Purchasing New 3ds Xl + Omega Ruby

Where is the best spot to order/preorder a new 3ds xl and Omega Ruby? I'll need a charger too.

Are any of the stores offering preorder bonuses? Is there even a point in preordering? Will I miss out on any events by waiting till christmas?

On that note, will I actually save anything by waiting till christmas? I would be happy to wait for a cheaper price or whatnot as long as I don't miss events and such.

Any information you guys have is welcome even if I don't mention it here.

I think the current events are all for xy, you get this circle rock dude from playing the demo for ruby/sapphire but u can probably do that after release anyway.

I have not seen the new 3ds for cheaper than rrp yet, I expect jb and big w will undercut the rrp closer to release.

  • If you're gonna get it Day 1 then: New 3DS XL from Target ($229), Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire pre-order from JB Hi-Fi ($49), so you don't miss out (you're likely to wait a week or two before you can just buy one off the shelf).

As for events…the only events I think you could miss if you wait till Christmas is if they release some Pokemon codes beforehand that are exclusively online only for the game.

    • I was thinking target, but I'm worried that I won't be able to get in store or I'll miss out on stock. I'll wait till the 13th to see the catalogue though.
Do you know if the target country stores will have them? Plus the games.

  • I recommend EB games.

Usually the EB games on Swanston St. in the CBD hosts a midnight launch party for "big releases" so unless you're interested in attending that, there's really not much point in pre-ordering I think. However, they do give out some stuff (could be a tshirt,.. or just posters.. depends on your luck) during the party so it might be worth attending…? I know they're definitely having a launch party for Pokemon ORAS tho.

Last time, when you pre-ordered X/Y from EB they did have a pre-order bonus (pokeball game cart holder) but that went out of stock pretty quick, so people who pre-ordered late didn't get the bonus (like me :( ). I haven't heard whether they're giving out any pre-order bonus this round.

    • They did (Primal Groudon/Primal Kyogre figurines). It ran out ages ago (a lot less stock than the PokeBall for last year, which they even gave out to people who price matched in the end…normally they never do that)

      • Oh yes that's right. I was thinking I didn't need/want the figurines so I didn't bother to pre-order…

        • So coz the figurines ran out, everyone now gets nothing? And any events will probably last for a while afterwards. I really don't see any rush to get the game/console!

        • @Clebby: Yeah pretty much. It's a first come first serve basis. There really isn't a rush at all so I haven't preordered either. Even with X/Y (which everyone was so hyped about) and there was heaps of it left by the end of the day. And the day after. And after that. And any free pokemon event will probably last for a month

        • @Encipher: Sweet. I was worried if I went in later in the day I'd miss out from target, but now I feel better about waiting till christmas or just a bit longer. Cheers!

  • Cheapest prices at the moment are $229 for the N3DS XL at Target and $44 for ORAS at Target as well. I'm buying both at EB and price-matching so I can still get points from their loyalty program.

You're not missing anything if you don't buy it straightaway, Australia doesn't get any preorder bonuses and the Shiny Beldum event goes until January the 14th.

    • How does the price matching work exactly? I've never actually done it before.

Oh so shiny Beldum is for ORAS and is the first event? Is it an in store one or a wifi one?

      • I preordered at EB by lierally just going to the counter and asking if I could preorder. They said yes and I put down a $10 deposit and took my details and gave me a receipt. They also confirmed I could price match on the day of pickup.

It's going to be a wifi distribution.

        • Ah good. I was worried I'd miss out on that!

      • Basically, when you're about to pick up your pre-order, you tell the cashier "I'd like to price match Target/BigW/etc for this game because they're selling it at $xx dollars". Most of the time they're aware of their competitor's prices and just agree to it straight out. But if they're not, they'll just do a quick google search on their website.

        • Ok cheers!

  • Well, I'd say you probably don't 'need' to get a N3DS right away, because I'm still yet to hear of any exclusive games other than Xenoblade.

But of course, I'm only saying that because I got 2 regular 3DS's from a garage sale for 2 bucks each :3

Haha if anyone got even the 2ds for that price they'd say anything to justify the new ones not being worth the price.

      You sir, are my hero

I know. What the hell!? I almost evacuated my entire body when I saw them. "Box of DS stuff, $20 bucks", I thought, "Aw yeah I'll get that, couple of DSi's and heaps of crappy cartoon-tie-in games, must be worth 20 bucks"

Nestled in the bottom of that box of 7 DS's, 9 chargers, heaps of accessories and over 30 DS games were two 3DS's, one with Mariokart 7 inside, the other with Mario 3DLand. Garage sales, ye be praised.

  • Big W/Target will most likely be the cheapest place. Thats where I will be heading.

  • I'm still conflicted as to which model to get!

I don't know if the XL is too big for use on a train etc but I do like the black.. and I do like the size of the New 3DS but would not a huge fan of a white console :/

    • I'm in the same boat! Keep swapping between the two mindsets of definitely wanting the bigger screen for gameplay, then I see a video like this and then really want the freedom to customise more and those lovely coloured buttons! Although I guess one solution to the vid for the n3DS XL would be to get a clear case and print your own designs :)

I think the best way to confirm is try before you buy, the screen size difference will probably be the deal breaker for me.

Speaking as the owner of a 3DS XL and an old NDSi, I'd just like to give my 2 cents size-wise

        1. I find the NDSi nicer to hold and play with (i don't have very big hands so maybe that's why), but the 3DS XL is a pain to try and walk around while clearing streetpasses lol… Your hands get really tired after a while cos of the weight and size.

        2. Although the 3DS XL has a massive screen size, take note that they don't increase the resolution of the XL's screen so you'll notice some obvious "pixelation", but if you don't really mind that, you'll get over it fairly quickly

        3. Watching stuff on larger screen is obviously awesomer, battery life on XL is better too (slightly)

        4. You probably can't carry the XL in your pockets… I can fit my NDSi in my pockets easily. But I've seen lots of people play with XLs on the train tho. As long as you have a bag or pouch to carry it around with.

Personally I'm considering getting the N3DS just for the awesome buttons and swappable face plates too

        • excellent reply, thank you!

Will go to EB now to claim mine hopefully I can compare them!

      • That's pretty cool!

I d love a bigger screen but if its a hassle carrying it in my pocket that may be a deal breaker!
