Nexus 6 Australian Playstore coming soon $869 for 32GB, $929 for 64GB

I was looking forward to get the Nexus 6 but I can not believe the price are so high for Australia. I was expecting the pricing conversion to be similar to the Nexus 9 which is $8 - $24 more when convert from US dollar. I don't think I will pay $100 more for the Nexus 6. Very disappointed with google pricing. May get the 1+1 now instead.

    Hurry for the Australia tax!!!
    /sarcasm

The Nexus 6 doesn't seem like such a good deal anymore compared to back when the nexus 5 came out…

  • where did you get those final prices for the AU store from?

Cnet is quoting AU$740 as the entry price.

Just checked on the Play Store. I stand corrected.

The US prices are quoted pre-tax, once you add GST it makes the balance quite close

  • Hope they reduce the price of Nexus 5 same like they did with Nexus 4

Nexus 6 is in iPhone pricing which is too steep to purchase outright. Hopefully the telcos release some decent plans for the nexus 6 cause $869 minimum is too much.

  • I was hoping it would be below the $800 mark but this kinda kills my plans. I guess I'll stick with my nexus 4 for a while longer as I don't really need to upgrade it yet.

  • lol say goodbye to nexus, this article sums it up pretty nice:

The reason we’re shocked is because the Nexus range has always been the Android phone for the people: a brilliant alternative to the Samsung, LG and Sony flagships that actually presented some insanely good value.

    • i guess OPO is the "new nexus"

  • wouldnt there be GST on the Aus ones, so prices are fairly even then.
    Still very expensive.

  • Wow that pricing is ridiculous. Double the price of the N5.

  • I Should have bought the Nexus 5 when DWI offered it for $369 last week..

  • The Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 are a completely different category of phone. The Nexus 6 is a high end device that can compete with every top tier offering from other manufacturers. Personally I am really glad that Google realized the demand for a high end nexus device. If you want a cheap phone there are plenty of them available. If you are comparing the two don't just compare the price as the specs are far superior to the nexus 5.

When the n5 was released a year ago the specs were high end. Sure, now the n6 trumps it in every way.

      • Hang on. When the N5 was release there were much higher spec'd devices on the market… High end in comparison to what?

        • +1

"much higher spec'd phones"? Names? The only other high spec'd phone at that time was the LG G2. The Galaxy S4 etc all had the snapdragon 600? The nexus had the snapdragon 800.

But yes the n5 and 6 are completely different. The 6 is a phablet. Though saying the n5 wasn't high spec'd on release is just wrong imo.

        • Nexus series, at least 4 and 5, were at the very least on par with high-end phone in terms of SoC, of the generation that it belongs to. If you compare Nexus 5 with LG G2, which basically what Nexus 5 is based on, even though camera and battery is worse than G2, everything else was fairly similar. I personally think Nexus 6 feels more expensive, considering how cheap nexus 4 and 5 were.

    • Well we need to see the reviews of the phone first.
The Nexus 9 turned out to be premium price but not premium quality:

  • Will I still be able to do the tax refund in the airport if i bought this phone?

  • AnandTech's review on Nexus 6 — in short, it's a dud; don't buy. 2x the price of N5, performance not much better, worse battery life, screen not as bright, and the camera is still crap.
