AmEx Member Referral Bonuses Are Back

Just want to let people know that the American Express Referral scheme (which has been out of operation for over 6 months) was reactivated by AMEX with basically no fanfare. To those new to AMEX, the referee gets a greater bonus points (for example, for the Platinum Edge it is 10k points for signing up through a referral link vs 5k points for signing up without a referral link) and the referrer gets a referral bonus (for example, 10k for the Platinum Edge).

If anyone is looking to sign up for a Platinum Edge or Platinum Charge Card I'd be grateful if you could use my referral links, see the AMEX Referral Link Wiki.

Thanks
Yapapi

  • How do you find your referral link? I can't see it anywhere

  • I've messaged it to you.

    • to clarify, I meant how do you retrieve your own referral link on the amex site? I already have an amex

I'm on the same boat, can't find my own referral link….

  • Can you please message me on how to get a referral link?

  • Was just about to give instructions only to find that the link for generating referral links has disappeared. Will investigate and see if I can find again.

    • The link has really disappeared - it was under the Rewards tab and also listed under More Products & Services at the bottom of the page but now gone?

      • Indeed, I got back to it through my browser history.

  • Quick question, can AMEX partner(Engineer Australia, CPA etc.) platinum edge card holders get the 10,000Pts bonus if refer a friend?
(I dont have a card, just deciding between signing up a partner AMEX card or a normal AMEX card)

Yes, the account management website is the same.

I believe so. Question then becomes whether the 25,000 extra points you'd get by signing up through CPA, Engineers etc is worth the $149 annual fee. Maybe, maybe not. If you decide not, one thing you could do is sign up for the non-Partner AMEX for the first year to take advantage of the no annual fee offer and then switch over to the partner card near the end of the first year.

Yes, I originally got referred into amex by a friend holding a EA gold ascent card.

    • I hold a Platinum Edge card that is associated with CA (Chartered Accountants), when I follow the instructions provided, the website loops around and the web address is "=invalid". I can't get a referral link anywhere. Could also be due to the fact that my rewards program is QANTAS Direct and not the AMEX Membership Rewards. Just food for thought.

  • FYI, all of the referral links are now broken and have been removed. Please add your new referral links back into the wiki

  • As Neil said, all the old links stopped working, AMEX appears to have tweaked the referral system. They are still hiding the refer a friend generation page, but I've found it… enjoy https://qwww316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.d…

    • The referral landing page works after generating the invite but the "apply now" link is dead. Try it on your referral link from the wiki.

      • Seems to work for me.

Have added my link to the wiki, thanks yapapi :)

      • Seems to be working now.

  • I applied for an Amex Platinum Edge card through a friend's referral link last week and phoned Amex today to check on the status . I did not receive an email confirmation only on screen. I was told by Amex staff that referral applications were currently not being accepted as this was released in error. They mentioned it should be available in the next month or so. Has anyone had their referral applications accepted recently?

No problems with the people I've referred so far as I'm aware.

    • ive got no issues with my referrals as well in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals

    • +1

just got off the phone with them, you need to call them and regenerate the link again.
mine's now working again in the wiki.

      Mod: Use wiki, not comments

      • Thanks, managed to get my link updated too.

      • So did they acknowledge referrals programme is back up and running? And who did you speak to, Card Services or Rewards team?

  • Just an FYI everyone, we received the following message from an employee of Amex in regards to the wiki page:

Regarding this site with this referral, It would be best to have it be known and added to this page that applications made through this page are not honored for the bonus points offered by american express. On the american express website the terms and conditions state This offer is only available to friends, family and colleagues with whom you have an existing relationship and who want to receive your referral via Social Media. You must not send Social Media referrals to people you do not know.

    • I realise this comment is super old.. but how does the comment look now? Is it holding true/being enforced?

      • Haven't heard any complaints from members nor anything from AMEX.

  • The website was having issues for me last night but I played around with it this morning and now my referral link is up and working as of today :)
