Recommended washing machine/fridge for 1 pax?

Hey guys,

I am currently renting an unfurnished apartment and would you guys recommend a place to buy washing machine/fridge (and specific brand/model) for 1 person to use? I will probably be using it for 3 years and be selling off :/

I've heard of gumtree but I only drive a small Mazda 2 and probably can't fit these appliances in too :/ How about any secondhand shop (is there any?) or first hand?

I'm in Melbourne - southeast; Notting Hill ;)

I wouldn't consider myself an appliance expert, but I'm pretty they don't make washing machine & Fridges in the one unit, you will probably need to buy them separately.

    • hahaha apologies! I was talking about buying a washing machine and a fridge :P

  • Where in Victoria so people can suggest a close store.
If its only for a few years just go with the cheapest, don't worry about brand, you may find a cheapie new item cheaper than second hand
You can also rent these items but unsure of the cost.

Ya, I thought of renting those appliances but nah, it's cheaper to buy the appliances instead! $15/week for a washing machine. $15*48 weeks * 3 = $2160. Even if the rental is $7.50/week, it would be $1080 for 3 years!

      • Wow. That much.

      • Yeah renting is absolutely mental!
It'd just about be cheaper to buy on credit card and only pay the minimum payment.

Look out for garage sale in your area. Wheel one home with a red trolley from Supercheap Auto.

  • EBay / Gumtree + location search. Are going for new or used?

  • Are you a Monash kid? Check out sellyourspace. Otherwise, got my washing machine front TGG for 520. Fridge was second hand, for 200.

You're going to ride the machines? Cos pax is travel agent abbreviation for passenger. :)

    • Pax can also refer to occupants or attendees (in say a hotel, an event, restaurant etc), it's a term that is used in both transportation and (more recently) the hospitality industry.

Yes, that's where it came from. But OP seems to use it as an abbrev for person. It could be just omitted from the title with no loss of clarity. Nobody's going to think it's for 1 pet.

          I'm a big 2pax fan

  • I'm a pax, but don't need a washing machine or fridge.

It is funny how language changes from the original meaning of the latin word for peace to being a shortened version of a "customer" of many types.

    Pax
