses a fan in freezer to circulate air. Looks like Service is not an option then.
      What shall i buy? Price range $500 - 700

Would have even bought a double door fridge as i do have the money for it but it wouldnt fit the door.

    • Good advice. My freezer broke down a month ago, and I got it running again by disabling the automatic defroster.

  • Kmart $49 to buy some time to research/hunt/haggle. Surely you'd save >$49 given time to think.

Is your RCD tripping, or the Circuit Breaker on the power circuit? Didn't think fridges should be RCD protected.
