Another great deal by Mana - thanks!

OP - how long will this be available? I need to check how much I have left.

    • +3

Thanks ;-) Should be at least a week maybe longer on these particular coffees

This has puzzled me for a while, why do you sell your bags 20g less than the standard i.e. everyone else sells their beans as 500g bags

    • +4

IIRC it was related to the postage costs, because 4 x 500g + 4x bags is > 2Kg or something like that, so it was bumping them up to the next pricing tier for the postage

    • +1

I was wondering too. I was thinking though that maybe it is so their gross weight is 500g (eg including bag) so cheaper shipping

  • +7

Hi guys, yes that's right. We do use normal sizes for all standard website sales ie 500g and 1kg but for the Ozbargain deals that are discounted, Australia Post express shipping costs around $13-$14. when you add the extra weight of the 4 coffee bags and the satchel weight it takes it up into the next threshold and shipping jumps by another $4-$5

We've found that although Australia Post is more expensive it has eliminated all the problems that we were having with the previous courier services who could only deliver if someone was home to sign.

Basically if you pay full price through the website you get standard weights, but to make these cheaper Ozbargain deals available for everyone then we need to knock a few grams off the weights to make the shipping viable.

We also try to offer a variety of higher end coffees for our regular Ozbargain customers to try ie Blue Batak on this deal is a 90 point specialty coffee and the Southern Velvet consists of 3 expensive specialty coffees including a 93 point Ethiopian Bita Bonga.

The Colombian that arrived this week from the last deal is a fantastic coffee manna. Haven't tried the Brazilian yet but I can see the Colombian Volcano being put on repeat.

    • +3

Thanks, our friend Andres is in Colombia on these farms at the moment helping the farmers and organizing more of this particular coffee and another similar one.

I've ordered 8 bags of another great Colombian coffee from him which is a blend of 3 farms and will be arriving soon on his next shipment :-)

OP - I just noticed in a previous post of yours you state: "The lighter the roast, the less capable a coffee can cut through milk" Which coffee do you think would go well for cappuccino?

    • +3

Hi Klinkpc, sorry I'm not sure which post you are referring to. lightly roasted coffee can still cut through the milk well.

The darker you roast the more caffeine and acidity you tend to burn off so a lightly roasted coffee is generally more acidic and therefore has the acidity to cut through the milk.

Different coffees suit different roasts but generally for black filter or pour over coffees you would roast light.
Often Milk based coffees are medium-medium dark roast but some people still like lighter roasts for milk based.

For example an Ethiopia Bita Bonga I can roast light for filter coffee or a bit darker for espresso.

Most of these Ozbargain deals offer a variety that can be enjoyed for milk based coffees and good all round coffees but if you want specific roast profiles then you can buy through the website and request your roast preferences.

A higher majority of people gravitate towards the chocolatey or malty flavour profiles for milk based whereas some of the natural processed and more fruity coffees are often enjoyed as a back coffee. Hope this helps

klinkpc - I percolate my coffee and top up with a lightly frothed milk to make more or less a flat white. For a milk coffee I think the colombian volcano is excellent as it is quite malty and smooth with a great middle. I lean away from the acidic bean if I'm using milk as for me it sours the taste up front or makes it too sharp and bitter at the end.

Each to their own of course and the great thing about manna is the different samples on offer and the description that goes with. I've tried 6 different types now and this is the one that has stood out for my palate.

Thanks for your feedback and advice

        • Tried the brazilian today - wow. Good hearty coffee like the colombian.

Ordered, as I have just opened my last bag of Brazil Fazenda.

  • Hi OP

Can I get Colombian Huila Organic as the lucky dip ? If not how much to add 1/2 kg of Colombian Huila Organic to the deal ?

    Thanks

    • +1

Hi, I don't actually have Colombian Huila being roasted at the moment as I tend to use it more in one of my blends than as a single origin(still good as a single though)

Happy to roast for you but would require me to perform an individual small batch roast which takes about 30 mins so would only be able to add on as an addition to the deal. It would be an additional $20 and can be sent through Paypal to [email protected] Please leave notes. Hope this helps.

      Thanks

Great - full amount sent via paypal. Thanks again for the awesome service.

  • Hi OP,

Just received my coffee today. I opened the package with excitement, only to find that one of the bags was open and the beans were all over the place! After cleaning up the mess, I noticed that ALL 4 BAGS WERE UNSEALED!!! I have been buying from Mannabeans for nearly a year now and never had this before !!

    • +1

Hi David, sorry to hear that a bag of the beans spilt from not being sealed.

Happy to send you out a replacement. Please could you shoot me through a photo of tops of bags so that I can establish whether the packing team missed the sealer completely or whether my sealer didn't seal properly to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Also emailing me helps me identify who you are as you Ozbargain account is only just created today so I have no way of finding your order or address details

      thanks very much

      Hi Rep,
I received my beans this morning and mine are also unsealed. However mine have not spilt as the reusable seal managed to stay closed during shipping. It looks to my untrained eye that the sealer did not seal properly as there is a checker patern in the area where the sealer would normally be applied.

I hope this helps you troubleshoot the problem.

      Michael

      • Thanks Michael your feedback is much appreciated.
