CPU Cooler for AMD FX8300

Just bought an AMD FX-8300 OEM without fan.

Any suggestions on best bang for buck cooler good for light to moderate overclocking? Lower $$$ best :-)

Existing case cooling is fair.

Thanks

Hyper 212 Evo. Tower based cooler. Very affordable, can be configured either as push or pull or push+pull configuration.

    • +1, I always recommend this cooler to all my friends. Great cooler.

Another option you might want to look at if you want something a little nicer is the Noctua NH-U12S, for around $30 more or so, you get a nicer Noctua fan, more silence and a nicer heatsink.

      • Are the advantages with the Noctua really around sound or does it have better overclocking performance?

    • Going in the other direction re price will the CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 EVO be noiser and less efficient? I guess its not worth saving $12 if the 212 evo is that much better particularly for some OC action.

      • I'd say if you're going to go for the TX3 EVO, then you might as well just stick with the stock cooler. The stock cooler isn't actually bad at all, unless you want it to be silent or you want to overclock, in which case, you shouldn't cheap out on $12.

To answer your question above, the main advantage with Noctua is noise, the NF-F12 is one of the quitest fans you'll be able to find. Better overclocking performance as well, but not much.

  • A bit more money but really good performance in a smaller form factor

    • I don't think this one will work with AM3+ ?

      • It will. Have a closer look at the PDF manual or spec sheets. It says it's compatible.

  • Definitely look at noctua. Great airflow volumes and as quiet as anything. High grade bearings too.

    You bought an FX. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA.

Noctua UH14-S if you must. I'd rather throw it out the window.
