Vaya Voicemail Deposit Fees Causing Bill Overspend

I've been continuously going over my monthly $650 usage with Vaya causing them to bar my entire account once I have gone $80 over.
A large amount of these charges are "Voicemail Deposit" fees, which are completely unexplained anywhere on their website or CIS/contract.
This month $251.25 of my fees are from "Voicemail Deposit" which is defiantly a large amount of my usage seeing as I've hardly made any calls.

What are my rights here? I'm spending way more than I should be each month due to what I consider unfair charges from Vaya.

Right column states Voicemail is 90c per minute

Sounds like people are leaving you a lot of voicemails and/or very long voicemails. Maybe pick up the phone more often? You can extend the ring time before it diverts to voicemail below:

don't let your calls go to voicemail?

    let it ring out

    • Kinda hard to do when you're asleep…

  • Do you need voicemail? Some telcos allow you to disable it.

  • Vaya lets you disable your voicemail if you don't need it.
RIghts? None I guess. It was disclosed before you joined them. Whether or not you read it was another thing, but it was there, so you dont have many avenues, aside from preventing it in the future

    edit - more info
You can use the Optus missed call service for free.
SMS "ON" to 159 to activate it.
SMS "OFF" to 159 to deactivate it.
You can also DIAL 159 to setup the missed call service.

    • Thanks for that info, even if it's not of use to me as I need voicemail for my work I'm sure it'll be of use to somebody else in the future.

It is honestly one of the most stupidest fees I've ever heard of and results in my credit being wasted so quickly.
I'll be switching to another carrier (Telechoice?) next month, it sucks seeing as I've been with Vaya for a fair while now.

      • well check the companies then as Telechoice says voicemail is 97c per minute + 40c connection fee. and if you use MMS that is not included in the cap, the cost of them is on top of the month charge.
        So more expensive than Vaya.

        • Isn't that a voicemail retrieval fee? I'm fine with that, it's just Vaya charge for when somebody leaves one…
